Activating the Razor Edit tool and other armed actions in REAPER 7 The REAPER Blog 2023-11-29 | In this stream clip I answer a question about activating the Razor edit tool with a shortcut instead of clicking in the main toolbar.The action is actually called "Mouse Modifiers: Toggle arrange view mouse modifiers override B".Armed actions run with every left-click. Hardware MIDI Sends the better way โ REAPER tutorial The REAPER Blog 2023-11-22 | When you have hardware MIDI devices like a synth or drum machine, there are a few ways to set it up to work with REAPER. From the routing window of a track you can create a send to a MIDI output. You can pick up the sound of the instrument from a record armed track with an audio input.One thing I don't like about this way is that hardware MIDI sends can't be bypassed/muted, only deleted.An alternative way to set it up is to use the ReaInsert plugin, sending only MIDI. Layered Loop Recording with Fixed Item Lanes - REAPER 7 The REAPER Blog 2023-11-04 | If you've used Fixed Item Lanes in REAPER 7 you've probably noticed the Layer New Lanes option. If you've tried it you might have noticed that as you Record new layers you don't hear previous layers, only on Playback.You just need to enable Monitoring for the track mediaRight-click Record arm, "Monitor track media when recording"Now you can hear each layer stacking as you record into new track lanes.But why is it different when loop recording into fixed-lanes?By default REAPER doesn't create new files while looping recording, only one file when you stop. Recording song sections with Fixed Item Lanes - REAPER 7 The REAPER Blog 2023-10-31 | The new track lanes feature is a fantastic alternative to recording into takes on items. If you didn't know, setting the track to Fixed item lanes is like being able to record or play different versions of a track, and gives you tools (comping) to easily cut up a composite version from multiple lanes. As you record new lanes are automatically added as needed.But there's a trick to using it to avoid lane switching previous sections as you record takes later in the project.It's actually so simple, just keep comping active as you record into new lanes in new sections of the project. I'm making this tutorial because I found this unintuitive at first. Parallel FX inside the fx chain in REAPER 7 #reaperdaw The REAPER Blog 2023-10-17 | This new REAPER 7 feature allows parallel fx within the fx chain.Just right-click any fx and choose "Run selected FX in parallel with previous FX". Meaning this fx now gets inputs from before the previous fx. Laptop users, 'simple mouse' users, etc. might not have 3 buttons, spare modifier-key fingers, muscle memory or cognitive capacity to remember everything assigned to your mouse modifiers.
