transient/void: 10 songs for the lonely traveler (ambient, emotional) samael 2022-08-15 | *DO NOT REPOST* This one’s for all my fellow solitary creatures out there …This is very different from the style of content I usually make, but this video has really been on my mind as of late so I figured I would make it anyway. So, here you have it: a 10 song playlist curated with the lonely traveler in mind. Believe it or not, I didn’t actually want to give this playlist a truly “sad” sound - rather, my focus here was to create a collection of music tied together by a central atmosphere of wistfulness, a sense of being solitary or lonely, and a feeling of passing through the world rather than actually living in it. Though the songs still vary a bit, I think that curating this playlist with this “atmosphere” in mind was very helpful in creating something that is generally cohesive regardless.The atmosphere of this playlist is modeled after the title track Ax Mr. L, which I listened to frequently on a long train raid across New York state. Ax Mr. L is one of many songs that have helped me process, articulate, and connect with different emotions, facets of myself, and even wants and desires for my future. In fact, I believe that songs like that are a huge part of the reason why I spend so much time consuming music (other than the fact that it’s simply an enjoyable activity). I graduated high school on Saturday, so I thought it was just about time to post this - this is the evolution of my art style over four years, from the beginning of freshman year to the very end of senior year (including summers inbetween). Of course I wasn’t able to fit every single drawing I’ve done in that time in here, but I think this does a pretty good job of showing how I’ve developed. This is despite the fact that over half of this video is taken up by art I did while a junior/senior, because that was when I started taking art very seriously as a potential career option, and began drawing as much as physically possible lolAnyway, it’s been a crazy four years.
