Paramount in 4 Bit Color, in Full 8K Resolution (See Description) Kyoobur9000 2024-06-05 | Yesterday I hypothesized that 4-bit color wouldn't be easy to see if I applied it at a high resolution, so I got to work actually testing it and it turns out I was right! This time I applied it AFTER scaling up the logo to 8K rather than before, and it ended up basically looking no different from the original at most resolutions. The color reduction definitely did actually happen - I can see the dithering if I set the resolution to 4K and I view the video in the normal-sized player - but it gets blended in otherwise.Note, that just means the color resolution reduction is doing its job properly! Any process that reduces the color resolution of an image of video tends to employ dithering, where instead of simply rounding the input color to the nearest valid output color, patterns of multiple colors are used to simulate the input color over an area. In the previous video this manifested as a pixelated, "beady" look. For this video, that effect won't be visible in its full glory unless it's viewed on an 8K monitor. I was already familiar with multiplication of video (just the pixel values multiplied) but it's also possible to multiply AUDIO, with the output being a sequential multiplication of each sample value. But, the output is way too quiet, so I had to do some work-up in Audacity. As for the video, I tried applying histogram equalization and... it turned green. But hey, I would too if I put on a mask. FFMPEG Jam Session: Filters Kyoobur9000 2024-04-12 | I recently found out that FFMPEG, the program I've been using to video conversions, also has filters included which act surprisingly like effects in Kdenlive and Vegas. They seem to be very powerful and configurable, if hard to use, since they are configured entirely through text. If I can master using FFMPEG, not only will I have more fun effects at my disposal but I also can render videos remotely on other computers and easily save effects to apply to other videos. This particular video is just me messing around, primarily with color and audio effects.
