Batikan Iscan
Arrival of the Hero | Batikan Iscan (Synthesia)

I must admit this was the fastest video I prepared, from start to finish (between recording and publishing, I'm assuming there's been not even two hours...) regardless, I hope you enjoy it! With the beautiful weather here, it's been so relieving to be able to go out and walk wherever. I try to go outside at least once a day. Being able to move a bit every day makes me feel better! Tell me in the comments how you feel better in the fall season with the shortening days!
After recently getting back into playing my keyboard, I have recorded an improv finally! I call this one Regrowth because it is once again that time of the year where it starts getting a little chilly and windy and summer is no longer dominant. This improv is a little bit chaotic and unorganized but I think this adds to its charm. Beware if you read this before finishing the video, despite my best attempts to isolate the audio from my recording, Windows computer noises managed to contaminate the audio in the last 10-15 seconds of this piece, which has left me a little infuriated. I hope you manage to enjoy the rest of this improv regardless, this is just a heads-up.
A little fun fact about this improv. In the batch of improvs I recorded (which have all been recorded the same day, in two sittings separated by 45 minutes), this one is the first one. I consider this one as the icebreaker between my piano and I that day. Steady Steps shares a similar vibe and some musical ideas with this one... I'm tempted to assume that it is not a coincidence. I hope you enjoy this one regardless, and look forward to future improvs I may record sooner or later!

Playing hammering chords and floating melodies is something that I was missing from my life up until this recording. I thoroughly enjoyed playing this improv for you, even if I had to trade off structural and harmonic complexity for in-the-moment endurance and stamina to actually play this improv like I wanted it to sound. I'm considering using this improv and the musical ideas within it to write my next piano composition. More on that when I return home and am reunited with my piano.

For these improvs, I usually set a timer of 5 minutes to guide me. I no longer pressure myself to play until it rings. For this one specifically, I remember it ringing on my wrist for a little bit before I stopped it and kept playing. It is with joy that I present this longer improv to you. I dedicate it to my girlfriend for her birthday.

I remember when I was playing this improv, I played the same motif back and forth in different registers, as if they were a call and response. The Wikipedia page for "Call and response" says: In music, call and response is a compositional technique, often a succession of two distinct phrases that works like a conversation in music. Now, saying the same thing back and forth isn't exactly compelling conversation, but still!!

It's been a while, it is good to see you back again. Welcome to the unofficial Season 2 of the beloved "Weekly Improv" series. I can finally confidently say that the sound quality of my recordings can be good enough to post again (sorry about the wait, it took a minute to find the source of the problem).
I won't guarantee that these will pop up every single week. There might be a week, a couple days or a couple weeks between them. And they won't be labeled by numbers either, I will try to name them based on the mood. I don't want to imply a specific order of listening for these after all.
Some of you might have noticed that I have seriously cut back on the "noise" in the videos. There is no more intro/outro music (but there is a new animation, I hope you guys like that!). I simply didn't like how it looked, I wanted a clean listener experience!
With that out of the way, I hope to make this the best content for you all so if you have taken the time to read this description box, please tell me what you think of this new format (also thank you!!). Like it? Hate it? Why? I'm seeking to tweak things and improve them always! Thank you!
β¨Happy birthday Rasmus, you're the best. β¨
β¨Special shoutout to Charlie Stavar once again for helping me elevate this piece.

For this year, I wanted to avoid doing a simple compilation of all the pieces I made this year. It seemed redundant to me, because you can access all of the original videos, they're still there. Thus, this year, I've decided to combine an improv with some of the themes in my music; it felt more authentic to me.
This year has seen some pretty spectacular events, the little testing phase of YouTube Shorts, the end of Season 1 of the beloved Weekly Improv series which lasted a whooping 100 episodes, some of my best orchestral work (Dawn's Embrace). I want to take the time to thank all of you sincerely for being with me on this adventure, watching my videos, commenting recommendations and giving me inspiration and motivation to keep going. I want to focus this year on producing new and exciting pieces and nice improvs!
A special thank you to Charlie Stavar for helping me with Dawn's Embrace and Facing the Tempest. His contributions have helped me grow as a musician and composer and I've learned a lot.

If you close your eyes, you can expect to discover a gentle and innocent beginning, followed by tender melancholy and finally a bright golden finale.
