It was Developed by Atelier Double, and Published by Toho. The English fan-translation was released in 2000 by Dynamic Designs. It's a game based on the Manga and later anime series of the same name, Ranma 1/2.STORY: 12/20When a strange man accidently breaks as tatue at an ancient temple he releases a demon unto the world. The appearence of the demon calls for a cult known as 'The Red Cat Gang' who goes on a crime spree, kidnapping the strongest people of the country. These captives will be brainwashed into serving a ghostly figure to bring forth it's resurrection unless Ranma and his/her friends can stop it.SOUND: 14/20The game's sound effects are okay, but they are nothing special, it's all the bells and whistles you'd expect from a Jrpg from this era. The OST is not bad but I foudn that some of the tracks get old quite quick which resulted in me using my own music. The OST also does a good job with the game's setting, drawing on cultural musical genres.GRAPHICS: 12/20The game's graphics are okay, they are certianly not the best i've seen for the console but defintely not the worse. You can easily tell who's who from the Manga/Anime in the game, and the character models are quite nicely drawn. The let down for me is how low quality for the town looks, it kinda reminds me of the old RTS games that you'd see on PCs from the 1980's. Attacks, skills, and such are not that great in the way they look or animation wise so that was another letdown for me too.GAMEPLAY: 10/20Again, this game plays like the traditional Jrpg from this era, explore areas, loot treasures, talk to NPCs, defeat monsters and bosses and then move on. There's not really much for this game to make it stand out from others that are far superior games. The game is easy enough to pick up and play but it's hard to know exactly what each skill, item, magic and such does unless you are using a guide, some type of descirptions would have been nice for them but well, they weren't in the original version so they wouldn't be in this one either. The game itself is quite small in my opinion, I wish it was longer but it's actually not so that's a bummer. The game has no additional features than that of a traditional Rpg so don't expect much in the way of say things like crafting,. or side dungeons, or going off the beaten path for extra exploration type stuff. OH! I must not forget about how slow you move, I couldn't figure out how to run or move faster so assume there is no such function for faster movement.TRANSLATION: 18/20This is where the game actually shines for me, 1. because the game never got a release outside of Japan in English (other than this fan translation) and 2. the writing does a good job of capturing the feel and essence of the Anime characters and their individual personalities. Playing right through the game a good few years ago and what I can remember I did not encounter any issues with the translation or any technical issues for the translation, Dynamic Designs did a great job on this one again. I do recall thoguh there being issues with certain emulators running this patch for a while and I assume now that those have also been fixed since then as they did update their patch.Is the translation of the story perfect, well.. i'd say no but thats due to cultural differences in jokes and stuff that westerners just wouldn't get, you knoww hat I mean if you've watched the animes. so libverties were taken in translation but that does not mean it's a bad translation, just means it';s not a word for word translation.OVER ALL: 66/100It's an okay game, any fan of the Anime and Manga would feel right at home playing this now. So, would I recommend it now..? Yeah, probably especially to Ranma fans who like Jrpgs.-------------------------------------------------------------------------Have you played this game? Light Fantasy (1992, SNES/SFC English Gameplay 2023) SEG - Sylar Explores Gaming 2023-07-10 | Light Fantasy is a Tactical RPG game for the Super NIntendo/Famicom. It was release in 1992, Developed by Advanced Communication Company, and Published by Tonkin House. The game was never released outside of Japan, this English translated version was completed and released in 2023 by Zarby89.STORY: 8/20Evil masters of darkness are invading the world and it's left to a single boy and his band of merry men to save the world and the missing Princess and once again bring the world the light of the Goddess.GRAPHICS: 10/20Okay, the graphics are a bit of a sore point, they are very reminiscent of the NES Dragon Quest graphics but a bit more colorful, which is surprising for a SNES/SFC game in 1992. Spells don't look that great, characters kinda remind me a mix of Mystic Quest and Dragon Quest, which I liked. Towns are very plain and very basic looking,. The World Map is quite highly decorated in terms of graphically and it looks real nice the further you travel.SOUND: 16/20This games sound effects are okay, nothing to rave about but they are present and very clearly do what their intended use is. I didn't get confused by any sound effect or left wondering what the heck I just heard so that's a bonus. The game's music is really light, fun, and hearty, with each track doing well in it's intended place. I didn't want to turn the music off so that's a pretty good thing for a game made in 1992, so I really liked the OST. All together, it's not a bad category for Light Fantasy, very charming sounds and tracks but you can certainly tell it's age.GAMEPLAY: 12/20So, this is a pretty standard Dragon Quest clone in terms of functionality of menus, talking, etc. You can recruit your party from a TON of different NPCs around the world, that is entirely unique for a SNES/SFC game of the time, or at least I can't think of any that uses that mechanic and have so many party members to choose from. You can mix and match spells to characters that can use magic giving you the freedom to create your party the way YOU want to, but it seems they won#.t use spells if you Auto Battle. Battles are done on a single screen where they take turns in a tactical/strategy style. There's a World Map to roam around and find dungeons, caves, etc to explore. The game's difficulty is quite high, you can easily venture into a part of the map that has tough monsters that will wipe you in 1 hit so it's quite a grindy game also too counter that difficulty, forcing you to grind levels.For those of you who like the grind and dont mind older graphics then you'll feel right at home playing this game, is it fun though..? Not as much!TRANSLATION: 10/20Oh man, where do I start..? Okay, yes the game is 100% playable but it's by far not 100% translated, as you can see in the video above, text left untranslated, some weird secret menu I dont know how I unlocked had sections untranslated, poor story text translations and more. People are getting lazy and relying MORE on AI, ChatGPT, and such for help in translating and as it stands it's still really bad at doing it. The translator says they've gone through it manually also but obviously English is not their first language 'cos a lot of it just don't make sense and flows badly. Whilst I appreciate the attempt on the translation and another SNES RPG to play, I really wish people would stop releasing half-baked crappy transaltions in hopes someone will then translate it properly.. 'cos 9 times out of 10 no one will once it has an English patch released.I really hope someone will pick up this script and go through it properly and give it a real translation that it deserves.OVER ALL: 56/100It's not a bad game, it's just tough and requires a lot of grinding. It's a shame the translation isn't 100% and a REAL worthy translation 'cos all these people using Google, Chat GPT, and other AI are just down-right lazy and are ruining the fun for those who actively translate things properly in the hacking community. DO I recommend this game..? ONLY if you HAVE to play it, otherwise i'd stay clear of it until someone comes along and gives it a much better translation 'cos this is not good and an isult to the game, the original developers and publisher.-------------------------------------------------------------------------Have you played this game? It was Developed and Published by Angel, and released in Japan on 22nd September 1995. The Fan-Translation was first released by Bishoujo Senshi Translations in 1999. NOTE: This game is set between the 3rd and 4th seasons of the anime and thus cannon to the series.STORY: 16/20A sorceress named Apsu arrives from the 30th century. She has formed a group from Crystal Tokyo and orders them to alter the past in order to change the future to her liking, with the goal to obtain the Silver Crystal. Apsu and her followers succeed in changing the fates of defeated villains bringing them all back to life and turning reformed and healed people back to the evil side. With advice from the ghosts of the Four Kings of Heaven, Sailor Moon and the rest of the girls must set out to regain the Rose Crystal, and the Golden Crystal in order to change Sailor Moon's destiny back and to save Crystal Tokyo.SOUND: 18/20The music ain't bad, there's a few tracks I recognize and a few new ones, all nicely composed and a pleasent to listen to as you play. There's quite a few sound effects and a few voice-overs used for certain skills, so that's a nice touch also. Some voice-overs I have noticed sound a little garbled in places, i'm not sure if that's due to SNES/SFC limitations or what..? but it's noticeable. Over all though, there's not really much to complain about on this category unless you have a short ear-span and want to listen to your own music whilst you play.GRAPHICS: 18/20Graphically, I liked what I seen but if I was to be REAL picky.. then i'd say the out-of-combat sprites for the girls look slightly less detailed than they do in battle as where the enemy battlers and out of battle sprites for them look fine, you'd think the developers would have paid more attention to the stars of the game but nope! The towns, houses, rooms, battle screen are all very detailed and look lived in and cluttered which is nice to see. The train station's bullet train is great, that looks really cool but as with a few other things during hte game.. the angle looks a bit off compared to it's surroundings.GAMEPLAY: 16/20SO there's not really much to do in the game, get from point A to B, read the usually text heavy story dialogue, defeat the bad guy and move on. There's not much exploring to be done either as there's not much chests to find and there's NO secrets or anything like that to discover. You get to play as all the girls from the Anime which is nice, and they all have their own skills, uses, attacks, and even voice sounds. The game CAN be a little grindy for the most part so for thsoe who don't like grindy rpg games then I fear this might be a bit of a hit for you. Your skills use crystal points (CP) which you get more as you level over time and they replenish after battle too, these are used to cast skills, spells, and such but can also be renewed through the use of items. This CP system can make some battles a bit of a challenge when you need to manage your CP and use items to replenish them during battles, making some boss battles challenging. The game itself really aint that hard, it's just grindy in most parts and baarely presents a challenge short of managing the CP in battles. There's also a cool system where you can do joint character attacks too but some are such a pain to set u p and get working it seems hardly worth the trouble.TRANSLATION: 18/20Whilst the translation for the story is pretty great it is rather long winded, so expect a lot of reading during the playable bits. I didnt spot much in the way of anything untranslated but there were a few minor graphical issues, this could be due to the way I was playing the game. I know a few emulators has issues running this game perfectly still so there's that problem with those of you whoe are going to try this out using emulators. That said, the translation over all is a nice piece of work by Bishoujo Senshi Translations.OVER ALL: 86/100It's really not a bad game, JRPG fans and Sailor Moon fans will love this game, but others might not enjoy it due to the amount of grind present. Would I recommend this game today? Yeah! Why not..? It's a decent RPG for the system with a few minor flaws but it's cute, and who can't resist to play a game full of your favourite Sailors..
