TubeShooterMagA review of Rode's NTG-4+ shotgun microphone (same sound as the NTG4 but adds a lithium battery). Includes various tests - vocals, nature, phantom power, battery power, low pass, high boost, comparison with NTG2 and Sennheiser ME66/K6.
Please ensure you watch (listen) to this video on a decent device. Phones and tablets have terrible speakers so you won't hear it properly. Most laptop speakers are a bit rubbish too. We suggest some good quality, neutral headphones would be best.

Web: tubeshooter.co.uk Twitter: twitter.com/tubeshootermag Instagram: instagram.com/tubeshootermagReview: Sprolink NeoLIVE R2 HDMI video switcher / mixerTubeShooterMag2022-07-01 | This is my overview and review of the Sprolink NeoLIVE R2 video switcher and mixer, which takes 4 HDMI inputs as sources and enables you to switch and mix them to a single output including audio and chromakey, typically used for live streaming, gaming, stage presentations and so on.
The unit was supplied as a loan and has been returned after evaluation. No payment was made for me to produce this video, the opinions are my own honest thoughts.
Note that my own pieces to camera were chromakeyed during editing; the NeoLIVE's own chromakeying was demonstrated at a specific point in the video.
Twitter: twitter.com/tubeshootermag Instagram: instagram.com/tubeshootermagReview: IK Multimedia iRig Pre 2 audio interfaceTubeShooterMag2021-03-10 | This is my overview and review of the IK Multimedia iRig Pre 2, the updated version of their iRig Pre preamplifier. It provides a single mono balanced XLR input to an unbalanced 3.5mm TRRS (and TRS) jack for connecting balanced professional microphones to devices such as older iPhones & iPads, camcorders, DSLRs and mirrorless cameras.
Newer iPhones/iPads without a headphone jack need the Apple headphone to Lightning connector.
At time of uploading, I cannot find the product on Amazon, only the original version. But see ikmultimedia.com/products/irigpre2 in the meantime.

I put it through its paces.
Note: although I was sent the light for free, Falcon Eyes had no editorial input or control into the review and they did not pay me to produce this.
#Tech #Lighting #FilmingOn-camera mics: Rode VideoMicro vs Joby Wavo Mobile vs Deity D4 Duo vs MCOPlus VM-D02TubeShooterMag2020-12-19 | This is an entirely unscientific comparison of tiny micro shotgun microphones for camcorders and the like. Featuring the Rode VideoMicro, the Joby Wavo Mobile, the Deity D4 Duo and the MCOPlus VM-D02.
This is a look at and test of two compact cardioid microphones from Chinese brand MCOplus. One is designed for camcorders / phones (choosing the appropriate 3.5mm cable for that purpose) and the other plugs directly into phones that have a suitable TRRS jack.
The obvious comparison is with the popular Rode VideoMicro so I did some audio samples of them both.
Note: subsequent to the review, the mic holder snapped after light use, so I can’t recommend it although I still do like the concept very much.

I bought the units (two!) with my own money and was not paid to do this review by anyone but I do genuinely love these little gadgets, they're incredibly useful.

DR-10X (XLR version) amzn.to/2IKXJbdReview: Aputure Deity shotgun microphone; including durability test (shock, water etc)TubeShooterMag2017-01-08 | We review Aputure's Deity microphone, a $369 USD shotgun they're pitching in the same league as Sennheiser's MKH-60 and 416, or the Schoeps CMC641. Aputure say this is an "extremely durable" mic so we drop it, drown it and bash it around. Does it survive? Watch the video to find out.

This comprises a transmitter which plugs directly onto the XLR socket on the bottom of the mic, and a receiver which plugs into your camcorder. This is our review.

This will be useful for audio note-taking, journalism, film making, vlogging and so on.

It comes with a cold shoe mounting clamp which can also work as a screw thread mount. Two gel filters provide the ability to alter the colour temperature and a compact padded bag with two compartments is also supplied to keep it in.
We very much like this light; it's very useful for vlogging as well as handheld lighting in tight spaces - and it's not at all expensive.

Kindly note: although this is sold as a gaming laptop, we are *not* gamers so this review contains nothing about the laptop's gaming abilities!

It's a "run and gun" 4K camcorder with a micro 4/3rds sensor but a fixed (13x) lens. So it's a sort of ENG camcorder for 4K.
It does also feature V-Log and CineLike gamma profiles though, so coupled with the sensor you can get quite cinematic with it.
We had about half an hour to go out on the streets and test it out, so it's a bit of an overview rather than a full review but we hope to get our hands on the final unit for a few days soon.

We asked him about how they make their Softies and why the new Super Softie paradoxically doesn't seem to stop the sound of the wind. Plus we chatted about their hi-tech manufacturing and why being local is so important. Most critically, we met Max - the company dog.

It's a camera-top shotgun microphone for DSLRs and camcorders, designed to capture ambient sound and (closely-shot) vocal audio / speech.
We test the mic and compare against the Rode Videomic Pro and Videomic GO.

The XF200 (and XF205) are successors to Canon's highly successful XF100 & XF105 camcorders but now feature a 20x zoom, 3 lens control rings, WiFi and the dual codec recording mentioned above.
In the video, I compare its quality to that of a standalone XLR-USB adapter, Shure's X2U, using a Sennheiser ME66 shotgun mic (together worth about £450 versus the Rode at £130).

Published by www.tubeshooter.co.uk www.twitter.com/tubeshootermag www.facebook.com/tubeshootermagWhy connecting pro XLR mics to camcorders / DSLRs isnt as straightforward as you might think.TubeShooterMag2014-03-22 | Connecting professional XLR microphones to consumer level camcorders or DSLR cameras is fraught with potential problems. Many people seem to assume they can just wire an XLR to 3.5mm jack plug and all should be well - but it won't! In this video, I briefly explain why and how to properly connect the two.
PLEASE NOTE: I do not have a list of all the cameras that the mic works with. If your camera or camcorder provides "plug in power" then the mic should work. If you are unsure, then it's best to check with Rode directly as they are more likely to have a list of compatible cameras and camcorders.
