Altair StealthMany of us in the community have long been realising how much modders are carrying the consistent enjoyment and excitement that we can feel for these older games, especially in the face of a changing and diluting modern formula. I stumbled across a mod so wonderful it's almost ironic it came out just before Assassin's Creed Shadows, especially because of the strange perfection with which it fits into any game in the Kenway saga. The Japanese assassin experience is one that has been wanted by fans for a long, long time. And it's funny to see how close to that perfect experience you get once you swap a single character model out. AC Rogue, for example, lets you use the rope dart, have katanas, uses incredible sword fighting animations to make you feel like a deadly fighter, let's you have throwing knives, sleep darts, berserk darts, incredible parkour, and of course...the hidden blade.
It's kind of astonishing to see how much of the perfect or ideal formula for a Japanese game can be found in a decade-old game. I recommend all of you try this beautiful mod out, made by BAYKIEV, and enjoy Assassin's Creed Rogue (and now AC 4 as well) in a completely new, immersive light.

I say this not because this game has surprised me with what it has delivered, nor to the approach it has taken to the Assassin's Creed universe -- this is still a Ubisoft Quebec game, and they still hold their philosophy loud and proud for all to see in this game. I've felt surprised by this game because this is the first time a Ubisoft Quebec game has felt truly authentic to AC, and fun to play following the assassin ideals despite their design philosophy. There is so much in this game that does not interest me, appeal to me or outright upsets me. The script and tone as ever is most jarring here, followed by the bloated mission structure focused on maximising play time more than enjoyment.
However, this video I made encapsulates perfectly why I still like Assassin's Creed Shadows, why I have found a perfect conduit for my assassin desires with Naoe, and how creativity is allowed in this game when it comes to stealth in a way that it hasn't in a while.

I'm overall pretty impressed with the stealth and believe it is a system that has a lot of depth that we will all slowly discover once the game is released. Naoe feels fast, deadly, fragile and exactly how you would want an assassin to feel.
Bear in mind, I could only do this for a couple of hours, and most of my time was spent doing missions, watching cutscenes and testing other things in the game, so this stealth gameplay is unrefined. Most of these clips are me on a first or at most second attempt at a routine, so you'll have to forgive me for the lower quality.
This is mostly just a first glance into what stealth looks like in ac shadows, how the guards behave, the speed, tempo and look of the animations, and how many options we have when it comes to practising stealth and being a badass assassin.
Thank you to all of you for your support and your patience while I've been away from this channel, but I am looking to make many more videos now that ac shadows will be out.

Ever since I saw that footage of assassin's creed 3 before it went into the beta, with this kind of proto version of Connor, using a white and red outfit in a snowy backdrop, I wished it could exist in the game.
Once again thanks to modders, this outfit is (somewhat) available, and I took the chance to record a stealth video for a game that I admittedly don't play often enough. Since Assassin's Creed Shadows has been delayed, and my end-of-year plans for this channel have been foiled, I thought it would be a decent idea to make videos for games I don't usually post or play as much as Unity.
I wanted to start with Connor because I think few people think of how cool you can actually be in this game once you leverage all the mechanics - Recruits, rope darts, the bow, and whistling, are all amazing mechanics that once combined really give you a great feeling when playing.

Since the game's release, this has undoubtedly been the most replayed mission, not just in the entire game but, in my opinion, the entire franchise. You will find literally hundreds of videos of people completing this mission in a million different ways. It has become the poster child of Assassin’s Creed missions and is often held up as the gold standard of what fans want from the highly sought-after black box missions.
These missions allow you, the player, the freedom to complete them however you choose, exploring your environment to discover opportunities on your own and executing the mission in any style you prefer.
All of the missions in Assassin’s Creed Unity were designed with this approach in mind. So why is this particular mission the one everyone talks about?
Well, there are a few obvious reasons. For one, it begins with a breathtaking view of the Notre Dame Cathedral—arguably the most impressive 3D recreation in gaming, in my opinion. Being able to carry out an assassination within one of the world's most famous buildings, designed so meticulously inside and out that you feel as though you're truly there, is reason enough to want to replay it over and over.
But it's not just that. The fact that this mission occurs early in the game certainly helps, as earlier missions tend to have a higher replay rate compared to those toward the end, simply because fewer players finish games.
However, I believe there are more reasons why this mission remains memorable, even a decade later. Its design is practically perfect. It achieves everything a black box mission is meant to, and does so flawlessly.
The mission starts by placing us in a location where we’re given incomplete, yet meaningful, information. We know that two guards possess stolen keys, which we can infer will help us unlock a door and gain access to the building. We spot a contact who is supposed to meet with our target, someone we could silently eliminate and take their place.
Multiple entry points are available, each encouraging us to engage with the core gameplay mechanics—each providing a different way to fuel the assassin fantasy.
We can either steal the keys through social stealth by pickpocketing a guard, use our parkour skills to reach windows and doors that require lock-picking, or employ stealth to eliminate key guards without raising suspicion. But the level doesn't stop there.
For me, a great stealth level isn’t necessarily the hardest or the longest, but one that offers as much replayability as it does immersion.
You can play this mission repeatedly and always come up with a different story, all while exercising your imagination and problem-solving skills against the most beautiful backdrop imaginable.
If every mission in AC Unity were like this one, the game would be held in much higher regard.

I missed making just a good old AC stealth video, where i do everything an Assassin would do, particularly Altair, and then dip. AC Unity has a way of immersing me in this world that is really difficult to describe once the moment has passed. I really am transported to a different world. I also love ACU fixes for allowing me to experience the game in a whole new way, doing missions at different times of day, and doing stealth kills I never could have otherwise done.
This video is more of a love letter to my younger self than anything else. It's a video I would send to the kid who would stay up in bed watching and rewatching the "Altair was here trailer". To me, this video is the recreation of that trailer. This video says hey kid, look what you'll be able to DO in the future. Among these discussions, a common critique compares Mirage unfavorably to Assassin's Creed Unity, suggesting that Mirage falls short in aspects like gameplay, graphics, and overall quality. This sentiment, however, seems misplaced. Unity, despite its lauded art direction, remains a game marred by glitches and unfulfilled potential, far from the polished experience some portray it to be. In contrast, Mirage, built on the Valhalla engine, never aimed to replicate Unity but rather to draw inspiration from its design and world-building. It introduces improved stealth mechanics and parkour, though still within the constraints of a more streamlined game. Comparing Mirage to Unity overlooks the distinct ambitions and achievements of each game, neglecting the fact that Mirage offers a complete and engaging experience on its own terms.
Critics often use Unity as a benchmark for Assassin's Creed games, yet this comparison is flawed. Unity's gameplay, idealized by some fans, doesn't reflect the actual experience, which can be frustrating due to its bugs and design flaws. Mirage, designed with a different engine and philosophy, shouldn't be dismissed for not mimicking Unity's unrealized ideals. It succeeds in delivering a solid Assassin's Creed experience, emphasizing stealth and the assassin fantasy within a new context. Arguing that Mirage is inferior because it doesn't emulate Unity ignores the unique qualities and improvements Mirage brings to the franchise. As players, it's crucial to adjust expectations and appreciate each game for what it is, rather than what it isn't, recognizing that Unity's perceived excellence is more nostalgia than reality. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CHANNEL DISCORD: discord.gg/HMhPc4GrF9

This mod that bears the same name, overhauls basically everything about the game: Evie is removed and replaced with a disguise for Jacob, the images and text are modified to fit the new story with only one protagonist, the weather is made bleak and dark, and Jacob is given the original ac victory outfit with the red and black dye. This mod also changes the music, which I think is the single greatest addition to the game and the best part about the mod - the reason why I hope becomes clear as I explain my thought process behind selecting this mission to showcase the mod.
The mod isn't finished, and its presence can be felt in the earlier game much more than in the late game. However, I still chose to do this mission titled "Final Act", for a very specific reason. I believe this mod makes the entire game feel much more like this mission, which is perfect. Assassin's Creed Syndicate for the most part is a wacky and goofy game that generally wastes the beautiful morbidity of the industrial revolution in exchange for a whimsical will wonka-esque adventure. The two exceptions to this tonal travesty are sequence 1, in which the opening missions for Jacob and Evie are dark, serious stealth missions that perfectly ambient your surroundings for you to feel like an industrial-era assassin, and sequence 8, in which you feel the dark and theatrical twist and turns that the story should have progressed into in Assassin's Creed Victory. When I play this mission, it feels like some twisted version of Phantom of the Opera, with the dark red, black and orange tones that overwhelm your senses as the music swells up in reaction to your culling down of NPCs. It feels like such a dark, operatic climax that should have come after countless missions weaving the bridge in between the initial missions, that reflected the sutty, dark, mechanical exterior of the Industrial Revolution, and then led into the macabre, depraved and dramatic interior of the power structures that lead it.
The new music in the mod, as well as the weather, outfit, and new characters, all weave this bridge much better in my opinion, and this perfect industrial era Assassin's Creed game, with serious tones and dramatic strokes of madness, can be made out from the frail strips of decor this mod adds to a disappointing game.

After Valhalla's ultimate disappointment and a long hiatus from AC content, the fans were blessed with a rugged but soulful assassin's creed game that was fun, short, and ac-centric. Stealth as a playstyle has taken the limelight this year, taking its rightful place as the main way to play AC, thanks to both AC Mirage and AC Nexus.
I don't think this means that Assassin's Creed is in for a comeback, or that the days of dialogue choices and endless content are over. in fact, I know they are not. However, seeing Ubisoft give the fans something they've been wanting, and seeing the fans so openly and passionately praising the development studio for all the thoughtful work they have put in makes me feel very hopeful the right signals have been sent to the mother ship: People want assassin's.
I'm hoping that, while we will be getting a pretty heavy inflow of Assassin's Creed content over the next half-decade, the track record of quality ACs goes from 2 to 3, to 4, etc... until we can confidently say Ubisoft understand and respects the franchise again. AC Red is a game many are very nervous about, including myself, but I think there is enough reason to be at least cautiously optimistic that this could be an RPG that still feels like an Assassin's Creed game and takes the IP seriously.
Until then, I made a collection of my best kills from the year, pulling from almost all of the Assassin's Creed games. This year has again been very successful for the channel and I only have you to thank. I hope 2024 is even better.

When I played the game I could feel the love these devs had for the franchise. Everything about the game (that was in their control), was perfectly tailored to satisfy the cravings of a fan that had been starved and fed breadcrumbs over the better part of the last decade. I was happy to see that I could actually play as an assassin AND do assassin things all in one game (I know, revolutionary).
I was already convinced that Ubisoft Bordeaux understood me. They understood what I wanted, and more importantly WHY I wanted it. It's a studio that doesn't need us to explain why assassins are cool, why stealth is a great playstyle, or why the visual aesthetics of a brotherhood assassin are so fun to play with and look at. But with this update that everyone's been going crazy over, I finally get why they understood me. They are also fans of AC.
There are some pretty standard but lovely additions here like a new game plus that was much needed for a game like Mirage. Playing through early missions with all your gear to experience the story again is an absolute joy to the soul. But what has really impacted me is the fact that the devs listened to feedback about back ejects and side ejects...and improved them. For Ubisoft to even acknowledge that there is such a thing as side and back ejects is impressive in itself. For them to listen to the fans and directly improve it is an act of god. Or in this case, an act of Bordeaux, which until the foreseeable future when my hype dies down, is god as far as I'm concerned. It's crazy we're getting this kind of thing in 2023 when many of us had long abandoned hope that a studio would care about niche assassin's creed things. but here we are
I am also amazed that they will be adding permadeath mode, which is something that every AC has always needed. This further highlights the point I've made here, but I'll go on a separate rant for that in January.
Hope you enjoy this stealth video of an early mission that I loved playing my first time, that I got to enjoy with a maxed-out assassin. oh, and the Bayek outfit is top 3 outfits in the game, so happy I get to have this eye candy here now too.

The beautiful thing about history is how long and varied it is, and how many stories there are to tell at any given time, in any given place. I hold a particular affection for the modern Assassin's Creed eras, something that I know a lot of people don't share. But there is a certain atmosphere and feel that I get from Modern AC settings that I just don't get from the ancient or Middle Ages games. Particularly, The helix episodes in Unity, where we travel to La Belle Epoque, and WW2, The moments in Syndicate when characters aren't talking and the weather is dreary, and the WW1 section. All these little glimpses into what a modern AC would look like are a really fun pastime for me as a fan.
A lot of people have mentioned my custom channel outfit by Kinimod looks very modern, maybe a little too modern for revolutionary Paris. So I thought we would travel a century into the future to match the world to the outfit. Here Arno runs around exploring this area of Unity in a way we haven't been able to do before. For me, this is sort of a demo for a game that would be called Assassin's Creed: 1889. This has been one of my favourite videos to make, not because it has any incredible stealth kills, because it doesn't, but because of the feeling that playing and recording this evoked. Even watching it back, I have such an unsettling yet comforting feeling watching Arno run around these gorgeous but deserted city streets, with the amazing and tense music in the background. It's also so fun and beautiful to play through these sections without a timer or a bunch of glitches going on, to just enjoy the beautiful maps the developers created for just a handful of missions.
I don't know why, this area felt somewhat haunted to me. Like this was a dream or an incomplete memory. The missing NPCs just generated this unsettling feeling that I loved sinking myself into when running around. It felt like some sort of Bioshock-esque vibe, where a character runs around this Parisian, modern world while knowing that something isn't quite right. And that is a feeling that I loved having in AC. I hope the guy who made this makes the same for WW2 and Medieval sections as well.

I don't think Altair and Loki would vibe at all. However, a lot of the character development Basim went through reminded me a lot of Altair's own story in AC 1. To me, their arc went through a very similar trajectory, with tragically different endings. And I love it.
Basim, Like Altair after him, found himself being a talented and slightly arrogant individual who was humbled by a stern mentor who taught them the philosophy of the creed while committing its biggest contradiction: Both Al Mualim and Roshan preach the ideology of free will, but reprimand their respective students when they ask questions about the truth of their own reality and practice freedom of thought.
In AC Mirage, Basim sees himself getting told by his targets that not all is as it seems, and there is a secret that his superiors are trying to stop him from uncovering. Likewise, in AC 1, Altair sees himself being told by his targets that not all is as it seems and there is a secret that his superiors are trying to stop him from uncovering. I think if Altair had seen how Basim fought against the status quo and called out the hypocrisies of the hidden ones, he would have been very proud. they both have that rebellious spirit that propelled them forward in an organisation that promoted stagnation robed in illusory progress.
Basim understood that he had to break the instructions of Roshan, just as Altair did with Al Mualim, and they both ended up confronting their mentors because knowledge of the precursor race led them to act outside of the true ideals of the assassins. Altair defeated the temptation of the precursor view after defeating his mentor, and Basim did not. This is the point where Altair and Basim differ, and of course, although I draw parallels, both their stories are unique and I still love that basim we have in Valhalla. But I wanted to talk about this because AC Mirage made me believe that Altair would be proud of Basim if he ever saw him.

I'm going to be controversial here and say that I loved, with every bone in my body, the modern-day/Isu storyline in Valhalla. Don't get me wrong, I hated the mythological gameplay sections of it and have never played anything more boring, but the story we got with the Norse Isu, Layla, Desmond and Basim is some of the more interesting AC Lore I've ever been exposed to. I truly think Darby Mcdevit performed a miracle pulling all those threads together. I love Basim's story and his link to the ISU (no spoilers) and I love how this is expanded upon in Mirage. The magnitude of the ending is one that is perfectly proportional to the magnitude of the game, and once again, it is a fresh change of pace. This isn't some universe-defining ending that changes the way we understand AC lore, and that is a good thing. This game manages to provide a compelling ending and tell a good origin story for one of my favourite characters in the franchise, and that is all I needed.
Ending the game in terms of gameplay, however, is no small change. Mirage is a stealth game that very heavily rewards you for the use of tools and abilities. it is also one that rewards you for understanding enemy behaviour and camp layouts. So playing through restricted areas of the game with a full toolset and an understanding of how to use your environment in your favour can completely change the experience of clearing the same camp you cleared earlier in the game. I thought it would be fun to show you my endgame assassin, and how I upgraded my tools to favour my style of play. I also think it is a good opportunity to show you how to use all the different tools harmoniously, and how to weave them into your use of assassin focus. Overall, I've absolutely loved AC Mirage and intend to continue playing it and replaying it for a while. but for now, enjoy my endgame assassin.

It's evident from start to finish in the game, the development team genuinely "gets it". They've tuned into our desires, the nuances we missed, and the core elements that make Assassin's Creed so beloved.
What's truly commendable about "Mirage" is its ability to blend the old with the new. It delivers a gameplay experience that, at its heart, is just pure fun. Remember those days when stealth wasn't a mere option but an art form? When every assassination felt like a puzzle, and every successful takedown was a symphony of precision? That sensation is back. The game masterfully crafts an engaging loop, making every stealth encounter feel rewarding and every choice impactful.
And while the echoes of Ezio's charm or Unity's ambition might be in the background, "Mirage" isn't trying to be a mere reflection of the past. It's confidently carving its own identity within the series. It stands tall, proclaiming that while it draws inspiration from its predecessors, it's still very much Assassin's Creed in its unique, vibrant manner.
There are a lot of things I would change about Mirage. Things I would improve, add and remove. But I promise you that not for the world would I ever want Mirage to not have been released. I am so glad this game is part of the franchise.

I spent the last day or so playing through AC mirage, staying away from the internet at all costs as spoilers and reviews started flooding my feed. I wanted to experience this game as a fan first. Not as a content creator, and not as a member of the community. I wanted to see what I’d FEEL about the game before taking into account what anyone else THOUGHT. And well, I absolutely love it. It’s a game that delivered pretty much exactly what i was expecting it to, and that makes me very, very happy.
I won’t give a full review here since you’ve probably already watched 6,000 of those, but I will give you some of my thoughts and observations about my experience:
The stealth in AC Mirage is…good. In fact, it's very good, but in my opinion, it's not great. To me, AC stealth can only be great when it is facilitated by a good and complex movement system since, for an Assassin, movement and stealth are often joined at the hip more than in other games. Since the movement is still the same mediocre formula that started with Origins, I feel like a lot of Mirage’s additions, such as the different tools, are often stunted and not allowed to shine as much as they should. (this would be even worse if we didn't have Assassin focus as a great movement tool in stealth scenarios)
What I love about the game is exactly what I was hoping I would love: the story, the world and the mission design. Those three things combined have led me to be emotionally invested in a game in a way I haven’t in a long time. The game has effortlessly created countless moments of tension both in and out of missions, where stealth not only feels fun, but necessary, and the risk of detection is so high and the consequences so dire that you really stop and think Jesus this is crazy. You can FEEL the character’s tension and sense of urgency, you can sympathise when they freak out over the possibility of getting caught and its consequences because the game makes them real.
This is a game that I plan to replay many times, since its smaller size has allowed the developers to handcraft all missions and fort layouts, allowing for organic experiences to pop up all the time. I remember one time I was infiltrating a fort in order to assassinate a target: a general of some sort. At the same time, I had a high enough notoriety level that I was being hunted by a mercenary looking to kill me for a reward. So there I was, a hunter looking for his prey, while at the same time being hunted himself.
In any other game like Origins, Odyssey or Valhalla, this would be nothing but a mild inconvenience, since you could easily dispatch them with your overpowered character and resume your mission. But not in this game. In this game, meeting blades with a mercenary means almost certain death, especially in a restricted area where other guards will launch at you the second they detect you. Basim is not a fighter, he is a glass cannon that can deal damage but not take it. So a simple mission about infiltrating a guard outpost and killing a target became a double cat and mouse game where I clear through the stationed guards WHILE staying out of sight of a lurking mercenary WHILE looking for my target and figuring out how to lure him out from his safe box. It was mesmerising how a simple gameplay loop became such a memorable experience, and how many of those there are in this game. (Not to mention those crafted by the narrative itself)
There clearly too much to talk about in this game, but I wanted to let you know that I have been having an amazing time, AC Mirage is a wonderful addition to the franchise and a game I will be playing for many years to come.
Also Top Tip: Use Assassin Focus for movement, rather than multi-kills. It can really speed things up and compensate for the lack of parkour.

At least... as we know it. It feels to me like next year will be one of colossal change, one that will come with a lot of good and a lot of bad. But, regardless of what next year holds, it is clear that Mirage will be that last TRUE stand-alone assassin's creed experience. AC Red will kick off the AC Infinity platform, a live service hub with all the future games of the franchise, in which any hopes of a conclusive storyline can be thrown out the window.
Next year begins the infinite churning of games that cannot possibly sustain an intriguing overarching plot. That plot had already been skinned alive multiple times by the entries after Black Flag, but I was excited to see Valhalla do the impossible and reinject it with stakes, intrigue, and lore-accurate resolutions to decade-old threads. I am excited to see how they carry this on in Mirage, but also sad that I know this will be the last time we will probably ever hear from Basim, or we will ever know about the modern-day plot's new urgent mission.
This is why I say AC is limping to the finish line. AC Mirage is the last AC game that will be part of the old version of games, which was released independently, had an end, and no infinite live support. I fell in love with that type of game, and it is sad to see how the last three entries have been desperately trying to satisfy everyone and ended up pleasing no one. I envision Mirage crawling on the ground, trying desperately to do what its teammates behind it didn't do: give a meaningful send-off to the old version of the Assassin's Creed franchise.
In this video, I play as the last three protagonists in the style that I find most immersive, trying to do what I can to make these games feel like Ac games. The first one is easy, Aya herself takes over a fort in silent style using sleep darts, one bow, and her hidden blade. Then we have Alexios, in my usual proto-assassin build that fuels the head-canon I have of this Greek proto assassin that found one or two ISU artifacts in his hunt for early templars. Finally, Eivor plays him as a heavy Viking assassin who hammers through this French fortress with unstoppable ferocity. Incorporating brutal kills into a pure stealth playstyle is how I find Eivor most immersive and most convincing as a Viking assassin. Enjoy!

But not Assassin's Creed Unity. This game is like that car in your neighbor's garage; a 1960s relic, somehow shinier than when it was first parked. It's so absurdly good-looking, you'd swear Ubisoft struck a deal with some time-bending sorcerer.
AC Unity’s graphics aren't just a technical marvel; they're a slap in the face to every modern release. "Remember me?" it seems to whisper in sultry French undertones. "I've still got it." There are so many games released now have poor art direction and head-scratching bad graphics. AC Unity glides through its digital Paris like an ageless ballerina, every move calculated, every pixel dripping with elegance.
There's a sensation that every brick in Paris was laid down with purpose, each roof tile has its own backstory, and the Seine flows with the weight of a thousand historical tales. It's as if the developers were handed a magnifying glass and told to go nuts, zooming into the minutiae until each detail was exquisite. The game's beauty isn't just skin deep; it dives into the marrow, giving depth and texture to a world so vibrant, it could well be mistaken for reality.
Sure, modern games boast about their sprawling landscapes – huge, expansive, yet often as lifeless as a cardboard movie set. AC Unity may not span continents, but its Paris is a living, breathing entity, brimming with stories in every alleyway, atop every cathedral, and behind each revolution-inciting chant.
Let's be honest, Unity has its quirks, But when the sunset hits Notre Dame, or you're caught in a Parisian downpour, seeing raindrops slide down Arno's meticulously designed jacket, you remember why this game is iconic. It captures a magic that many newer games lack: the magic of a world crafted with a love so evident, you can feel it with every leap, every assassination, every rooftop rendezvous.
It's more than just a game; it's a passionate love letter to Paris, to history, and to gamers. And every time I boot it up, I can't help but think, "This 9-year-old title is giving today's releases a masterclass in sheer aesthetic brilliance." It's the digital wine that's aged to perfection, and folks, the year on the bottle says 'Unity'.

Step into the tumultuous world of Assassin's Creed Unity, and this debate finds its finest exhibit. For those who let themselves be truly absorbed, AC Unity unfolds as a piece of art, painstakingly detailed and brought to life. It is a game that chose depth over size in most of its aspects, and it is a philosophy of game development I wish Ubisoft would have used for the last three games.
Paris, in AC Unity, is not just a backdrop; it's a character in its own right. Every cobblestone street, every clandestine alley, and every baroque balcony isn't just there for aesthetics; they're threads in a larger narrative, waiting to tell tales of revolutions, love, betrayal, and ambition. There's an allure to Paris that's hard to articulate; it's as if every brick in its ancient architecture has a story waiting to be told. As a player, I'd rather traverse these smaller, meticulously crafted worlds than roam vast, repetitious terrains that fail to resonate on a deeper level. It's baffling that more games don't embrace this 'less is more' philosophy.
Unity, despite its technical misgivings, is like that intriguing novel with smudged ink and a few torn pages, but a plot that leaves you spellbound (never will this refer to the actual campaign, but the world itself and the stories you tell yourself because of it). It’s strange, how in the grand tapestry of the Assassin’s Creed universe, where every title vies for supremacy on one front or another, Unity seems to lag in most departments except its open world.
In the spirit of soaking in this masterpiece of a world, I’ve crafted a gameplay that steps back from the typical large buildings I make videos in, and uses the streets of Paris as its playground. As always, it leans into the very essence of being an assassin. And while the beautiful custom outfit in this video, brought to life by KinimodXD and LordofThe9, might catch your eye, it's the soul of Paris and the essence of the true assassin that I hope truly shines through.
I also wanted to try out an unreleased version of the acu fixes mod as it really pushes what you can do with your Assassin. that Nametaken kindly provided. also, thanks to @Whitelight for the title idea. It's a quote from one of his videos :)

We think of the direction the franchise could have gone in if the game sold well, and where we would be now. it is a heartwrenching addiction we have as a fanbase to always harken back to the wasted potential of these wonderful ideas Ubisoft delivered in a half-finished shell, and Unity and its "could haves" are usually the primary source of our nostalgic, daydreamy woes. However, there is one other "what if?" that haunts me even more than that. Of course, I'm talking about the long-lost sequel to AC Origins, where we take control of Amunet and head to Rome, to watch her establish the brotherhood and create the tenets that guide it for centuries to come.
I always imagined that after Origins, we would have a trilogy, one that I was more excited for than I think anything else in the AC franchise. I wanted a second game with Aya in Rome, and then a third game where you can switch between Bayek and Aya in Greece. This trilogy, dubbed "the Mediterranean trilogy", was the single thing I wanted most in Assassin's Creed. Not just because I fell in love with the characters, but because I saw the community so connected and excited about Origins, a game we all seemed to like at the time, and it was the perfect setup to bring AC back into a Golden age of sorts. We were all ready to rally and show up for these characters, and there were so many easy and obvious improvements on Origins the devs could have made to make it a more complete RPG assassin experience (and none of those improvements had to do with adding dialogue choices or multiple endings or level gating). I remember I could HEAR my heart shatter when those expectations of a trilogy were dissolved the second I saw Alexios ride under a Greek statue in the new Assassins Creed trailer. That was the moment I actually left the Assassin's Creed franchise, from pure disappointment. I never played AC again until AC Valhalla years later, and though it is a game I enjoyed at the time and one that made this channel possible, it is still a Far cry away from the dream games I had dreamed up when I was playing origins for the first time and feeling that sense of wonder.
And here, 5 years later, I can finally get a glimpse of what that could have been. This is the mod I have wanted most since I got a PC, and, until last week, it was thought that AC Origins Modding was basically impossible. That's until Jinouga, Kuza, and Valkanya found a method to mod the game, creating a whole new age of RPG creed mods that I'm so excited to start using. I mean, the possibilities are endless.
Of course, from pure excitement, the first thing I did was go and make another Canon Stealth Video. For those who don't know, a canon stealth video is a series I have on the channel where I play exactly the way I think the assassin would have historically played according to their lore, using the right equipment and pushing the game mechanics to the limits to try and get the most immersive and assassin-esque play through, while being loyal to the character's lore. For Aya, or Amunet, that meant giving her no shield, and only one bow (this is how she is seen in the Hidden Ones DLC). I also gave her dual blades since these are her go-to weapons. I played her more aggressively, not necessarily worried about being detected sometimes, but more concerned with dispatching enemies quickly and with style. I chose the most Roman looking outpost in Cyrene, to really have a glimpse at how her outfit and her stealth would look in an ancient rome game, and honestly, I really love how the video looks. All the guards are Roman, the amunet mod works perfectly, and this is a perfect coupling to the first canon stealth video I made for Bayek. I hope you enjoy it.
This mod was done by @ValkanyaFRttv with the help of @jinouga-assassinscreedmodd3155 They, along with @CaughtYouLaccing are the first people to properly mod Assassin's Creed Origins, so again, thanks to them for making my dream mod come to life: nexusmods.com/assassinscreedorigins/mods/144

My Instagram: bit.ly/IggyParis ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Theres Nothing Like AC UnityAltair Stealth2023-08-11 | From top to bottom, AC Unity is an unfinished game with more bugs than an ant colony and a line of code that was probably first written in Braille and then translated to the devs by a dyslexic monkey. It is a miracle the parkour or the stealth works at all with how complex and messy it is for a game of its time, the story is the definition of the word mid, and there is at least one game in the Assassin's Creed series that handles one of the pillars of the assassin fantasy better than AC Unity: The stealth is more developed in AC Brotherhood, the parkour is more "parkourable" in AC 1, the story is better in Black Flag, the voice acting is better in Origins, and the graphics are better in Odyssey. AC 1 serves a truer assassin fantasy, AC 2 gives a better look at the development of an assassin in training, and AC Syndicate has better-designed black box missions. Apart from customization, Unity is not the best at doing anything. And yet... this is one of my favorite games of all time and is in my top 3 AC games after Brotherhood and Origins. And, by an extraordinarily large margin, I have spent the most hours playing AC Unity over any other videogame.
To me, I think AC Unity is a masterpiece that was shot in the leg on its way out of the factory, beaten over the head with a baseball bat, and then told to stand proud for all of us to see. It's broken, I get it. But at the same time, it is an experience that is greater than the sum of its parts. When I play it, when I enter that rumored flow state that oh so few people have had the privilege of experiencing, I feel what no other Assassin's Creed game could ever make me feel. A 9-year-old game STILL feels like a next-gen entry in the franchise, I still feel like I am either telling or uncovering a story before me in every street of Paris.
Out of all of the assassins, Arno was the one who always felt the most "mine". The customization really lets me make Arno more of a shell for my own preferences in what I would want an assassin in Paris to look like. And to me, that is something that really adds to the addictive quality of the game., It's the closest I would ever want to get to the notion of making your own assassin.
In this video, I wanted to make a more slow-paced routine, using more classic assassin things like social stealth, money bombs, some cool parkour, and berserker darts. I usually make much faster videos, with more aggressive stealth, but I wanted to slow down just to appreciate the mechanics that truly fall in line with an assassin (not the style I normally use doesn't, only that I usually play more like how I think Altair would complete a mission). I also really wanted to bask in the beauty of my new custom channel outfit you see in this video :) Made by KinimodXD and LordofThe9.

Connor was a hated character for not living up to Ezio’s glory, the game was lambasted for its poor story and subpar world design, and a short year since it released, the game was quickly overshadowed by the golden child that came after AC 4 Black Flag. But the community as a whole has come back, in a similar way as we came back to Unity (though not with as much force), and we have all seemingly thought: “Perhaps I treated you too harshly”.
AC 3 is a game with a lot of flaws, and definitely, not one I rank in my top 5. But I do think it is a great game, one that has a lot to offer in terms of combat, parkour, and when it lets you… stealth. It’s beautiful and filled with character, and Connor is an absolute force of nature. The game provides a very distinct assassin fantasy that, although doesn’t cater directly to me, has a lot to offer that we didn’t get in the older games.
AC 3 is the game that got me into the franchise, so I’ll always have a soft spot for it. But I really do think there is a lot to love from Connor and the American open world. The story may not be my favorite, but some of my favorite characters like Haytham were born from it. I think, with the direction AC has gone, AC 3 is now one of the good memories we have of the old Assassin’s Creed, one that deeply cared about the philosophy of its world. I urge you to play this game again if you haven’t in a while, and try and enjoy it in the way the developers intended: a brutal assassin with a preference for combat and bloody assassinations, who also has the capacity for menacing stealth. I think you’ll walk away with a fun time.
In this video, I recreated/adapted an old run from a great YouTuber called Maceonik, who pioneered the idea of stealth runs in Assassin’s Creed. It's something we've been doing since the beginning of the franchise, and it's something we'll probably still do years down the line. The modding community behind AC Unity and other ACs have provided so many niche and amazing mods that transform the game experience into basically an AC Fan's perfect dream. In this video, I realized one of my top desires for an AC Game: A late 1900s AC. I first created a character using the AC Victory outfit mod, which is one of the greatest outfits in the series, and equipped this badass assassin with Altair's sword and a modern MK3 gun. The combination of this old ornate sword with a modern gun is the perfect encapsulation of how a modern Assassin would equip himself.
I then added some modern enemies and used ACU Fixes to really tie together this epic video. AC Unity does feel like a better game overall, and these mods allow me to express a different player fantasy. I hope you enjoy it!
A Special Thanks To @halzoid98 for helping me work these mods and for his amazing work!

Not only for obvious reasons like its protagonist being my favorite assassin, or for being the game that kicked off this franchise, but because it is, to me, unlike any other game I have played, Assassin's Creed or otherwise. The worldbuilding and lore that this game sets up in both its historical and modern-day sections are so bizarre and dystopian that I can't help but think the original vision for the story of AC was meant to be much more detached from our real-life world as it later became. I remember reading the emails on vidics computer, walking up to the window in that stale Abstergo room, and imagining the kind of world that would be out there, hoping desperately to explore it. Even now, when I play the game, knowing what things were retconned and how AC 2 changed so much of the modern-day style, I still come back to this game and get the feeling of unsettling curiosity that I got when I first played this game. Part of me wishes we had gotten a whole franchise in which the modern-day gameplay is this slow, puzzle-solving game where we try and escape our environment and learn more about the world we are in, and the historical section is the third-person action-adventure game we know and love. I really would have loved to see where all the original ideas of AC 1 would have taken us if AC 2 hadn't made it a more traditional triple-A game.
Most of the criticism I hear about AC 1 is related to the mission structure and its "repetitive nature". While I agree that the mission design is repetitive, I don't see this as objectively negative. Whether the missions are repetitive is a bad thing or not depends solely on whether you enjoy what you are doing. To me, the idea of investigating, tracking down, and killing templars is the perfect gameplay loop, with no fluff. I love the interrogations, the merchant stall missions, the archer missions, etc... these are all missions that give you a decent amount of freedom in how you complete them. When you learn how to efficiently and stylishly navigate the game environment that the game developers beautifully handcrafted, you can see how the fun is not in completing the mission, but in HOW you complete the mission, in the approach, you decide Altair will take to complete these simple objectives. I really urge those who think this game is too repetitive, to think of these as missions and mini-levels in which the goal is not to complete it as quickly or hassle-free as possible, but rather tell a story. A short story of how Altair, the version of Altair that you decide to interpret from the lore we've been given, would go about completing this mission. I think it will help you see this game in a new light.

The player has so much freedom on on how to reach and kill a target that it makes Unity look like a beta test. The gameplay loop and blackbox environments are much tighter and well designed, and I wanted to explore some of the more unorthodox and weird ways the game lets you take out the target. In this video, I use my two favorite ones that completely unlock a whole new level of Assassin Fantasy for me in this game and unlock a bunch of new cool stealth moves that we could have only dreamed of before.
I am using the ACU Fixes mod ( nexusmods.com/assassinscreedunity/mods/131 ), which completely fixes many issues with unity, unlocks more situations to use bombs and projectiles, as well as letting you toggle your hood, zoom out with smoke bombs, CATCH LEDGE and a bunch of other quality of life improvements. Unity has reached a whole new level of enjoyment for me, and I cannot wait to replay more of my favorite missions with all this new tech.
I am also using Halzoids Outfit Manager ( nexusmods.com/assassinscreedunity/mods/126 ), which I also used in my maxed-out ac unity video. It's so addictive to create your own color schemes, and it really takes customization to the next level.
If you have a PC I seriously urge you to try these out and explore Unity in an entirely new way, that unlocks much-needed player agency and expression. I am absolutely in awe of what these modders have been able to do.

They're supposed to showcase the ultimate version of the assassin in each game. This is not necessarily the most canon version, although they tend to overlap in the old games because they were made with the assassin power fantasy in mind.
AC Unity is a bit of a special case because so much of what makes an assassin "maxed out" in this game has to do with Arno as a character and his relationship with parkour and NPCs. AC Unity is a complete sandbox game, and while it does help a lot to have a bunch of tools at your disposal, what makes gameplay truly advanced is the way Arno is able to use Paris as his playground. Arno, at his best, could wipe out any enemy camp without any upgrades at all, especially if you know how to play him properly, and the additional tools add a bit of thematic fun. So I hope you enjoy this showcase in this classic AC unity mission.

All the while, Altair is in that same room stalking them without them knowing. To me, part of the assassin fantasy is not only the assassin being a glass cannon, but the assassin being a deadly predator. The field in which the assassin works is one of unfairness, one where the predator stacks every unfair advantage it has to become unstoppably dangerous. Assassins don't play fair or by the rules, they don't give enemies a chance to counterattack, and they strike before anyone ever knew they were there.
this is something that I feel exists very strongly in AC Unity. Arno does feel like a predator that can run circles around his enemies without them ever having a chance to react, let alone defend themselves. In this video, I play a fun mission that shows how assassins are supposed to be dangerous, where I use a lot of stealth tools and AI Manipulation to clear an enemy camp. I hope you enjoy it.

It looks like the developers really are delivering on *most* of the promises they gave us leading up to the reveal. What I liked most about the showcase was seeing how functional and varied the stealth is, how beautiful Baghdad is, and how tight the entire game seems to be. It seems like making this game smaller in scope has really played in favor of the devs, and I think, so far, they are capturing the assassin fantasy very well. What I felt disappointed by was the parkour. I wasn't expecting Unity or Ezio-level parkour like some people were, but I was hoping for more of a noticeable difference coming from Valhalla. yes, Basim is faster, yes there is a better world design for parkour, but it still is holding forward and pressing x to climb, and I can see that becoming frustrating, especially when we have such a beautiful city that I would much rather explore using older parkour systems. I worry that the fact this city and its parkour playground are so well designed means that parkour is actually MORE disappointing than in the RPG trilogy since those games didn't even have the architecture necessary to drive the system to its limits and still be left wanting.
While I was thinking about how to manage my expectations to not get disappointed with anything else, I've been slowly assuming this is just the sequel to Origins we never got. Not narratively of course, but mechanically and aesthetically. It seems like after Origins, many people including myself, loved the game, and were hoping this was a building block to a new and fresh assassin experience. Though Origins really did capture the Assassin Fantasy for me, it had some things missing: It needed social stealth that we could use organically, better black box missions, a big city with better parkour routes, variation to stealth tools and stealth animations and an overall polish from the initial experience to make it fit more with Assassin's Creed. Guess what Mirage is doing? All of these. It feels like Mirage is the spiritual successor to Origins, in terms of tone, Assassin vibes, and narrative & gameplay mechanics/relationship with the animus. It feels like this is the game we should have gotten instead of Odyssey... as if Mirage is a game that existed in a different timeline where Odyssey didn't and for some reason it bled into ours. And I'm damn happy that it did. Let me know your thoughts below.
Regardless, I am extremely excited for this game and have been bingeing videos about Mirage for days.

I made a community post this week asking if you think a WW2 Ac would work. I think it would, and so did most of you judging from the comments. I think the discussion then revolves around how it would need to be executed for it to work, rather than whether it works at all.
WW2 in games is very overdone, but I think for it to work within AC it would have to take a very different approach, focusing on agents within occupied cities and espionage rather than battlefields and open warfare. Something like the saboteur would be a good model of how this would look.
Another consideration is the core identity of the Assassin's Creed franchise, which centers around the conflict between the Assassins and the Templars throughout history. There is some existing lore within the AC universe pertaining to WW2 that would be very interesting to explore. Anyways, here is some fun concept gameplay of AC in ww2 using an alpha mod by Kuza.

This isn't because I don't like them, I do, it's more that I don't think they lend themselves to express the version of Assassin's Creed that I resonate with most. However, there are a lot of amazing and innovative stealth mechanics in these games, and once you unlock them all (and learn to use them properly) you can really run laps around guards in them. I wanted to continue my Maxed-Out Assassin series with Rogue, not only because I found some cool outfit mods that make Shay look very menacing, but because it is a good midpoint between the old and new AC that I think has a very welcome place in the franchise.

It’s a responsibility I think some games do better than others. I chose these three games because they represent so much of what I think assassin’s creed is, even though they are all so different in style. This is also only at a gameplay level, as we all know lore-wise origins and unity have their issues respecting “legacy”. I selected these games to represent the three main eras of assassin's creed because of how each epoch slowly takes away the distinction between high profile and low profile. In the classic games (1-Rev) you have three states of movement (4 really) - walking, jogging, and sprinting. in the Kenway games up to syndicate, movement becomes binary: you are either walking or you are running, and only one additional button needs to be sustained rather than two. Origins strips it back even further and changes how much control we have over the assassin, restricting movement speed to only one source or input - the joystick. Despite this streamlining and honestly restricting of movement, I still feel like these three games respect the legacy of assassin's creed and recapture it in three different ways.

Mirage is closer than ever yet still seems a lifetime away, and with all this dead time until the release of the game that is supposed to win us back, it leaves space to reflect on what assassin's creed used to be. I chose unity not because it most reflects the assassin's creed that defines the franchise to me when playing it, but because it does when watching it, and that is the emotion I am trying to convey to you. Watching AC Unity is how it feels to play the classic games, and both of those things are what I miss about the old AC, the sense of wonder and spectacle you gained from watching and playing as our favorite shadowy warriors. I really hope that Mirage can marry the look of ac unity with the feel of the older games, not in a 1:1 imitation, but in an intimate understanding of what it is to create an assassin fantasy and let us enjoy it in the new generation.

I've had the joy of being able to play AC Brotherhood all over again since I now have it on PC, and I got inspired to FINALLy do an outgunned run (that mission has been done by everyone in the stealth AC community), and I also wanted to show off some cool outfits that I really like using. The outfit I'm using in the first half is one from revelations. The reason I like using it is that in my headcanon, the person doing the outgunned mission is not Ezio, but a high-ranking recruit that ezio sent to do the mission for him (I'm weird I know). But it makes it more fun to think that since I've done these missions so many times. I wanted to make a video to show what is possible to do in brotherhood when you have all your tools available. this isn't a canon stealth video, As I need way more prep time for a video like that, but more a video showing the things you can do to bring out the assassin fantasy.

All enemy models have been swapped with medieval models, and all NPCs as well. The atmosphere in Franciade is perfect for a mod like this, and it is a perfect vessel to explore how overpowered the Assassins were in the middle ages. AC Unity is a game with very gritty realistic graphics and amazing animations, so it's the perfect game to really bring to life the legends of the assassins when they were at the peak of their power... when they got close to destroying the templar order. I've always wanted a traditional Assassin's Creed game in the middle ages, especially since I love AC 1, and that's set in the middle ages too. Altair's outfit is perfect for this mod, and honestly, I felt like I was rediscovering unity just seeing Arno zipping from target to target when they all look like medieval Knights. Syndicate is very polished and functional, and its shortcomings come from the restriction in gameplay and in the misunderstanding of the assassin fantasy. I have always disagreed with the tone ubisoft quebec uses for Assassin's creed, and it's sad to know we were so close to a gritty and down-to-earth game called AC Victory. The industrial revolution is a very dark period of history, and I would have liked a game that matched that in tone and aesthetic. I use George's outfit in this video because it immediately sells the victorian assassin much more than having Jacob run around with a top hat all the time. I also used a reshade to make everything look much more realistic. Thanks to the game's incredible mission design and these two mods, I get a gameplay experience of the Ac London that I actually would have wanted. I hope you find the video as immersive as I did, and you can see how just changing the outfit, the way one plays, and adding a good reshade can save the assassin fantasy in the game. Of course, nothing we can do about cutscenes and dialogue, but this video is a good concept of the type of game I would have wanted.

I thought it would be a good idea to start the year with a Unity video just to get the traffic going after a hiatus. I think dead kinds is the best DLC in all of AC and it makes anyone who enjoyed the challenge of the base game of ac unity have an even harder map to enjoy. Dead kings is significantly harder than the base game mainly because of the sheer density of guards, and how both factions are now allied against you. I still remember playing this first mission all the way through and absolutely loving it. I thought I would record the first half of the mission just to create some cool stealth moments. My favorite part of the DLC is Franciade itself, and I prefer it to Paris's main map. it makes me feel like a medieval assassin, especially with Altair's outfit on. Hope you enjoy it!

I tend not to make compilation videos because I find the flow and tempo of a normal stealth run to be way more relaxing and satisfying to watch (especially since you can weave in cool parkour in between kills), but I think making a compilation of all the assassin's creed games and some of my best kills in them once a year is a cool tradition. Now, by best kills, I mean either kills that in my opinion display some cool or obscure tech, or could also just be cinematic moments that permeate the assassin fantasy. After all, these games aren't exactly notoriously difficult to be "good" at, so this video is by no means a video meant to pretend this is hard or impressive, but rather, it's more a representation of the kind of playstyle I like and the kind of fantasy that I chase in these games. It's always so bittersweet when you are taken on a journey through time and a talented script writer perfectly encapsulates what made the old games so special, flaws and all. It's such a stark contrast to how the modern-day AC games make me feel, that even if I love them (e.g. Origins), I still find myself yearning for that magic that the classic games captured. The reason I wanted to make a video with Unity instead of brotherhood this week is because of a point Whitelight made in his video. Unity is a broken and unfinished mess, but for every 5 times that the game doesn't give you what you want, it will once, and that one time is so satisfying to the part of me who actively seeks out the assassin fantasy, that it makes up for all the other failures. This is I guess one of the reasons I love choreographing videos for Unity even if it is more time-consuming: once you get it right, and you get the run you want, it is such a spectacle to look at and to play. Part of me misses how satisfying the parkour/stealth/combat of these games was, and how they all worked together to serve the assassin fantasy. I don't think we will ever get an AC like this or the Ezio trilogy again, not only because Ubisoft has no interest, but because it was also a bit of a "right time right place" situation. If the ezio games were released today, they would not have had the same impact on the community that they did back then. So while I do think the old AC formula wont come back identically to what it was, i dont think it should either. My dream is for them to bring the tenets of the Assassin fantasy into the modern age, and perhaps mirage is the game to do that,
