Simon Basset | Tolerate It warmhearth 2020-12-30 | "I notice everything you do or don't do..."Watch in HD!So Bridgerton has been unleashed on the world! I honestly did like this season as far as pacing, other storylines, and casting was concerned (despite not caring for the romance or heroine of this book at all) and I'm excited to see more of this series brought to life. I definitely hope we get Colin's season as it's my favourite. It's time for my take: the first book of this series was, as far as I've read, the worst of them all. I didn't like Simon or Daphne much and their story made me quite uncomfortable (if you ship these two, I'm not judging you, this is just my opinion). I was pleasantly surprised that the show improved on Simon's character though, hence this video. The idea for it kind of seized me and wouldn't let up, so I thought I'd drop one last, simple edit for 2020. As I read the book, I did prefer him to Daphne, and the show version deserves so much better, which I tried to showcase though this was a bit messy. Simon was constantly let down in his relationships and badly misunderstood by everyone. I adore Will and Lady Danbury but it was painful to watch them side with Daphne over him. That's the nature of the times, so I get it, but everyone was pushing him to move on and have kids (which in the end, seems like the right choice for him!) but without ANY acknowledgement that his feelings were valid. It wasn't about helping him do what he deserved for himself, instead it was everyone trying to force him to be over his trauma/hardships. His love for his father or Daphne was never enough and it killed me. One of the most annoying things for me is that Daphne never apologizes for what she does. All she continues to do is hint at how he would be happy with kids or how he’s so good with them. They painted this problem as something that Daphne needed to forgive and not the other way around—once she was over it then Simon had to be too, and she could keep trying to make him do what she wanted and start a family. Like I said, I liked the setup for future seasons, but I think that touting this as a Feminist Show/Season™ is a real problem given their story. I really wouldn’t be so annoyed about the way this season played out if creators/interviewers/etc weren’t talking about it’s progressiveness. It’s rubbing me the wrong way lol. They've got a lot in common and their friends think so too, so they start dating. Pretty early into this relationship, Jughead learns that his dad is being released from jail. He and Veronica go to visit FP, who shows his distaste for her, but the couple brushes it off and continues with their relationship. Later, Jughead finds out that FP won't be able to support Jughead right after his release, so Jughead plans to stay with Veronica, much to both of their excitement ;). FP disapproves of this arrangement, and continues to tell Jughead not to be with her, making Jughead doubt the relationship himself. When Jughead catches Veronica flirting with another guy to help Betty, FP once again warns him and Jughead decides to move back into the trailer park. Though Jughead tries to hide FP's hatred of Veronica, their relationship is rocky as she watches him get closer to his father and the Serpents. It comes to a head one night when Jughead ends up in the hospital after a fight. FP and Veronica speak in the hospital, revealing to Veronica that nothing has changed and Jughead being distant with her is FP's influence. Once Jughead recovers, Veronica breaks up with him for his lies, leaving them both heartbroken. FP invites Jughead to join the Serpents officially, and the pair goes their separate ways :(.Did all of this translate in the video??? I doubt it! But here we are anyway ♥. He's obviously interested, but he watches Veronica meeting Archie and knows (because Archie is Archie) that they're going to hook up. Sure enough, Veronica and Archie become a couple and spend all their time together, making Jughead their third wheel. When Archie has to skip town and breaks up with Veronica, she goes to Jughead for comfort and they start up a friendship that Jughead dreams could be so much more. Veronica is hesitant at first, but they hook up in the end and, ahem, enjoy each others'...fine company...for a time. When Jughead starts hanging out with his father and the southside serpents more, Veronica starts to worry about him. He tells her that he's only joining the serpents to chase a story and Veronica reluctantly lets it drop, though she's still worried about him. Eventually, she realizes that joining the serpents may mean more to Jughead than just a story and confronts him about it. She's heartbroken when he leaves her after they fight and resigns herself to letting him go, but when Jughead finishes writing, he comes back to her. Do I know what happens next? No, I don't!
