While at work on March 3rd, 2023, a piece of glass went through my left hand and severed 80% of my median nerve. That nerve controls from your thumb to half of your ring finger on the palm side. The experience of growing your nerves back is excruciating. Every signal my nerves get registers as pain. Getting it wet washing my hands or in the shower is unbearable. A tissue brushing against it has me in tears from the pain. I woke up one night thinking I had broken my finger because the pain was so bad. I still have 3-6 months of recovery to determine whether or not I will have a permanent disability."Fighting with workers comp has been hell. After forcing me to subsist on two-thirds of my usual income for the past six months, workers comp is now messing with the small amount of compensation they are providing (which is barely enough to cover my bills) and forcing me back to work when I am incapable of using my left hand. My everyday pain level is so high I can barely think, let alone do everything required at work. If you’ve ever had chronic pain on a high scale you know how badly it affects your entire nervous system. "I hate asking for help and assistance, but I’m also someone who tells everyone else to ask for mutual aid when they need it. Time to take my own advice! Right now I don’t know how much longer I’ll be receiving workers comp payments, and if they send me back to work there will be a two-week period when I don’t have any money coming in. Then, in order to return to work they’d have me working a new position that pays significantly lower than my previous position, which puts me in a really difficult situation. What I’m asking for is enough to support myself for the next couple of months in case things with workers comp go south. Specifically, this money will go toward my rent, utilities, food, and paying back money I have borrowed."You don’t get to choose when you have a major injury, but I am so thankful and grateful for any help or support you can give."
