SEOMPI - SEOMPI (1970 TEXAS HEAVY PSYCH) [VINYL RIP] Rivmic 2025-05-30 | SEOMPI (Self Expression On Musically Potential Instruments), was formed in McAllen, TX in 1970. They consisted of Dave Williams (bass), Patrick Rockhill (bass), Bill Reid (drums), Mitch Watkins (guitar), Billy "Skid" Rowe (guitar), and Lee Manley (drums).The main guy here, Dave Williams, began his musical career in 1965 with his band The Headstones, also from McAllen TX. They released two singles in 1966 on the collectable Pharaoh label. After a long jail sentence for a small amount of marijuana, Dave formed SEOMPI in 1970, and the group recorded arguably the heaviest material of the Texas psych scene. This was originally released on the Incredible Sound Show Vol. 5 comp as a song by The Silence (pre-John's Children), but later liner notes state that the track was actually written and recorded by Pierre Tubbs' band The Jeeps. I'd appreciate it if someone could drop more knowledge in the comments!
