OlinUnofficialMidnight Mathematicians is a club dedicated to discussing cool math-related principles in the form of student-given talks. They meet about every other Saturday night, at midnight, with cheese, fancy drinks, and most importantly, math. In this hour-long talk, originally given for Midnight Math on 10/14/12, Kevin O'Toole discusses paradoxes, Principa Mathematica, and how any formal system of axioms is either incomplete or inconsistent.

If you have any questions, please post them in the comments section below this video. I will be reading the comments and posting video responses.
JustTheNarrator: "What has been your absolute favorite assignment so far?"
Errata: I said Ben Bernake, not Ben Bernanke as it should be pronounced.Ask an OlinerOlinUnofficial2012-07-12 | This is the start of "Ask an Oliner", a video series where you ask questions you would like an Olin student to answer, and then I get them answered. The overall lecture was an introduction to non-linear Differential Equations for Linearity 1 (MTH 2188), a course all second-semester Freshman are required to take. This camera was placed in the back row of students.Olin Unofficial - Circuit Lorenz AttractorOlinUnofficial2012-04-02 | As a 1-week final project for Modeling and Control 2012 (ENGR 1110), Ian Hoover and I built a circuit which could solve the Lorenz set of differential equations in real time. We try to explain how our circuit works and also show some real-time plots of the Lorenz system using an oscilloscope.
Unfortunately, even though the Lorenz system is three-dimensional, the oscilloscope could only plot two inputs at a time. However, you can still get a sense of how dynamic and unpredictable this system is just by looking at two variables.
More information about our circuit can be found at:

Enjoy!
