Lens with Cheresse Thornhill Advanced Design 2021-05-14 | Our next guest is Cheresse Thornhill, who has been in the footwear industry over 13 years. Her career began in Beaverton, OR at Nike where she was a footwear designer for 10 years before moving back to her hometown of Miami, FL to teach design at both the high school and college levels. She launched No Shoes Creative, design consultancy, in 2016 and designed footwear for Champion upon the relaunch of the brand. In January 2020, Cheresse made the move to Brooklyn, NY to lead the adidas S.E.E.D. Program as the Design Director. Cheresse is part of the team that’s transforming the footwear industry and cultivating the next generation of diverse design talent.

Leading a team of industrial designers, his role is centered on the creative direction of Google's mobile computing product portfolio, including devices and accessories. His team has worked on the design of the highly recognized line of Pixel mobile products (from the first generation Pixel - Phone by Google, through Pixel 5, as well the PixelBook & PixelBook Go). Before joining Google, he co-founded the firm AGENT based in Mexico City (where he is a native from) working across industrial design and interior architecture for clients such as Nike, Hewlett-Packard, Konica-Minolta, among others. Alberto has received over 40 international awards in the design & architecture fields, and his work has been exhibited around the world.
Lens with Adam Miklosi Advanced Design 2021-02-22 | Our next guest is Adam Miklosi, a freelance industrial designer based in Budapest. He graduated at HDK Goteborg in Sweden and moved to Switzerland for 5 years as a junior industrial designer, moved back to Hungary 4 years ago to establish his own hardware startup. Having worked on various product developments starting from the concept phase up until mass production, he gained wide experience in consumer electronics, healthcare and packaging design. Adam also created interfaces and unique user experiences for hardware and software products. As a curious thinker, he's a keen researcher of new design thinking methods and loves pushing boundaries by the eventual involvement of users in the product development process. Lens with Raja Schaar Advanced Design 2021-02-09 | Our next guest is Raja Schaar is Program Director and Assistant Professor of Product Design at Drexel University’s Antoinette Westphal College of Media Arts and Design. She also co-chairs IDSA’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Council. She is an industrial designer with an extensive background in museum exhibit design and healthcare design who is passionate about ways design can make a positive impact on society at the intersections of health equity, the environment justice, and STEAM education. Raja’s interdisciplinary research focuses on addressing inequities in maternal health through wearable technology; methods for engaging black girls and underrepresented minorities in STEM/STEAM through design and technology and dance; innovation and entrepreneurship education; and biologically-inspired design and sustainability. Raja studies the ethical implications of design and technology through the lenses of science fiction and speculative design.

Context: Evolving Education Advanced Design 2020-12-21 | The conversation continues! We are interviewing Betsy Barnhart, the Program Director of Industrial Design at the University of Kansas. Betsy is focused on providing a connection between academic institutions and private practice to tackle large-scale, complex design problems. Prior to joining KU, Betsy was an Assistant Professor at Iowa State University where she led multi-disciplinary sponsored studios with a focus on market disruption and innovation. He’s a graduate from the Munich University of Applied Sciences and worked for consultancies in London, Milan and Munich for various industries ranging from aviation to power-tools. Lens with Alessandra Fumagalli Romario Advanced Design 2020-11-13 | Our next guest is Alessandra Fumagalli Romario, a Product Designer based in Milan. After her degree at the Polytechnic of Milan she moved to London to continue her studies at the Royal College of Art. During her master's, she explored deeply her interest in education by designing Imaginary Language, a tool to unlock creativity. She worked for the Italian designer Federica Biasi and now for the milanese studio Lorenza Bozzoli. In parallel she keeps working on her own projects always looking for new collaborations and stimulating challenges. With her design practice she always tries to push the boundaries of our system to find new ways to make things, experience the world and interact with each other.

Lens with Vincenzo Iavicoli Advanced Design 2020-09-30 | Our next guest is Vincenzo Iavicoli, he has spent his career developing products, artworks, and interior projects for a worldwide clientele. Throughout his career, he has worked in academia internationally. For thirteen years, he served as Department Chair of the Product Design Department at the College for Creative Studies (CCS) in Detroit, where he teaches and explores practices to advance industrial design education. In 2012, he received the Industrial Design Society of America (IDSA) Educational Award. Prior to CCS, Mr. Iavicoli taught at Tsukuba University and Tama Art University in Japan, Istituto Superiore Industrie Artistiche (ISIA) and Polimoda in Italy, and Art Center College of Design (ACCD) in Switzerland and California. At ACCD, he also served as Corporate Liaison Director, responsible for negotiating industry sponsorship of studio classes and managing the sponsorship projects. Mr. Iavicoli has and continues to conduct workshops, seminars and lectures in the United States, Europe and Asia. Iavicoli holds a Master of Science in Industrial Design from Art Center College of Design (1998) and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Industrial Design from ISIA, Firenze, Italy (1984).

Lens with Mitzi Okou Advanced Design 2020-09-08 | Our next guest is Mitzi Okou, a UX and visual designer from Atlanta, Georgia. After she received her Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design from Savannah College of Art and Design, she moved to San Diego, California where she currently works as an interaction and visual designer at HP. As an up and coming UX and visual designer, she has placed in hackathons put on by companies and institutions such as IDEO, SCAD and MIT that have solved issues ranging from the wealth inequality in the music industry to federal socio-economic injustice. As a design activist, Mitzi recently organized a free and accessible virtual conference called “Where are the Black designers?” that highlighted and brought awareness to allies within the creative and tech industry about the experiences and struggles of being a black designer within the field. She hopes to use the platform to support black designers throughout their career and help them create their own narrative by connecting them with the established legacy of the black design community, creating a hub of resources, and establishing inclusive spaces within the tech and creative field.

Lens with Jonny Jensen Advanced Design 2020-09-08 | Our next guest is Jonny Jensen, a designer who began his creative journey at BYU where he studied Industrial Design. While a student he saw his first off-campus action with Hewlett Packard, which led to a formative experience as an intern with Astro Studios working firsthand with their world-class team. Always interested in footwear, Jonny returned to Salt Lake City, taking a role with the design studio, Modaliti, working in soft goods and specializing in footwear. After exploring consulting and teaching as an assistant professor at the University of Utah, he committed fully to the footwear space at Reebok where he is currently a senior designer in sports performance. In the spring of 2019, Jonny was enlisted for a short-term residency at the Adidas Creator Farm in Brooklyn, New York where he supported design efforts for the future of Adidas basketball and running. Other notable projects include the Nano X, the Legacy Lifter 1 and 2, and JJ Watt 1, 2, and 3. Jonny loves the possibilities of design, the opportunity to consistently improve his craft, and finds fulfillment in the struggle to find harmony and elegance in product creation.

Additionally he co-founded the storied early internet culture blog THE BRILLIANCE! in 2005 along with Benjamin Edgar and Virgil Abloh and worked as the creative director at Havas in Chicago from 2015-2018 and as the VP of Creative at MKTG from 2018-2020. He's also a dad to a 3 year old daughter named Sylvie.

With experience in both consultancy and corporate environments, he has contributed to the successful launch of multiple products. Solola runs a Chicago-based design studio, SO dsgn LLC, and is a visiting instructor at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Before becoming an independent designer, Solola worked as a member of the Motorola Mobility design team, where he acquired much of his knowledge of bringing products to market.
