Come along for the ride as LifeStyle Aviation pilot Sam Linton delivers a DA40 XLT with a custom commemorative stripe scheme to our wonderful client.__________This airplane is dedicated to the memory of the crew of "MISS BEA HAVIN" B-17G 43-37901 of the 837th bomb squadron, 487th bomb group US Army Air Force, stationed in Lavenham UK. Airplane delivered 6/30/44 to Lavenham. Flew 34 successful missions over enemy territory. Scrapped Kingman Arizona 1/6/46.The unit began to focus on strategic targets until March 1945. It attacked oil refineries in Merseburg, Mannheim and Dulmen; factories in Nuremberg, Hanover and Berlin; and marshalling yards in Köln, Münster, Hamm and Neumunster.The squadron was diverted from the strategic bombing campaign to support ground troops during the Battle of the Bulge from December 1944 to January 1945. It also flew interdiction missions during the Allied crossings of the Rhine and final thrust across Germany. It flew its last combat mission on 21 April 1945.The squadron remained in England after V-E Day. The air echelon began to fly their B-17s back to the United States in the last week of July, while the rest of the unit returned to the United States on the RMS Queen Elizabeth in August. Its long list of positive attributes includes superb efficiency, quality construction, technological sophistication and aesthetic appeal from every angle. With so much going for it, there’s little question this is an airplane that belongs on the shortlist of the greatest light twins ever. In a word, it’s a winner.Fly the Diamond DA62 aircraft. It’s a pity, however, that so few people are expected to buy it. Don’t blame Diamond for that. Light-piston twin sales have been so slow for so long that most aircraft buyers — and aviation writers — have written off the segment as all but dead. And no wonder. There aren’t nearly as many pilots hanging around airports today who will tell you they need a twin. That’s mainly a byproduct of the rise of high-performance piston singles like the Cirrus SR22 and Cessna TTx, which can do pretty much everything a twin can but with substantially reduced operating costs and essentially no safety penalty.With a single, obviously, there’s only one engine to care for, and the chances of it quitting are low — and if it does quit in the Cirrus, there’s a full-airframe parachute to save the day. That’s what makes the emergence of an all-new light-piston twin in this class something of a surprise. With the elegantly sculpted Diamond DA62’s arrival amid a field of brawny gasoline-powered singles, suddenly we have to ask ourselves if the market for twins isn’t quite as dead as we thought. Perhaps it has merely been in a state of prolonged hibernation, slumbering peacefully through a long winter, awaiting the arrival of a new kind of light twin, one that can do more with less.In developing this airplane, Diamond Aircraft founder and CEO Christian Dries challenged his team to create a simple-to-operate, fuel-efficient twin and wrap it around a passenger compartment mimicking the latest luxury SUVs. Still, it’s not quite time to announce a comeback for the piston twin segment. The DA62 is an anomaly, an outlier. After all, most pilots coming up through the ranks today who aren’t dreaming of an airline career feel no pressing urge to “move up” to a twin. Those who used to — the pilots who flew twin-engine bombers in World War II and trusted two engines more than one — have all but stopped flying and, for the most part, offering advice to younger pilots.The resulting shift in attitudes and buying habits in favor of single-engine airplanes is clear. In the late 1970s, for example, there were 33 different piston twins on the market. Today, there are only five serious contenders — and apart from the seven-place DA62, only two of these, the Beech Baron G58 and Piper Seneca V, offer more than four seats. Seven seats in a twin in this class, by the way, is quite an engineering feat. I’m not a fan of describing any airplane as an “aerial SUV” — even if, yes, it’s roomy inside and has a decent payload — because the label is almost always an exaggeration dreamed up by someone in the marketing department. But in the case of the DA62 it would be ignoring a glaringly obvious design characteristic not to mention it. With its third-row seating option, oversize doors and seats that fold flat to accommodate bulky items, there’s no other way to say it — our Diamond DA62 for sale aircraft is a sport utility vehicle with wings.That’s no accident. In developing this airplane as an evolutionary step up from the four-seat DA42, Diamond Aircraft founder and CEO Christian Dries challenged his engineering team to create a safe, simple-to-operate, fuel-efficient twin and wrap it around a passenger compartment mimicking the latest luxury SUVs. Its airframe is made largely of composite materials.DEVELOPMENTThe DA42 Twin Star was certified in Europe in 2004 and in the United States in 2005. The airplane is made of carbon composite material. It is equipped with a Garmin G1000 glass cockpit.The DA42 Twin Star was the first diesel-powered fixed-wing aircraft to make a non-stop crossing of the North Atlantic, in 12.5 hours, with an average fuel consumption of 21.73 litres (4.78 imp gal; 5.74 US gal) per hour (10.86 litres (2.39 imp gal; 2.87 US gal) per hour per engine).In June 2010 a DA42 powered by Austro AE300 engines became the first aircraft to be publicly flown on algae-derived jet fuel. By March 2012 the DA42 had become the major income driver at Diamond Aircraft. Company CEO Christian Dries indicated that the market focus of the company had been changed by the recession of 2008—2010 and that the company now derives two-thirds of its revenue from military and government contracts, primarily for manned and unmanned (Aeronautics Defense Dominator) surveillance aircraft.Also in March 2012 Diamond aircraft announced they were developing a fly-by-wire version of the DA42, with the aim of reducing the accident rate in light aircraft. The use of Thielert engines on the DA42 came into question due to Thielert filing for insolvency in April 2008.Due to the insolvency of Thielert and the decisions of the insolvency administrator, including cancelling warranty support and the prorating of time-between-overhaul for the Thielert engines that power the DA42, Diamond announced in July 2008 that production of the DA42 was suspended. At the time production was suspended the DA42 was reported to have 80 percent of the piston twin market.In March 2009 Diamond achieved EASA certification for the Austro Engine AE 300 and returned the DA42 to production as the DA42 NG. The new engine produces 20% more power, while giving better fuel economy than the Thielert engines and results in a higher gross weight and increased performance. The first Austro-powered DA42 was delivered to a customer in Sweden in April 2009, with the first US customer aircraft expected in mid-2010. The DA62’s AE330 180 hp jet fuel piston engines are a refinement of the well proven AE300 170 hp engine, in service in Diamond’s DA40 and DA42 since 2009. With over 1,200 engines in service and a total fleet time of well over 600,000 hrs as of November 2015, the AE300 has proven itself to be smooth, reliable and efficient. Austro Engines and MT Propellers are supported by North American based factory support and parts centres and a network of Authorized Service Centres.AVIONICS: The fully integrated Garmin G1000 flight deck with standard 3-axis GFC700 Automated Flight Control System and yaw damper and Electronic Stability and Protection, is complemented by a long list of avionics options to perfectly suit your mission.
