this composition here builds off of the motifs and elements of another one of my songs "what will be left afterwards ?" !!! I was very curious to see how much the mood of the song could change just by nearly varying the instrumentation alone :0
i kept things shorter this time around, since there are a lot of concepts and stuff I had to learn and practice to make this one hahaha
but anyways, id really like to one day get into ghibli style orchestration !!!! that would of course require me to learn some jazz harmony and well, orchestration ;-; ;-; and so I thought id start with the former here !!!!
i talk about it a lot more in the captions, but if you haven't used dominant substitution for chords before PLEASE look into it and try it out its literally one of the biggest harmony cheat codes I've ever seen and it carried so hard in this song ;-; ;-; ;-;
last time I made something with vocals, I got a lot of comments talking about how I barely gave the singer time to breathe between phases and parts :0 its something I don't think I really noticed until afterwards when it was pointed out as well hahaha and so this time I wanted to try working on making things a little more realistic !! trying to be more intricate with tuning and all of that, but also trying to phrase out the lyrics in ways that are more natural !!! plus able to be sung without suffocating haha
but let me know what you think !!!!! this is something id really like to try and improve with !!

anyways i got distracted making stuff with synthv vocals for a bit, but its really nice to get back to making instrumental stuff !!!!!! i think like the time away from it helped as well, since making this song felt a little bit more intuitive when it came to motifs and all of that :0
I kind of have less than 0 idea of what I'm doing when it comes to lyrics, but I'm hoping I can figure it out soon :0 I think its one of the biggest things stopping me from making music with vocals, besides not knowing how to mix vocals properly hahaha
I think ever since I started getting more into piano a few years ago, I've always had an interest in osts a music in there :0 one ost that really stuck with me in particular was that for nier automata !!! i talk about it a lot more in the captions, but in many ways it gave me a a reason to practice piano more often and an interest in learning to play music in general !
now that I'm making music myself, its a small dream of mine to make an ost for a project that could resonate and stick with someone in a similar way...!!
i don't even know if its a realistic dream, but I'm sure if it is its pretty far out hahaha
but anyways and so this time around, i thought it might just be fun to try and make something along the lines of if it were for something !!
a long time ago I made a song called the forever storm !!! i think a pretty clear pattern with my older works is that although some of them have nice ideas behind them, they kind of consistently suck in terms of execution ;-; ;-;
and so, I thought it would be fun to try and make a song with the same characteristics but executed with the extent of my present-day skills and knowledge !!! (I also liked the idea in hopes of seeing if I could try and get a mood that felt like a fusion of my old and new styles of composition !! I'm actually not sure whether this worked though, so I'm very curious to hear what you guys think hahaha)
but anyways I think this might be my most intricate and cool piano composition yet, and I'm really happy with how it turned out !!! i hope that you enjoy it as well :)
i thought id continue that pattern of taking a short break from trying a bunch of new things, and so kept it simple this time aorund and made something that I thought sounds like the titlescreen theme to an rpg !!!
I thought it would be nice to take a step back from learning new things this time around, and to just make something nice and calm !!
at the same time, maybe to wonder whether new things are good or bad, and whether I should learn these new things :0

so this time around i decided i wanted to try and be a little more conscious about that kind of stuff as well as articulations and dynamics, that way i could make my piano playing and composing a little more proper sounding !!!
i still have a long ways to go, however i hope my efforts show through the composition here :)
I think the hardest part was by far trying to play 31 tet on a normal 12 tet keyboard (╥﹏╥)(╥﹏╥) it was so hard to get used to and still is really weird hahaha
I talk about it a lot more in the captions, but its now been 2 years since I've started learning to make music! It's kind of crazy to me, since it feels like almost no time has passed, although so much has happened :0 It also reinforced the value of time to me, and how we may often underestimate how much we can do and learn in little intervals of time
that being said, I'd really like this to serve as a call to action to anyone interested in making music...!! to anyone interested, id like to offer myself and my knowledge as well..! when I started, I largely just figured things out by messing around aimlessly until I got a feel for them, but I hope that by lending myself as a resource, I can help people bypass that stage, and get into stuff much quicker :0
that being said, if at any time you have any questions about anything music related that you're curious about or feel I could answer, please feel free to leave a comment on this video or really any video on my channel !!!! i do my best to read and reply to them all, and ill do my best to help out and answer to the best of my abilities as well :)
on a final note, id also like to say that music has an insanely low barrier to entry, and you can 100% get into it without spending anything !! everything I did here has used free tools, and the free trial of fl is much much more than capable to make stuff like this !!!!
if you'd like more free things, I link a ton more free music things I love in the description of this video over here !!! youtube.com/watch?v=VTPR5lHiqN4
anyways, I hope this helps and gives anyone on the fence of getting into this stuff the push they need to start :)
i usually use f minor to compose since it makes things easier to jump into other keys for me, but this time I thought id just keep it simple !!! so I decided to make a little song in c major :)
I THINK that the weathers finally cooling down and so im starting to get my music powers back :0 its been so hot lately and its been pretty difficult to be creative during that ;-; ;-; ;-;
this song USED to have that terrible evil cat instrument, but this is what it sounds like with piano !! after I made it I got a ton of comments asking for a piano version, and I am like shocked at the difference it made ;-; ;-; the harmonies are so much more clear..
it was a huge challenge composing this with this instrument ;-; I thought I was going to go insane or something

in this one I used stuff from: - the kirby superstar ultra soundfont - the pokemon diamond and pearl soundfont - the touhou soundfont - drum soundfonts I found
if you'd like to download and use the soundfonts in your own music, I've thrown them into a google drive folder here !!! :)
last time was pretty calm and tranquil, so I wanted to make something pretty high energy and unsettling haha

This time around, I wanted to make something that demonstrates that you can make cool music without any fancy tools or anything special :)
If you're looking for some nice free instruments or are on the fence of deciding to get into music production, I hope any of this may help !!
INSTRUMENTS Piano: Spitfire Labs, Soft Piano Harp: Native Instruments, Irish Harp Music Box: Frozen Plain, Music Box Suite Violin, Viola, Cello: Spitfire BBC Symphony Orchestra Discover
SOFTWARE Alright, I'm using FL Studio here and have the $200 version myself, but there's also a free trial version that allows you to do everything I demonstrated here! The downside of the free trial version is that although you can save projects, you cannot open them. Making it a great way to learn the software and make music, but not a great way to work on long-term projects. If you're looking for a free alternative DAW which is capable of doing all the same things, I would recommend Ardour!
I should note that I'm not at all sponsored by any of these tools or companies !! I just really like their products, and hope that they may help you out as well :)

A short song made in FL Studio 21 using a bass guitar and an acoustic guitar!
A lot of the time whenever I try making stuff with acoustic guitar libraries, I try to put some thought into making things feel natural and possible to play !!
This time around, I decided id do like the opposite pretty much lmao
aside from learning bass irl, I've also wanted to get better at mixing !! its something I've spent very little time on during my journey so far, but something I should probably devote some time to hahaha
and so this time I tried to focus a little more on that !!
hopefully things sound a little clearer than usual :)

Theres like a guitar, cello, piano, flute, some synths, harp, music box, choir, breakcore, electric guitar, bass guitar, recorder....
i kind of just kept adding stuff until the latency on the project got bad enough that I wasn't able to record anything new without being bothered hahaha
Often and especially recently I've been making more complex things :0.. I really enjoy it !! but at the same time its always nice making something simple !
so I thought id take this comment as an excuse to do just that :)
i feel like I'm slowly getting better at bass guitar.. my fingers still hurt so much though and someone also told me that by learning this instrument I'm now like required to keep consistently practicing, or else I have to go through all this suffering again..
this does not make me feel good me at all ;-; ;-; ;-;
but let me know what you feel about the solo in this one !!! i first composed it on an irl bass, then transcribed it to midi after I had things worked out, and am really curious to hear what criticism there might be on it !!!!
Usually when I make battle-ish themes, they're usually pretty focused on having a strong melody as the main bit of the song :0 this time around, I thought it would be nice to have the melody more of an afterthought and to focus on developing a richer ambiance !!
I know I literally just started an ambient music training arc but as soon as I made the last song I had too many ideas for a cool melody and stuff not to use them I'm so sorry ;-; ;-; ;-; next up ill be going back to that other stuff hahaha
this is the first song in my slightly-more-ambient-music training arc !! my goal here was to focus a lot less on melody and harmony, and instead to put a lot more time and energy into the overall feeling of the song !
i think I'm starting to learn that in music, often times the context your ideas are presented within are just as important as your ideas themselves :0..
i really want to slowly get into making orchestral stuff, and so I thought that taking a previous song and adding on to it might be a good place to start !!!
