Great Big StoryJayesh Kale owns over 2,300 old cell phones, most are Nokias, and all of them still work. It’s the largest collection of its kind in India, but Kale doesn’t want to stop there. His dream is to make it into the Guinness Book of World Records. When you visit his home in Thane, India, you will see cell phones everywhere—in the living room, bedroom, in kitchen drawers, even in his wife’s wardrobe (frankly, she’s not happy about it). Russ Cook AKA @hardestgeezer made headline news across the globe. Why? Because he’s just completed the equivalent of 385 marathons in 352 days, running across the entire length of Africa. On his epic journey, Russ took on some of the toughest environmental conditions, including the world’s largest hot desert, the Sahara. But it wasn’t just extreme weather making this such a treacherous mission, Russ also came face to face with robbing, kidnapping, life threatening illness and extreme injuries.
Unsurprisingly, this mission was not his first rodeo. Russ has been taking on extreme challenges for years—running from Asia to the UK, pulling a car the length of a marathon and even burying himself alive for a week. It’s no wonder most people know him better by his nickname, Hardest Geezer.
Back in his hometown, Russ reflects on his colossal mission, revealing a part of his story that has never been spoken on camera before…

A common misconception about hula is that it's a dance tradition strictly for women. Nope. In ancient Hawai'i, men were the first to dance hula, and the best dancers were even chosen to become warriors. Today, Ke Kai O Kahiki—one of Hawai'i's most famous male hula schools—is carrying on this tradition by telling warrior stories with dance. To do so, dancers train in the same way as their ancient forbearers, using the land itself as a harsh and unforgiving gym. To dance like a warrior, you need to train like one.

This symbol of the Arabian Peninsula was almost completely lost when declared extinct in the early 1970s due to poaching. Since then, there's been a heroic conservation effort, raising its status from "extinct" to "vulnerable" with plans to circulate the rehabilitated population of Oryx around the UAE. These antelope creatures, hunted for their tusks, have developed incredible survival adaptations for living in the desert climate, and are an emblem for the resilience of Arabic history.

That’s the Salam Stars crushing it on the court. The all-female varsity basketball team is made up of Muslim students from the Salam School, an Islamic school in Milwaukee. All the players wear hijabs and modest athletic wear. In an ideal world, that wouldn’t be a big deal, but they often face judgment based on their outfits and their religion. But these athletes ignore the haters. The Salam Stars are focused on the game. They play to win while making space for other girls to do the same.

Not many have what it takes to reach the top in climbing. This unforgiving sport is just as much a mental game as it is technical and physical, and has humbled some of the fittest athletes in the world. The wall is however no match for paraclimber Brian Zarzuela.
This athlete doesn’t have your average origin story, in fact, Brian was left out of sports as a kid because of his disability. But one day in middle school, he discovered an afterschool club that changed everything. Brian took up baseball, basketball, handball, ice skating, football, BMX, martial arts - you name it he tried it. He’d finally found an outlet for years of built up energy and it just felt right.
Climbing didn’t however come naturally. On his 19th birthday, Brian took on his first wall, and he admits, he was pretty bad! But there was something about the sport that kept him coming back. He’s winning medals across the world, but how does he perform at the US National Paraclimbing championships?

This is the intricate process behind this legendary fabric. From soaking and drying, to the unique rusty hue achieved through a special reaction involving a specific river mud in China and local yams—each step adds to the charm of what has become known as "soft gold."
We meet Liang Zhu, a local artisan with a wealth of knowledge about the rich history and cultural significance of Xiangyunsha. But these techniques aren't just passed down—they're carefully taught and honed through generations of skilled artisans. We're unravelling the secrets and wonders of Xiangyunsha, an ancient silk dying technique that has been solidified as part of China's cultural heritage.
