To make Luigi appear in the original Super Mario 64, you need to go to the castle courtyard and run 64 times around the star statue. Once you do that, the camera will fly up to the sky and when it comes down Luigi will be standing on the star and will be playable!!!!!! (!)
BTW the trick I just described isn't true, this video is showing a (complicated) ROM hack of my own. Maybe someday the hack will be released to the public.

The game engine was custom written at the time, it is not running NES code. Metroid Curved will be released eventually, but as an incomplete and inaccurate reproduction of the game in 3D. Naaahhh. This is my third Luigi mod, done with a custom program that distorted the polygon data in the ROM. This time I think I got him right (except for its general size, which is too big...). I'm sure some people will still find some faults, but I tried my best to match the proportions of the latest Luigi models seen in Super Mario Galaxy and Super Smash Wii.

The goal was to convert the original NES game into 3d volumetric data using voxels (3d pixels) based directly on the original 8-bit graphics. While the main release used pre-rendered voxel-based graphics, this is an experiment I did to make it run using a "real-time voxel engine".

Thanks to Frauber (aka messiaen) who provided the extended RAM patch needed for my importer to work with such a big level.
Banjo Kazooie includes a much more powerful graphic engine, and can do thing like fading texture layers and supports higher resolution textures, so the level doesn't look exactly the same in SM64.

It's obviously more than a simple, easy to do texture hack. I made this a while ago, and with what I know now about the level format, I could do a better version, with pipes and enemies.
Also, big problem with this hack is that the boxes are too big and high for Mario to jump on with a normal jump. This looks like some early experiment Miyamoto and his team made with the Revolution, when trying to "improve" original NES games. This Hyrule Planet seems to be manipulated and rotated using the Revolution 3d controller. It probably uses Nintendo's own technology called voxelization, to transform the original 2d graphics into 3d.
Presumably in this case, a modified NES emulator would display voxelized graphics, retaining the look and gameplay of the original, but this time in 3d. You should be able to change the camera viewpoint using the 3d capabilities of the controller, while you play.Super Mario 64 Mod 2006Starxxon2006-01-29 | A modification of Super Mario 64 that I did with my own level editor. Don't get your expectations too high, the Mario 64 level format is complicated and there will be some restrictions what you can edit, at least in version 1.0b.

He was just hiding behind the star statue in Peach's castle courtyard. He's a little shorter than usual, maybe from standing too long near the water, but at least, Luigi got all of his head!
Note that the player controlling Luigi obviously never did Mario 64 speed runs videos :)

Ok due to people thinking I was serious and not reading the comments I'm adding some explanation here: No Luigi is not in an unmodified Mario 64 cartridge, yes this is a hack.
But people thinking it's just a texture and color hack probably didn't play Mario 64 recently. Look at the head, it has a different shape than Mario's.
Anyway I don't pretend it's the best hack ever, I did this for fun as a side hack. I have much bigger plans for Mario 64 in the future. (see my other video)
