Things I wish I knew before moving abroad Alyssa Mae Friend 2024-12-15 | Let me be clear- this is not a video criticizing Italy. I love Italy and am grateful to be able to live in this beautiful country. Moving here has changed my life and who I am as a person, for the better. This is a video about things I wish I had known before embarking in moving abroad. Immigration and bureaucracy are difficult and challenging everywhere on the planet, so this is not a problem unique to Italy. It's just something I had no idea about until I had to go through it. I was young (22) and very naive when I first moved to Italy, with wide-eyes and full of romanticized hopes and dreams - so please extend some grace to me when listening to this video, as we all have once been young and naive. Before commenting with anger, please try to see my heart in that I wanted to make a video talking about the realities one might experience in moving abroad, compared to the widely romanticized version on social media. I hate that social media makes it look like moving to Italy is so easy, and, once you do it, you will love your life. That feels like a lie. I aim to always keep things real and honest in my content, and in this video, I mention some things that were very challenging and difficult for me at one time in my life, hoping that this video could be helpful to other people who are thinking about moving abroad. I hope you, reader, can understand my heart. I love Italy. I forever will. No country is perfect and difficulties should be allowed to be respectfully discussed. It makes us better.
