Anything that made someone uncomfortable just didn't get talked about.So, when my body started changing and I didn't understand what was happening to me.I developed an eating disorder as a teenager. I was scared of my own body...in some ways... So I did what a lot of us do when we don't know the answer, I went to the internet. and the internet will always hand you an answer. it's just rarely the right one🫠it took me eight years to find out what the Church actually teaches about the body. turns out it was never "be ashamed, cover it up, don't ask questions." it's that the body is good. that I'm not a soul dragging around a body I have to manage or hide... I AM my body too, and it's part of how I was made in His image. That God himself took on a human body, so a body could never be something shameful. Nobody told me that as a fourteen year old. I had to go find it myself, eight years and a lot of pain. Maybe you haven't gone in years because you're scared of saying what you've done. Maybe youre scared that the priest will judge you. Or maybe it's that you're scared of God being angry, sad, upset, or in general disappointed in you.While it might FEEL like you're protecting yourself by avoiding Confession, that fear is actually just keeping you stuck in shame and guilt. Two things the devil loves to keep us in the cycle of.You are not the only person who's ever walked into that confessional with something heavy. The priest is not shocked. He is not sitting there ranking your sins against everyone else he's heard that week... He is there as an instrument of mercy. I wish someone would've told me that God already knows. There is nothing you could say in there that He doesn't already see. You're not informing Him of anything. You're just finally getting the mercy and healing that you need to grow and become stronger. The longer you stay away out of fear, the heavier it gets, and the more power that fear has over you, Satan loves reminding us of our past and tries to keep us out of friendship with God. But forgiveness is RIGHT THERE, it is completely free, God gives it willingly because His mercy and love outweigh His warth and anger. You don't have to have the perfect words. You don't have to have it all figured out. You can ask the priest for help or watch one of my many videos on YouTube about Confession... But please just GO. HOWEVER, a man who says "I like you, can I take you to coffee" mature, direct, driven, brave, attractive even! A man who leads with "God told me" feels like he is handing you a verdict and asking you to either agree or become the villain.You can pray about someone before you ask them out.
