A thermal imaging camera captures the heat produced when a calibration system is pressurized to 29,000 psi. This video is exciting because it shows in clear detail that when the pressure in a system changes, so does the temperature of that system. This is a visual application of the first law of thermodynamics -- energy can be changed from one form to another, but it cannot be created or destroyed. The video shows that pressure is simply a form of energy. When it's concentrated inside the stainless steel tubing, part of it is converted into thermal energy which changes the temperature of the tubing.
The other exciting part of the video is the visualization of the system attempting to re-establish thermal equilibrium. We can see the temperature spike while pressure is added or removed, but once the pressure change has been made then the system temperature begins a process of equalizing with the environment. The system pressure is slowly changing as the temperature changes. In the calibration world we refer to this as adiabatic effects.
