One of these tornadoes would go down in history as it left behind a 70mi path of destruction. This is the true story of 2022 Winterset Tornado.The tornado was on the ground for over an hour and a half and traveled for 70 miles, making it the longest tracked tornado of the March 5th outbreak and the longest tracked tornado to hit Iowa in nearly a decade. I was Inside the Eye of a Hurricane Celton Henderson 2023-01-15 | On September 28th, 2022, Hurricane Ian would make landfall in southwest Florida as a devastating category 4 hurricane. I would chase the storm and intercept the eye near Punta Gorda, Florida and capture footage of the incredible power of the storm. This is my story of chasing Florida's deadliest hurricane in nearly 100 years. Hurricane Ian is now considered the costliest hurricane to ever impact the state of Florida and 3rd costliest hurricane on record, behind only hurricanes Katrina and Harvey. It claimed the lives of 157 with 146 of those being in Florida. The vast majority of which were a result of the catastrophic storm surge. Damage estimates at the time of making this video are around $113 Billion. Florida Man Nearly Struck by Lightning While Swimming Celton Henderson 2022-07-25 | While observing a thunderstorm near Hudson Florida on July 23, 2021 I captured a fairly close lightning strike impacting the Gulf of Mexico. It wasn't until I reviewed my footage afterword that I noticed that the bolt nearly hit someone swimming in the water..The man appears to have been snorkeling when the lightning impacted the water at extremely close range. He then proceeds to walk out seemingly unharmed. Considering the proximity to the strike I was flabbergasted he wasn't dead let alone injured but the power from the strike seems to have dissipated fairly quickly throughout the water. Lightning is extremely dangerous and a powerful multistroke CG like this one has a good shot at killing you so please do not swim during a thunderstorm. The man in this video is extremely lucky he escaped unscathed.Is the lightning actually moving with the wind? THE PERFECT STORM CHASE - May 26, 2021 Celton Henderson 2022-01-01 | When people think of storm chasing, images of adrenaline filled chaos with monster tornadoes on the ground from films like "Into the Storm" and "Twister" often come to mind. This if far from realistic of what the average day is like for a storm chaser roaming the wide open spaces of the Great Plains.However, on exceptionally rare occasions, nature can mimic and exceed the stories we craft in our imaginations. This video documents one of those rare days where the stars align and something truly remarkable happens. The typical storm chase is not the action packed, Visual masterpiece it is often portrayed as in Films and TV. It is often a slow methodical experience where you may only see one or two interesting phenomena. Whether that be some great storm structure, epic lighting or maybe if your lucky a tornado. However on exceptionally rare occasions reality can mimic fantasy and deliver a truly amazing spectacle. This is the story of May 26th 2021, The Perfect Chase.Today is Wednesday May 26th, today we are chasing a moderate risk with a 15% chance of significant tornadoes. I haven’t checked yet but I’m sure that there's a PDS tornado watch out. I was actually contacted by Billy of the channel More Pi, he needs some assistance retrieving a lost drone from the Selden Tornado a couple days ago. So we’re gonna help him out with that if we can. This cell looks interesting right ahead of me, it fired up early, we’ll see how it goes.Pretty soon I had visual on the storms base and could tell something special was happening. On the other side of this beast, my friend Chris had a much better view. And it didn’t take long for him to meet us at the crash site. While we all began to search for any sign of the drone we were treated to a truly otherworldly display as Aliens seemed to invade the Kansas prairies.Despite our best efforts, we were unable to find any sign of the drone, however it was now time to make a decision on where we would chase for the day.Two primary target areas became apparent, one in west central Kansas along the dryline, and another along an advancing warm front to the north that was lifting into Nebraska. To make things even more complicated the forecast models were having a very difficult time with the environment on this day and had no consistency amongst each other or from run to run.So where would you chase? Would you go with the crowd and join the vast majority of chasers on the southern target or take a chance and choose the northern one? I ultimately chose to trust my gut and stay up north and target storms that were likely to form a little earlier in the day along the warm front where I thought the environment would be more favorable for supercells and tornadoes. After discussing it with Chris and Billy, we all came to the same conclusion and started heading north.Pretty much as soon as we left Selden, storms were beginning to erupt along the warm front, including a well developed supercell near Benklemen, Nebraska that started to produce tornadoes. As we raced north to catch it, another storm exploded just to our west near the town of Herndon Kansas. Although I was initially skeptical of the Herndon storm due to it being interfered with by a left split, we all decided to gamble and break off from a storm that had already produced tornadoes to chase this new one that was rapidly developing to our west.As we turned around the storm was already beginning to produce a tornado.As we closed the distance we couldn’t believe what we saw when we came over the hill.Positioned in front of the storm, we had front row seats to one of natures most spectacular displays… A cyclic Supercell.While one tornado was dying, another began to form closer to us. Picturesque Tornado in Colorado Celton Henderson 2021-11-25 | Incredible close range intercept of an extremely photogenic tornado in Akron, Colorado on May 23, 2021.After the incredible events of the day before in Brush, A similar environment was in place over the same area in Easter Colorado, This time, I sought to get much closer to the action.Just like the day before, the chase began in Sterling, Colorado with an almost identical target area. Tornadoes seemed likely somewhere in northeast Colorado, now it was time to figure out where.For this chase I planned on meeting up with my friend Chris who would be joining me for the next few days. We both decided to meet up near Joes Colorado to begin the chase, however something unexpected would occur before that could happen..Disappointed and set back $350 after my unfortunate encounter with the bird. Chris and I started to make our way west towards a developing supercell that I had been keeping an eye on. As we drew closer, a monster HP supercell came into view.After waiting for the timing to be correct, we cautiously approached the storm and as if it were waiting for us, something interesting started to happen..Just as suddenly as it appeared, the tornado dissipated. It didn’t matter though, me and Chris had just scored one our greatest intercepts to date.Despite our excellent positioning, the storm was going increasingly outflow dominant, however signs were still visible that indicated the storm was still capable of producing more tornadoes.While repositioning to the north the wind suddenly reversed direction and started to blast straight back towards the mesocyclone like it was being pulled into a black hole.From here a large rotating wall cloud developed and for a moment I though the storm would almost certainly produce another tornado. HP Supercell hovers over Sebring Florida! Celton Henderson 2021-11-02 | A quick little sneak peak at a local chase I went on here in Florida on October 28th 2021. On October 28th 2021, a powerful cold front was forecast to move over the state of Florida, coinciding with a warm front moving to the north which provided enough shear and instability for the development of severe weather including the risk for rotating thunderstorms called supercells and possibly tornadoes. EXTREMELY Close Lightning Strike in Florida Celton Henderson 2021-10-25 | On August 14th 2021, I was observing a thunderstorm over Central Florida from what I thought would be the safety of my front door but as I quickly found out, was not the case. As the storm moved directly overhead, I began to feel a tingling sensation and the hairs on my arms and legs started to stand on end, these are signs that there is an intense electric field developing near you. I recognized what was about to happen but it was far to late to react to it. A bolt of lightning landed across the street from where I was filming. The strike was so close that I felt the ground current run up my legs and through my chest. The closest thing I can describe it to would be getting punched really hard in the chest and legs. Please don't stand out during a thunderstorm like this, even if you are under a structure like I was here, you can still be hit or shocked by the strike as I learned the hard way. Ground Current description: The ground current is the flow of charge through the Earth that spreads out from where the lightning makes contact with the ground. I was under the assumption that I was safe from it given I was wearing thick boots while standing under a structure but clearly this was not the case.
BEAUTIFUL ROPE TORNADO 4K - Brush Colorado Celton Henderson 2021-09-21 | Three dreamy Colorado tornadoes touch down near the town of Brush on May 22nd, 2021.After driving more then 2000 miles through 11 different states to arrive in Colorado. I had high hopes for my first serious storm chasing trip. On May 22nd near the town of Brush, the great plains were about to make my wildest dreams come true. After spending some time forecasting, I ultimately decided to target the area south of interstate 76 near Brush Colorado and started to make my way down that direction. What I didn’t expect was for the storm to fire much earlier then the models were suggesting. Once the storms did fire, picking the right storm was a no brainer but what started as a simple repositioning quickly turned into a race against time.Flying down the dirt roads I was able to gain visual on the storm. And from there it didn’t take long for something interesting to start happening.In the time it took me to get my camera on a tripod, a beautiful rope tornado twisted to the ground.After coming to terms with what I had just seen, I got my head back in the game and sought to get much closer to the storm before It cycled again. Before I knew it, another brief weak Tornado started kicking up dust under the base.As the Mesocyclone started to pass overhead, the rising motion under the wall cloud was difficult to believe. I knew a Tornado was likely to form soon so I set up my cameras and waited.Once this final Tornado had dissipated the storm began to choke on its own outflow along with a thick fog killing off most of the instability. This caused the storm to rapidly lose strength and it became obvious I would need to target a different storm. I ultimately decided to punch south towards another storm that had also produced tornadoes.Once I arrived, I was greeted by a gnarly HP beast. Although the base was somewhat visible, it was extremely difficult to determine if anything was going on underneath. After teasing me with some ground scrapping scud under a rotating base, the storm quickly began to go completely outflow dominant and started to collapse.Along the leading edge of the gust front, a large gustnado developed.And with that, the day was over and I thought to myself, there’s no way I’m gonna be able to top that. Brent EF3 - Mile Wide Tornado Damage 4K Celton Henderson 2021-04-19 | While making my way back home after a storm chase in Mississippi, I decided to get some footage of the damage produced by a mile wide wedge tornado from the previous day. This Tornado tracked through rural Alabama through parts of the towns of Sawyerville, Brent, Centreville, Calera, Ashby, and Columbiana. This significant tornado was on the ground for 98 minutes, was more then a mile wide, and produced mid range EF3 damage, prompting rare Tornado Emergencies to be issued. Alabama TORNADO and Insane Supercells - High Risk Day 3-17-21 Celton Henderson 2021-03-30 | On March 17, 2021 an extremely volatile atmosphere was in place over the southeastern United States. The conditions were extremely favorable for rotating thunderstorms called supercells to form over the states of Alabama and Mississippi. These storms are responsible for the majority of the worlds violent tornadoes. The Storm Prediction Center took note of the extremely volatile conditions in place and issued a rare High Risk of severe weather including a 45% hashed area for significant tornadoes, the highest I had ever chased in. In this video you can see 3 of these supercells, one of which dropped several tornadoes in extremely close proximity to my location. My First Tornado 4K Celton Henderson 2021-03-24 | This is the first Tornado I've seen in person. After about a year of trying I finally succeeded and captured my first Tornado in the outskirts of Tuscaloosa, AL on March 17, 2021. This Tornado was only on the ground for a few minutes but in that time it inflicted some EF-1 damage to a community around Lake Wildwood. Wall Cloud, Lightning, and Small Hail from Florida Supercell 4K Celton Henderson 2021-02-24 | On February 14th 2021 the atmosphere was supportive of severe thunderstorms over central Florida, including the risk for a few rotating thunderstorms called Supercells. The Storm Prediction Center issued a Slight risk for my neck of the woods and the chase was on. Chasing a TORNADO Warned Storm in Central Florida Celton Henderson 2021-02-11 | February 6th, 2021An interesting severe weather setup was in place over central Florida exactly one year to the day of my first storm chase. This video depicts our encounter and pursuit of a Tornadic Supercell thunderstorm that tracked through Seminole County with a funnel cloud being reported. I was unable to confirm the existence of the funnel but did observe several suspicious lowerings under a rotating base. Later that night I was able to capture some interesting bolts over lake Monroe.
