SMS2 (short for Small Multitasking System 2) is a multitasking operating system developed by Tony Tebby (QJUMP Ltd.) in the early 1990s and published by a company called FURST Ltd. in 1993.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SMS2
Tony Tebby is probably best known for having initiated the development of the operating system codenamed Domesdos for the Sinclair ZX83 project in 1982/1983 at Sinclair Research Ltd.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tony_Tebby
The ZX83 project became launched as the Sinclair QL Professional Computer on 1984-01-12; the QL's OS was named eventually named QDOS (later on renamed to Qdos).
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sinclair_QL
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sinclair_QDOS
After the Sinclair QL was declared EOL in spring 1986, some small teams including former Sinclair engineers formed and continued to develop the OS. First offspring was Minerva. QDOS and Minerva are version 1 of the OS.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minerva_(QDOS_reimplementation)
Then was SMS2. This is version 2 of the OS.
The most advanced member of QDOS compatible operating systems is SMSQ/E (basically this is SMS2 plus full QL compatibility plus the Minerva MultiBASIC). This is version 3 of the OS. SMSQ/E is still being developed.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SMSQ/E

- QL/E v3.20.
- QL Forum thread "SMSQ/2 on Atari": qlforum.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=3646
Outlook:
- Upgrade ROMs of the ATARI 1040STF or use another ST with TOS 1.04.
- Try to create a SMS "QLWA" harddrive partition with SMSQ/E and install QL/E on it.

Saturday, foggy weather, perfect time to spend some hours with my QLs. One of the topics today: The 1987 SANDY SuperQBoard (SQB) with SuperMouse. Runs nicely QRAM with the original supplied SuperMouse 1.10 Floppy Disk. But can it run QL/E using QL-SD? And what was SANDY all about? Plus, how is the design of the SANDY SuperQBoard Mouse?
