Local Support Group Available to Women with Ovarian Cancer Latest TV 2024-05-04 | Di Shipley, the Co-founder of the Ovarian Cancer Support Group talks to Latest TV about the reasons why she founded the group and the support it offers to women diagnosed with ovarian cancer in Sussex. Fellow member, Sue Meek, talks about her experiences of diagnosis and treatment and how the support group helps women who have been diagnosed with ovarian cancer.Di Shipley, a former senior probation officer, Julie Bowden an Argentine Tango teacher and Delilah Hesling a former nurse with over 20 years’ experience, set up an ovarian cancer support group last year after meeting during treatment for the condition at the Royal Sussex University Hospital.Di says:“We’re all part of this exclusive club that no one would chose to be a member of, but we have found great comfort meeting every month and from sharing our thoughts and feelings with others in the same situation. We have gathered a wealth of information about treatments and ways of coping with side effects for example to share so even if people can’t meet in person we’d encourage you to get in touch.“We want to ensure that everyone who could benefit from this type of support knows how to find it.“We have plans to get on the radio and local TV and are working with The Trust for Developing Communities (TDC) in Brighton in order to reach diverse communities as well as with Macmillan’s primary care nurse facilitators working with GP surgeries throughout the county.” Delilah who leads the patient support group at Macmillan Horizon Centre in Brighton adds:“We are pleased with the way our group has grown and developed over the short time we have been meeting but know that there may be more people suffering in silence in our community and want to make sure we reach them all. Everyone affected by ovarian cancer is welcome to join the group no matter what your age, cultural background, or sexual identity.”Julie who had to give up her career as a travel agent and tree surgeon as well as her role at The Appropriate Adult Service (TAAS), continues to teach the Argentine Tango in Hove said:“Ovarian cancer is notoriously difficult to diagnose so most people discover they have it by accident and often when the disease is quite advanced. We were all diagnosed with stage 3 cancer, so our treatment and prognoses have been quite challenging. I have now started a trial at Guys hospital in London and Delilah is waiting to discover what treatment options remain open to her. We know we are not alone in receiving this type of news which is why we want to ensure others can access the support we have given each other and have found so helpful.“Our friends and families have been great but sometimes it’s really helpful to talk with people going through the same thing as you as these conversations can be franker and more honest which those close to you can find hard to handle. With Spring approaching we plan to organise some days out so we can have fun too! Raegen is a former aid worker for a humanitarian organisation, and her exhibition aims to show the humanity in Ukraine, whilst it marks the second anniversary of the war. Raegen is from Burgess Hill and her exhibition is being displayed in Brighton. Raegan explained that her work in Ukraine and Poland and Ukraine included documenting the lives of refugees fleeing the country. With a video installation she depicts a 22-hour train journey looking out on the “bleak but beautiful” landscape of Ukraine.

However, after a rival comes forward claiming to have accomplished the same feat, Mercedes is forced into battle to retain her record and her legacy. Surfers Against Sewage Protest in Kingston Beach Latest TV 2024-03-11 | Environmental campaigners Surfers Against Sewage (SAS) organised a protest at Kingston Beach to call for an immediate end to sewage dumping at a popular Southwick swimming spot. Southern Water has been dumping untreated wastewater for nearly 200 hours since Christmas, estimated to be enough to fill over 3 Olympic swimming pools. Approximately 2000 people got sick in 2023 due to this issue. Brighton Half Marathon 2024 Latest TV 2024-03-11 | On February 25th, 2024, Brighton burst into action with the Rubix VT Brighton Half Marathon, celebrating its 34th year anniversary. A very forgiven weather with some hint of wind welcomed runners of all ages starting with the Youth Race, followed by the Wheelchair race, and then the main event kicked off with a bang, courtesy of rugby legend Gareth Thomas CBE!The course was a tour de Brighton, passing by iconic spots like the Brighton Palace Pier, the Royal Pavilion, The Hilton Brighton Metropole Hotel, and the vibrant beach huts of Hove seafront. With cheers echoing through the air, runners dashed past, fueled by the electric atmosphere.Winners In the wheelchair race, Illias Zghoundi took first place in the men's race with a time of 1 hour 5 minutes and 3 seconds, with the women's race being won by Claudia Burrough who set a new course record finishing in 1 hour 5 minutes and 33 seconds. In the men’s race, Marshall Smith took first place with a time of 1 hour, 7 minutes and 17 seconds; second place went to Matthew Merrick who came home in 1 hour 7 minutes and 28 seconds; third place went to Cal Mills who finished in 1 hour, 7 minutes and 29 seconds.The women’s race Cassie Thorp, who set a new course record, finishing in 1 hour, 15 minutes and 34 seconds, followed by Molly Smith in 1 hour 15 minutes and 49 seconds. Third place went to Henrietta Tarasewicz in 1 hour, 20 minutes and 42 seconds.As the day came to a close, it wasn't just about the miles conquered—it was about the community coming together to support The Sussex Beacon and countless other charities. EV Rally Launch Event 2024 Latest TV 2024-02-13 | The Launch event of the London to Brighton Electric Vehicle Rally 2024 exceeded expectations. On the 4th year, the pioneering EV Rally has now confirmed its presence as a permanent feature of Brighton's summer. This year's event, happening on the 22nd of June, is expecting at least 100 vehicles, 35k visitors on Madeira Drive, and an additional 40 drivers will join the rally from France. Food Coop Petition Latest TV 2023-11-03 | East Brighton Food Cooperative has launched a petition to make community meals on wheels a statutory service for vulnerable people unable to access a fresh, nutritious daily meal. According to the already busy charity, this would save billions of pounds in costs to the NHS and adult social care by addressing the costs associated with malnutrition and related illnesses. Additionally, it would improve health outcomes while combating loneliness and social isolation. Fatboyslim at the Prince Albert Latest TV 2023-10-31 | Grassroots venues are at the very core of music research and development, and one of the main reasons why Brighton is on the world map. So, when an iconic venue like the Prince Albert is at risk because of the usual developers in the area, it takes no less than international superstar DJ Norman Cook, Fatboy Slim, to come in support of the venue and play a secret gig on a Monday night at the Albert. Backed up by nevertheless 15K signatures collected in only 3 days on the online petition and over a thousand private written complaints directly to the Council.
