Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition | RX 6800 Ray Tracing | Linux (RADV) vs WindowsArunkumar Bupathy2023-09-09 | Needless to say, the one on the left is Linux (Ubuntu 22.04, with Mesa 23.2.0-rc3 via the ernstp/mesarc ppa). Pay attention to the CPU usage and GPU clock speed at the start (plugged) vs unplugged at around 00:35. P# are the standard Zen 5 cores and E# are the Zen 5c (efficiency) cores.
Depending on the game tested, it gains about 2-5% FPS when unplugged! This is on a fresh (re)install of Windows 11 with the Asus provided Chipset and GPU drivers, on the latest BIOS version. Note that Memory Integrity and Virtual Machine Platform have been turned off for the test. I've verified that windows power plan was the same (Balanced) on both, and the test was done after the processor settled down to its long time power limit, which I set to 17W. But the behavior is still there (albeit less noticeable) no matter what settings, drivers (Asus supplied vs generic AMD), or power plans you use, as long as they are the same plugged vs unplugged.Cherry BlossomsArunkumar Bupathy2024-04-07 | A windy road with cherry blossom canopy? IMO, they should have included options to lower the ray count and the bounces in the graphics menu, which is what the RT Overdrive Optimizations mod does. I don't think that anyone would have complained.
Anyway, the game is too ambitious for it's own good. Wish they had delivered on the exploration and side quests more than the shiny reflections. Even the main story line is too scripted, and the character development is patchy at best. Coming from the Witcher 3, this game feels almost lifeless, unless you're looking out of the window of your car.
Note: The massive stutters you see are only in this recording, not experienced in game.Control - Ray Tracing on RX 6800 in Linux with RADV and FSR 2 injection!Arunkumar Bupathy2023-09-08 | With the native HDR mod for Control, you can inject FSR 2 via the CyberFSR2 mod. I am getting about 75% of Windows performance, on my RX 6800 running on the latest Mesa version obtained via the ernstp ppa. RADV is truly rad!
The CyberFSR2 page has link to the HDR mod and some instructions. To enroll the registry key that enables FSR, I had to run this in the terminal: env WINEPREFIX=$STEAM_LIBRARY/compatdata/870780/pfx $STEAM_LIBRARY/common/Proton\ -\ Experimental/files/bin/wine regedit $STEAM_LIBRARY is the path to your steamapps folder. 870780 is the steam id for Control and may be different in your case.
Also, I think the native HDR mod caused my game to crash to the desktop, coz there is no Linux HDR support yet. I believe adding this to the renderer.ini (in the game binary folder) should fix it: "m_eAllowHDR": 0Control - Max Ray Tracing | RX 6800 | HDR Mod + CyberFSR2Arunkumar Bupathy2023-09-07 | Control with max RT on an AMD GPU? Yes! You need the Control native HDR mod and the CyberFSR2 mod. Do read the compatibility list in the CyberFSR2 page, which has some instructions! I'm not joking. I wouldn't recommend playing with these settings, but the visuals are transformative and are to be experienced for oneself. Screencaps or youtube videos simply don't do justice to the realism brought about by full path tracing.Dead Space Remake | RX 6800 | 1440p Native w. RT ReflectionsArunkumar Bupathy2022-12-31 | This is one of the few games where ray traced reflections make sense given its cyberpunk theme. I believe that one can live with the frame rate dips into the 50s and the shimmer from FSR 2.Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition | RX 6800 | High RT 1440p NativeArunkumar Bupathy2022-12-30 | This was the worst case scenario I found in Metro Exodus, where the frame time graph is jumping around a lot. With raytracing set to high, the game is above 60fps for the most part. I believe that this is one of the few games that gets ray traced global illumination right, and it does transform the experience for the better.Control - Ray Tracing | RX 6800 | 1440p Native w. Transparent ReflectionsArunkumar Bupathy2022-12-30 | The best way to experience ray tracing in Control on AMD GPUs is to only turn on the transparency reflections. Well... As long as I don't move my mouse that is. It seems any input from the mouse causes spikes in the CPU time, which is otherwise comfortably less than 33ms. Personally, I can play with the framerate hovering around 26 - 27 fps, but the CPU spikes cause extremely bad frame pacing. No amount of tweaking the settings or putting an fps cap relieves this. I saved myself some frustration and uninstalled this game...Rise of the Tomb Raider on Radeon R9 M265X (HD 8850M)Arunkumar Bupathy2018-07-05 | Performance of the Rise of the Tomb Raider on a stock R9 M265x (8850m) / i7 4500u. Game plays better without recording, of course.

Looks better in my opinion. The Witcher 3 - Yennefer and Geralt run into the Wild Hunt - Radeon R9 M265x (8850m)Arunkumar Bupathy2016-09-17 | This hopefully shows how The Witcher 3 runs on an overclocked AMD Radeon 8850m / R9 M265X and a Core i7 4500u.
