I recently gave block printing a go and found that I needed a small gouge. The carving chisels I already own don't include a small enough gouge - a 4mm was the smallest. So I decided to give making my own a go. They turned out a bit rustic looking but they work very well indeed and they are definitely worth making.
I didn't do a great job of tempering the blades as I took them a little too far - stopping at straw is where I should've been but ended up at purple/blue. Tempering in the oven would've been a much better option for these small blades. I'm sure they will still be fine though, I've already used them a fair bit and they're holding an edge nicely.
I hope you enjoy the video and as always I'm happy to answer any questions.

I'm super pleased with it as it works exactly how I hoped it would and makes the drill press a safer machine. It's quick and easy to set which I reckon makes it a winner. If something is easy to use then it will get used.
Hopefully it inspires you to make one for yourself. If you do, there would be many ways to do it, not just by machining. You could fabricate one or even make one out of wood.

When I saw one of Nick Schade's wooden kayak seats I had to make one for my kayak, it's a beautiful design. I reckon it would also make a great seat for a stool or chair. One thing I meant to mention in the video but forgot, was some of the grain of the wooden pieces running in opposite directions isn't ideal. As this seat will be fibreglassed it will be stabilised and wood movement won't be an issue.

When I mentioned it to Corin he was super keen so we started to plan it. We only had 2 weeks which stretched a couple of days over that and I milled the timber before hand. Even though I think we did very well and had a great time. We didn't manage to finish mine but I'm keen to get to it soon and I still need to work out whether to finish the deck with kumiko or not. I'm really unsure how to make it into another video without covering what we've already shown but I'll have a think about it and see what I can work out.
If you interested in building a kayak yourself then check out Nicks channel which shows how to build a kayak in far more detail than what we've shown in this video youtube.com/c/NickSchade
A big thanks to Darcy at Mooloo Timbers for his help. He has all sorts of interesting timber and ships across Australia. Here's the link https://www.moolootimberco.com.au
Also a big thanks to Klingspor for providing the sanding pads which were awesome and highly recommended.

It was one of my favourite projects to make. I was going to make the video in three parts, you would've got the second part much earlier but many of you showed a preference to single videos so I finished it in this second part.

I really enjoyed the project so far. The next part will get interesting with the moving parts, that all have to work together. It's definitely going to be a challenge but hopefully it works out.

Pask Makes P.O BOX 768 Yandina Queensland 4561 AustraliaHow to make Kumiko from NailsPask Makes2022-03-06 | I'm not sure if this was a good idea but it's something I've been thinking about and had to give it a try. I was originally going to use round bar but the thinnest I could find was 6mm (1/4") so then I thought about nails which I reckon would work out cheaper. Let me know what you think. :)

This wasn't originally intended to be a video but I thought the improved processes were worth sharing. Please let me know of any other improvements I should introduce if I ever make more of them.

I've looked at these star pickets over the years and wondered what I could make from them and as I needed to make some shop stools, I thought they'd make interesting legs.

This was a great project to start the new year. I was excited about it as soon as the design came together and I really enjoyed figuring out how to make the corners.

I should've mentioned in the video that if you don't have access to a milling machine with a slitting saw I'd just manage with an angle grinder. I'd clamp a guide to keep the cut square. A diamond cut off wheel should be about 1.5mm and would be a good option.
Have a great Christmas and I'll see you in the New Year.

This project was a challenge by John Heisz to make his ultimate clamps and do something unique with them. I'm not sure I succeeded but had a great time with it anyway. I'd say John's original wooden clamps would be much better being lighter but these will look interesting displayed in the workshop and I may actually use them once in a while.
