They spend the winter in Mollens above Sierre and now they move on their traditionnal transhumance to the mountains above Vercorin on the other side of the valley... Even though R8 has no IBIS , but lens has IS plus R8 has digital video IS , it is rather stable even at 800mm for handheld video, also because of the slowmotion shooting and lightweight of that lens. Lowlight video test LAOWA RF 28mm 1.2 on Canon EOS R6 Olivier Staiger 2023-04-07 | Testing low light capability of new lensLAOWA ARGUS 28mm f/1.2 Camera : Canon EOS R6All filmed handheld, first scene without IBIS , then all other scenes with IBIS. Filmed in 1080p FHD . 4K will have a tiny crop. Framerate : 24 fpsAperture : lens wide open at f/1.2Neutral picture style with reduced contrast, colour saturationAWB ( usually I would set it to 3200K but I forgot to do so, but it turned out okay )Shutter Speed : ideally in daytime video when you shoot 24fps you would shoot 1/48sec shutter speed , or 1/50 since that camera does not offer 1/48. But since we have to gain as much light as possible, and since nightsky does usually not move fast, I would shoot at 1/25th of a second which makes me gain a full aperture of light. And , to complete the test, I also shoot in fps override with 1/15th of a second instead of 1/25th, to gather even more light. ISO : First two scenes at 20'000 , then two at 16'000 and finally two at 12'800.No edit at all ( NOT shot in log ) .It was at night and you can see stars but it was not pitchblack because this was almost Full Moon. ( it was 1 day after Full Moon ). . This is to test and see if that lens can be used to shoot video of northern lights. Looking good. I also have the Laowa Argus RF 35mm f/0.95, so that is even slightly faster, but it is not as wide as the 28mm. Ultimately the widest/fastest I do on R6 is to use a Sigma 20mm f/1.4 with a Viltrox speedbooster EF-R3 x0.71 , shoot in 1.6 crop mode , resulting in 23mm f/1.0 . Or even shoot in Full sensor mode then it turns out as a 14mm f/1.0 however with huge vignetting dark ring but that is not necessarily a problem or can be edited in post. Conclusion : the Sony a7s2 is still king of extreme low light but the R6 comes close, and I certainly prefer Canon's colours ( when shooting northern lights the Sony a7s gives me too much green for my taste, even if I reduce saturation and contrast in picture profile ). Another combo I'll test at night is using Samyang XP 14mm f/2.4 with a speedbooster, giving me 10mm f/1.7 with vignetting or 16mm f/1.7 in crop 1.6 mode. Now it has been removed and the tunnel is accessible. But another tree blocks the rest of the road after the tunnel. The road is not closed to traffic but has no winter service so if there is lots of snow it is not accessible. the tunnel is at 1287m above Sea level elevation.from where I had to stop because of that tree, the road continues for about 550m and then ends.

Bearded Vulture Epic Fight Olivier Staiger 2023-03-27 | two majestic Bearded Vultures fighting mid-air. Probably territorial dispute, as one is an adult ( yellow body ) and the other , darker one, is a juvenile... The adult is nesting a few miles away, hence the aggressive attitude. Bearded vultures are the biggest birds in the swiss Alps, with 2.8m wingspan. They had been extinct because of stupid humans.... but luckily they have been re-intoduced by the VCF Vulture Conservation Foundation, with a complex and decades-long re-introduction program.
