1) What were the animals eating that will still be in the manure (Round Up Ready hay/straw)
2) was it sprayed with pestacides....or herbacides
if they were eating Round Up Ready Wheat which was made into straw/hay and then it is now in their manure and you put it in your garden, your plants will likely die. The pestacides/herbacides just don't magically dissapear once it is eaten by an animal...the animal absorbs the herbacide/pestacide (and then we do if we eat that animal but that's a different story) but some comes through into the manure. Know were your manure comes from ... if you don't then you take a chance on using compost whic will kill your whole garden.
Does not work for chemical pollutants.

SHADE is most imporant...along with a way to attach that Shade to the sand/ground...
You can find these types of 'tent' outdoor covers almost everywhere...we have 5 of them because we keep buying them at Estate Sales...some have bottoms, but I prefer just the sand...make sure the tent has SPF protection and isn't just a tent. I did a review on one (with a bottom) several years ago, here is a current tent on Amazon: amzn.to/42P5ZfY
and here is the review of the Solar Setup...I actually own 2 of these now (plus 2 goal zero):

Technically, ricotta could be considered a cheese byproduct. The word ricotta means recooked in Italian....so we are re "cooking" the protein in whey to make an unripened cheese....here's how:
Ricotta from Whey
Old School Prepper
www.youtube.com/@OldSchoolPrepper
Recipe adapted from WWW.cheese52.com
Leftover whey from cheese making using 1 gallon of milk (approx ¾ of a gallon of whey)
Put into a heavy bottom pan
Heat to 200F (93C)
Once you’ve come to temperature add in ¼ cup of Vinegar (any type of 5%), Stir
Let sit for 5 minutes
Mix and pour through cheesecloth, muslin, linen etc. Let strain (this can take an hour or so)
Put Ricotta into a container, add a dash of whey/milk or cream and add salt to taste. Since the whey has come from previous cheese making it may already be salted enough.

where to buy rennet: amzn.to/4bLVsq5
1 gallon milk (I used homogonized/pasturized milk not the best choice but it worked!)
1 ½ Tsp citric acid into 1 cup non-chlorinated, room temp water
½ tsp (2.5ml) rennet into ½ cup non-chlorinated, room temp water
Into a heavy bottom pot pour in citric acid and water
Quickly add in cold milk (this will mix the citric acid and milk together)
Heat to 90F (32C)
Once temp is reached pour in rennet/water mixture and stir for 30 seconds
Turn off heat. Cover and let rest for 5 minutes
After 5 mins check to see if curd has formed, if not let rest another 5 minutes, if yes cut the curd into 1 inch cubes
Heat cheese & whey from 90 to 110F (43C) gently stirring, from outside in, while heating
Once temp is reached turn off heat, cover and let rest for 5 minutes
Remove curds and place into a bowl, drain any excess whey back into whey pot
Heat whey to between 175-190F (79-87C); add the ½ C salt to water now

Begin to stretch the mozzarella (be careful this is HOT) use gloves if needed!
Stretch mozzarella in small batches…adding back into the hot whey to keep the cheese pliable and stretchable. Pull at least 3 times, each handful of cheese and then add back to whey and take another handful of cheese.
Stretch and mold and pull and tuck into balls…each ball should be stretched 3 times eac time it is picked up. Working the ball should finish sometime between the 3rd and 5th time it is stretched and tucked. Once it is shiny, smoother and seems right it is done
You will know when it’s right, the cheese changes and goes from stringy and rough looking to smoother and better. Once you know what it feels like you will never forget….give yourself some time…and watch the video a few times. You will get it!
1 used 1 gallon of milk. Some citric acid and rennet…it cost approx .20 an ounce of finished cheese to make. Out of 1 gallon of milk, I got 20 ounces of cheese. I also had a lot of leftover whey which I made into ricotta…different video though. Check it out.
I tried to compare to hand made cheese in the deli however I could not find any…the closest I could find was some machine made mozz in a small container with whey and that was $1 an ounce.
I believe this is very cost effective and wonderful to make. I have made this recipe several times now and will continue to do so. This would be especially wonderful if I had fresh dairy milk. This should work with milk from any animal. It will NOT work with nut milks nor with Ultra High Pasteurized Milk Finally this is how I make mozzarella…it is a recipe I cobbled together with help from Cheese52 and several other cheese makers on Youtube. I am not a cheese making professional nor actually any type of professional. Make at your own risk…it’s really pretty good.
He knows I garden and said he had some extra space or me to do some growing...but he added A WATERING SYSTEM! JUST FOR ME! who does that? He is such a great guy. You can use store bought milk, pasturized and/or homogenized, UHP (ultra High Pasturized will not work as the proteins in the milk will no coagulate).
Here is the recipe with impotant info below:
1/2 gallon milk (2 liters)
1/2 cup vinegar (any kind, 5% acidity) I used white vinegar (or citric acid)
Salt to taste (1/4 cup is good)
pour milk into heavy bottom pan.
heat to milk to 120F (49C)
add in vinegar (or citric acid): turn off heat
stir for 30 seconds
let sit for approx 5 minutes
whey and curds will seperate, collect all the cheese curds into a strainer
or colandar (one that can fit back inside the whey pot)
lift colandar/strainer out of whey and press with a strong spatula/spoon
mold over itself and press down, mold and press for 30 seconds.
turn back on heat under whey, heat to about 150 or more
put cheese (inside of stainer/colander) back into hot whey until heated all the way through. Lift out and press/mold again for a minute. Repeat at least 5 times.
After 3rd time try and see if the mozzarella will stetch (you will need to use your hands for this). Once the cheese will stretch well and you can form it into a ball with a shiny outside the mozzarella is done.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
I have 2 different versions of making Mozzarella...this is the easy way with ingredients you have at home (milk, vinegar, salt) while this is straight forward, there is a more complicated way to make Mozz with rennet and citric acid (in place of vinegar either will work) and more more steps.
I would start with this recipe and it you become very interested in cheese making move onto Mozzarella Technical #2 (video out in a week). Both make great mozz, I would say Technical #2 makes a smoother cheese with a couple more ounces of finsihed cheese.
Is it worth the extra steps? You tell me...try both and see. I may do a head to head and measure all the results, costs and time in the future. But for now this is a good and easy way to make cheese. This came out to be approx 0.17/Ounce, store bought cow milk mozzeralla in the deli was $1/oz.

Farmers cheese (Paneer cheese)...take an extra step and make Neufchâtel/cream cheese
what i used for straining: a nut milk bag: amzn.to/4bLVAWB
Heat 1 gallon whole milk (UltraHigh Pasteurized milk will NOT work) 3.78 Liters
Heat to just shy of boiling 170F/75C
Turn off the heat and stir in 1/2 cup of vinegar 118ml (or lemon juice)
Stir and allow to curdle, if it does not seem to curdle then add a bit more vinegar
Curd will separate from whey
Add cheese cloth (or linen, muslin or flour sack etc) to a colander, pour cheese mixture into cheese cloth, which has lined the colander. Allow to strain, keep whey for other use (like baking)
While cheese is in the linen cloth, squeeze until you only have cheese left. I like to leave it in the bag and in the colander with a weight on top. Once it’s fully drained, Open bag and mix in 1 tsp to 1 tbsp of salt, stir and enjoy.
If you would like to take this cheese and whip it (in a blender or food processor) for 3-5 mins or so you will end up with a Neufchâtel cheese very very similar to cream cheese.

We bought this 1970's slicer from FB Market Place. While is was a few hundred dollars it has paid for itself in a years time. Well Worth the $. If you can't afford this slicer, perhaps your friend or family member has one you can use? and there is always just using a knife....electric knives work really well at slicing large amounts of meat and cheese
