VerdegrandHi, this is my piano arrangement of "Dark Sun Gwyndolin" from Dark Souls, composed by Motoi Sakuraba. This is also the theme of the Moonlight Butterfly.
This is a very interesting track, because, despite it's deceptive simplicity, it contains so many different emotions. I feel like it's one of those pieces that are both melancholic on the one hand, and serene and tranquil on the other, at the same time. The melancholy is so strong that the tranquility can be interpreted as its final stage, similar to how you find this in some of Schubert's more somber songs. This makes a lot of sense because the parts of the game where you hear this aren't exactly giving you a pat on your back for what you 'accomplish', instead they make you question your actions because you might start to feel bad for what you are doing.
The artist who drew the artwork wanted to remain anonymous.

Thank you. pastebin.com/eVLYkTjTPhantasy Star III Ending Medley - PianoVerdegrand2023-02-03 | These are three pieces from the ending sequence of Phantasy Star III, composed by Izuho Numata “IPPO“.
Very beautiful music, I particularly like the piece in the middle. As with the last few videos, make sure to listen to the original. The composer uses the sound chip of the Genesis in a really nice way.
As I wrote in an earlier video, I came across his Phantasy Star remixes and have felt inspired by them a lot, so it‘s a pleasure to present a collaboration between us: A remix of one of my favorite themes from the soundtrack, the Overworld Theme. As I wrote back then, I appreciate him for the passion and effort he puts into his work, and I‘m really happy with this collaboration. Please make sure to subscribe to him.
Check out the original track(s), it‘s really unique as it adds a musical layer for every member that joins your party. I think I only know of Dragon Quest IV that does something similar (do you know another?). Also the soundtrack has a seperate theme for when the party leader dies. Unique stuff and I love it.
Mastered by Erwin Maas (eMastering), thank you very much.
Again a nice use of the Genesis sound chip by the composer, make sure to listen to the original track. It sounds nice on piano but I thought that Church Organ would be more fitting for this, also considering the context of the track within the soundtrack.
I dedicate this video to @Aeroprism, a Phantasy Star remixer who has been at it for more than 20 years. Randomly came across his videos and felt very inspired by him. I liked how personal his remixes and videos are, and how he keeps doing it over decades out of a personal motivation. My favorites are “Dreaming in Cryosleep“, “Access Denied“, and “Generations of Fate“ (which is his arrangement of this Opening Theme). He‘s basically the reason why I‘ve been working on a few Phantasy Star III arrangements lately. Also, look out for a collaboration between us soon.
This is one of my favorite JRPG main themes. Make sure to check out the original, I really like how the composer uses the sound chip of the console, it sets such a nice tone for the story and it‘s a very emotional theme.

This is one of my favorite VGM tracks of all time and I have been wanting to make a video of this for over six years. The appeal of this track might be hard to put in words for people who have not played this game. It‘s similar to how the Resident Evil Save Room Themes feel in terms of peace and safety, however this one also has a sense of longing and uneasiness to it that never resolves, a neverending circle of emotional states, and that is expressed beautifully in an amazing chord progression.
The game features two versions of it: "Maiden in Black", an orchestral version that plays in the central hub area and features silence between the chords, and then an unnamed and unreleased electronic arrangement heard during the game‘s save file menu and character creation screen. This arrangement is a combination of both of them. It was inspired by the long YouTube videos that feature the same track on repeat for many loops, because this is definitely a contender for such a treatment, and I listened to it myself in such a manner. So I made the extended and evolving arrangement that I would have liked to listen to myself.

Today ten years ago I created my YouTube account. I would like to thank everyone who is still around, who still watches my videos, who still believes in me and who still supports me after the many bad times. Needless to say the last ten years didn't go as I would have liked them to go, but all I can say now is that in the grand scheme of things, I am on a good path.
This track is pretty much the definition of nostalgia - it's one of those rare pieces that ooze with that emotion from the get-go. I think a lot of that might be lost when not having the original instruments which really, IMHO, make this track. The entire OST is very special to me and considering the occasion, I felt it was about time I started playing more of it.Verdegrand: Cosmic Flower MeadowVerdegrand2019-06-10 | Hi, here‘s my second electronic track, "Cosmic Flower Meadow". It‘s a hybrid of what I would call Trance and piano/guitar instrumentals. This time there‘s also a beat, so I‘m definitely progressing.
This one was very hard to make, as I‘m still struggling to get a grasp on some basic stuff that‘s still giving me a hard time. Working with so many tracks is something else entirely, coming from a background of solo instrumental music. But I think, considering I‘m still fairly new to all this, I can be quite happy with how it turned out, if not to say I‘m pleasantly surprised about how I found it in myself to create this kind of music. Gonna take some time to learn more stuff before my third track, and also want to look into different styles. Let me know what you think, and if you like it, I‘d appreciate if you‘d share it with people who you think might enjoy this. Thank you for watching.

My social media: twitter.com/verdegrand facebook.com/Verdegrand-193964000646157Verdegrand: Enchanted DystopiaVerdegrand2019-05-24 | Hello everyone, I‘ve been meaning to get into electronic music for a very long time, and in the past couple of months I started to actually experiment with it. Here‘s my first track, "Enchanted Dystopia“. Took me over a month to make it because I had to learn a lot of basic stuff. This track doesn‘t have a beat yet but that‘s gonna happen in the next ones.
While I will keep making piano videos, I want to make more of these for a while so that I can learn some more basics. As far as VGM and piano is concerned, I‘m really enjoying the soundtrack of Sekiro. It has a couple of really interesting pieces that I would like to arrange, but that‘s gonna take some time. It‘s also quite different from earlier SoulsBorne music so it‘s challenging to arrange.
I have been enjoying Sekiro a lot and would like to get back into streaming with it as well. I haven‘t been streaming much ever since my mistakes of 2016 but I think I‘m slowly getting more interested in getting back into it because I have a couple of ideas for that game. I‘ll let you know more as soon as I feel comfortable with it.
I haven't played this game, but from what I can see, it would probably be one of my main reasons to get a Switch if it comes to that. Heard a lot of good things about the soundtrack, so I took a listen, and have felt very impressed with it. Reminds me a lot of Suikoden music in its feel and use of instruments. Special thanks to subversiveasset for recommending this particular track to me.
There is a chance you're gonna see audio-only uploads from me more frequently this year, because this is much better to work with and it allows me to make these arrangements in a way that is better suited for the current circumstances.
This was arranged and recorded in May 2018.

This recording is from 2017, and I still used my old setup. If you remember, it's the first thing I uploaded when I came back to making piano videos on YouTube so it kinda makes me nostalgic a little bit. Feels like I've come quite a way ever since then even though it feels like it was yesterday.

I‘ve been looking forward to this particular reupload, because this track has become one of my all time favorites. There‘s just something magical about the original piece, and I am so grateful for having discovered this soundtrack. Etrian Odyssey has been one of the few franchises that I have actively followed over the years, even though I‘ve fallen behind with actually playing them. But the soundtracks are amongst my favorite VGM ever, and I am really looking forward to arranging a lot more of it in the future. I would also like to make another recording of this piece at some point, because I have come to love it very much.

My social media: twitter.com/verdegrand facebook.com/Verdegrand-193964000646157Final Fantasy IX: Rose of May - Piano and Heavy Metal cover (collaboration with Ferdk)Verdegrand2018-12-22 | This is "Rose of May" from Final Fantasy IX, composed by Nobuo Uematsu. The piano part was arranged and performed by myself, and the Heavy Metal part was arranged and performed by Ferdk:
This one is special. Back in 2011, we talked to each other about making a collaboration. He recorded his part and sent it to me. Then, as you know, my situation got worse over time until I stopped uploading altogether in the end of 2011. That situation made me repeatedly postpone my part, and I never recorded it. I explained everything to him and he said that we'll just finish this as soon as I am ready. So I recently got back in touch with him, and to my amazement he still had the project and audio files, and he did not finish this project by himself or with someone else over the years. Unfortunately, his video recordings were lost to an old hard drive, which is why you don't see him play in this video. But with his audio, we were now able to finally conclude the project as such, and I am very happy about this.
(For this reupload, I decided to remove the video recording because I found it too distracting that you would not see him play. The original video is still where I uploaded this first, as an unlisted video.)
Over the years, I would frequently pull out the files he sent me and listen to them, and I looked forward to completing this some day. Making this track was an interesting journey for me, because today I arranged my piano part very differently from how I would have arranged it seven years ago. I respect him a lot for waiting for me all these years and for taking the time to finish this now, so I ask you to please support him every way you can.
This track was very interesting to arrange. I've always enjoyed this music, but honestly there were other tracks from the OST that I would prefer listening to when I had the chance. However, once I started arranging this, I found that there is much more going on than I would realilze when I usually listened to this, and that there is a lot of depth in this music that I had to discover by actually playing it myself. Now it feels like the music tells a story by outlining its emotional fragments. If you know the story of Dark Souls, you know that there's a lot to tell when it comes to this part of it. To me, that's what elevates this track above a regular boss theme. I've talked about this elsewhere, that I consider the music of Dark Souls to be a part of its world building. It would be interesting to know how much information about the game and story Sakuraba had before composing this, and if he consciously incorporated elements of that into it. To me, this track doesn't even sound like a boss theme. It accompanies another one of those moments that make the player question their actions. So, after going through the arranging, I have to say that I like this piece a lot more than before.
My social media: twitter.com/verdegrand facebook.com/Verdegrand-193964000646157PUBG Theme (Early Access ver.) PIANO BATTLE ROYALEVerdegrand2018-11-27 | This is my piano arrangement of the PLAYERUNKNOWN'S BATTLEGROUNDS Theme (the third Early Access version before they changed it for 1.0 back in December 2017). I tried to find out who composed this, but couldn't find too much information on it. According to a few forum posts, the developers hired a studio to compose the track, but that studio is not named anywhere. So, uhm, I guess, COMPOSERUNKNOWN?
I arranged and recorded this in late 2017. Just when I was about to finish and upload it, I learned that they were going to change the menu theme. Was an interesting experience to keep going despite knowing that this might become obsolete. But looking back, I am happy I did it, because I personally prefer the Early Acces version over the new one. To this day I miss this theme greatly and wish they would bring it back. They occasionally use it in announcement videos on Twitter when they show new equipment and stuff.
The original is really a theme that doesn‘t get old, and it reminds me of the Unreal Tournament menu theme in its use of percussion. Likewise, the UT theme didn‘t get old either. There‘s a certain kind of atmosphere when these tracks play in the background while you are waiting to join a new game, and they became the signature sound of the experiences and franchises. In PUBG even more so, as the menu music is the only piece of music in the game. So when they changed it, it also changed the atmosphere, and it never quite felt the same again after that. So, watching and reuploading this video makes me nostalgic in a sense.
Thanks to SilentSentry and DrDisRespect for getting me interested in this game in the first place. Also special shoutout to VSNZ!
My social media: twitter.com/verdegrand facebook.com/Verdegrand-193964000646157Zelda Piano: Gerudo Valley (Ocarina of Time) Mariachi Entertainment System ver.Verdegrand2018-11-18 | Hi! This is my piano arrangement of "Gerudo Valley" from Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, originally arranged by Mariachi Entertainment System (MES). The original track was composed by Koji Kondo.
I found out about MES a while ago by coincidence, and love their videos. Their Mariachi cover of Gerudo Valley instantly fascinated me, because they made a bunch of pretty big changes – switching from 4/4 over to 6/4 and transposing it to g minor. I usually don't like covers that change the original in such a manner, but in this case I really fell in love with their version, thinking to myself that this is a really great realization of something that is in the theme and could not be brought out in any other way. I listened to it so much that I just had to play it myself.
Making the piano arrangement was very tricky and I had to do go for a bunch of compromises, in particular I had to slow it down a little bit. In the middle part I took some liberties and added some stuff of my own instead of going for those fast paced guitar riffs. This was very hard to practice and unforgiving to record, but I'm very happy with the result.
I remember playing the game in the late 90s and always coming back to that place to listen to this music. I love this piece very much and always wanted to play it on the piano, and I want to play it again in the future. When the time is right, I'll make my own piano arrangement of the original track, but that's probably gonna take a long time.
For the record, let me say again that, as I have already mentioned elsewhere, for the time being my performances are heavily edited in order to compensate for various issues and to get the best sound.
Thank you for watching!
PS: I wanted to do a tequila intro in proper style, but I think I wouldn't have made it through that, please forgive me ;)

This one took a lot more work than I had expected, and I got caught up in all kinds of little details, but it was more than worth it. Stickerbush Symphony has been requested from me ever since I started out on YouTube back in 2009, and I am so glad to finally play it, because it had been on my mind over the years, and it‘s amongst my favorite pieces of VGM ever. After I made the video of Forest Interlude a while back, I‘ve been feeling the desire to finally tackle it.
There‘s just something special about it. It plays during some of the hardest parts of the game, yet it has this very cheerful, happy feel to it. The combination of hard gameplay and the upbeat music makes for an unforgettable experience. I am sure anyone who has played the game can relate. It does such a good job of encapsulating this feeling of keeping your spirits up in the face of struggle, which makes the struggle more manageable (as did the music in these stages, as many people who have played this game will recount).
This arrangement was amongst the most complicated ones I‘ve ever made, and few others have ever given me such a challenge. You can‘t believe how relieved I am to have finished this, and how satisfying and rewarding it feels.
As I have noted elsewhere, my performances are currently edited in order to compensate for finger issues and to achieve the best possible sound.
The original composer of this track is unknown. As far as I can see, he or she isn't credited anywhere.
This was requested by my best friend. I would probably not have played this if he hadn't asked me to do it. But I have to say, even though this track is very light hearted, it grew on me as I practiced it. My first impression was that it was deceptively simple, but once I started arranging it, it showed its complexity. Very interesting track. At the same time, I am glad to have this finished, because it was super tough to get a decent recording of this, especially at this tempo.
I originally wanted to upload a new video tonight but the piece I'm currently working on ended up being a lot harder than I anticipated. I'm really enjoying the piece and want do it right, so I decided to give it some more time.
--- UPDATE 02/28/2022: Sheets have been transcribed by DJA28, check the pinned comment for more information. Thank you DJA28! ---
This piece has always been one of my favorites from the Donkey Kong Country 2 soundtrack – coupled with the stunning visuals in the Gloomy Gulch, this made for quite an experience in the late 90s. I remember how these stages blew my mind. Probably my favorite from the game (even though I found them fairly hard, phew!). Rarely seen and heard something atmospheric like this on a 16-bit system.
The arrangement and the recording was challenging to make, and I may have bitten off more than I can chew under the current circumstances, so I had to be a bit creative to bring it all together in the end. Hope you enjoy this video, and I will surely play more David Wise and Donkey Kong Country music in the future. In fact, there's another really beautiful piece from this soundtrack that's been on my mind lately.
So here‘s another anime piece. I don‘t know this anime at all, but I listened to a few tracks and this one instantly caught my attention. Couldn‘t get it out of my head. It has something addictive to it, a wave of energy that made me listen to it over and over again. I just love the way the voices work together with the music in this song. If you check out the lyrics, you‘ll realize there is somewhat of a darker undertone in there as well, which really surprised me because it‘s a contrast to the emotions of the music. Really like this stuff. So I had to play it. This one was very difficult to arrange and record, because there is so much going on. Took me a lot of work to finish it. Hope you enjoy!

My social media: twitter.com/verdegrand facebook.com/Verdegrand-193964000646157Kingdom Hearts 3: Chikai (Dont Think Twice) Piano Arrangement (Utada Hikaru)Verdegrand2018-10-04 | Hello, this is my piano arrangement of the Theme Song from Kingdom Hearts 3, originally composed by Utada Hikaru. This video is based on the Japanese version "Chikai" from her Album "Hatsukoi". The English version "Don't Think Twice" is also sung by her, but has some differences to the Japanese version. (As far as I know, there is only a short preview available of the English version at this point.)
So, with this video, I return to my roots as far as making videos on YouTube is concerned. If you remember my first activity back in 2009 on my old channel, you'll know that Kingdom Hearts music has played a big role in it. The summer of 2009 was very exciting for me, including my discovery of piano arrangements of Kingdom Hearts music that other musicians were uploading to YouTube, and then finding out about the official Piano Collections book that was released, and I was very excited, even though I didn't know much about Kingdom Hearts itself. Then I actually played Kingdom Hearts 1 that summer because I wanted to find out what these games were all about and because a few friends had repeatedly told me about these games over the years, and I got even more excited for the music. I still don't know the franchise itself too well, but because that summer was such an important experience for me, I had always wanted to get back to playing music from it over the years, and now with the impending release of Kingdom Hearts 3, it's finally a good time to do it.
The amount of work that I had to put into making this arrangement caught me off guard. At first I foolishly thought it wouldn't be much work, but then I found myself in a world of trouble. The song is actually super complex under the hood and I had to go for some compromises, both for the recording as well as for the arrangement itself. Perhaps I'll make another version sometime in the future. Hope you enjoy this anyway! Also I have some ideas for a parody or satire version of this song, but that would require me to learn some other stuff from scratch in order to pull it off.
The cutscenes that I used in this video are taken from the official Kingdom Hearts 3 trailers.
Here‘s my original piano arrangement of "Red Swan", the Season 3 OP of Shingeki no Kyojin.
It‘s been a long time ever since I‘ve played Anime music. When I started on YouTube in 2009, I wanted to play a lot more of it, but over the years I kept focusing on video game music. While I still greatly enjoy that genre, I I‘ve been feeling like playing other music as well lately.
This piece was a lot of fun to record. It‘s one of the few pieces I‘ve been playing over and over again after I finished the recording, and I still enjoy playing it greatly.
My hands haven‘t gotten much better yet but my rehabilitation is going really well. I‘m very confident about the path I‘m on.
Hello! As I wrote on my Facebook page a while ago, I still had this old recording from sometime in 2011 or 2012. Back then I wasn't too happy with it, today I think it's at least decent enough to put it out there, even though I will probably rerecord this at some point. This is among my favorite piano collections pieces.Dark Souls Character Creation Theme - piano arrangementVerdegrand2016-10-04 | This is the Character Creation Theme from Dark Souls, also called "Souls of Fire", original composer is Yuji Takenouchi. I've decided to put this here on this channel, where it belongs. I made this arrangement sometime in 2013 and recorded it in 2014, it's my last recording. This is also the only arrangement for which I ever made sheets myself, you can still find the sheet video here: youtube.com/watch?v=mhRbjt5l7KQ
And with this, I am finally done. I wanted to say one more thing to you that is really important to me. I've received numerous comments and messages in which you tell me that you feel sad or even heartbroken about what happened. I would like to say that you should please not feel that way about what happened, for me or for my piano playing. I can't go into too much detail here. but I can tell you that there are aspects to these finger problems that have eluded me in the past seven years and that I am finally beginning to unravel, and that allow me to view things from a very different perspective and to gain an understanding of a bigger context. I am very grateful for having come this far, and it is now that I have finally understood that I need to leave this behind. I don't know what the future will bring, but I am very hopeful about it and I can now close this chapter in peace and walk away from it. Again, please don't feel sad or heartbroken at all! On the contrary. Thank you and farewell.Path of Repentance (Final Fantasy X) on pianoVerdegrand2016-09-24 | HD reupload with re-edited and digitally enhanced audio.

The original upload was one of my most successful videos. I personally didn't like that video all that much, but I have to say that this new sound goes a long way in bringing out the emotions and the atmosphere of this arrangement. I think if you enjoyed the old version, you'll like this one.Slateport City (Pokemon Ruby & Sapphire) on pianoVerdegrand2016-09-24 | HD reupload with re-edited and digitally enhanced audio.JetsnGuns shop music (by Machinae Supremacy) on pianoVerdegrand2016-09-24 | HD reupload with re-edited and digitally enhanced audio.
The original has always been one of my favorite VGM tracks ever, so I was really happy to arrange this when 3llianX was chosen by the generator. The old version didn't really bring out what's inside of this arrangement, but I believe this new one does. This is one of the pieces that benefits the most from the re-editing. Really happy to reupload this one.Moonsong (Cave Story) on pianoVerdegrand2016-09-24 | HD reupload with re-edited and digitally enhanced audio.Call of Magic (Morrowind Main Theme) on pianoVerdegrand2016-09-24 | HD reupload with re-edited and digitally enhanced audio.

The original track means a lot to me, and this arrangement is different from my others because here I tried to go for a completely different sound than the original. I tried a pop-piano approach, and while I didn't like the result back when I originally uploaded this, I think I can appreciate this now, so I'm happy to reupload this piece with this better quality.Capital Theme (Sim City SNES) on pianoVerdegrand2016-09-24 | HD reupload with re-edited and digitally enhanced audio.Beautiful Gallia (Valkyria Chronicles) on pianoVerdegrand2016-09-24 | HD reupload with re-edited and digitally enhanced audio.
