The violoncellist Sol Gabetta has become an essential part of the international concert scene. On stage, she seems to perfectly merge with her instrument. The portrait of "A part of my soul" leads us through rehearsals and performances, including works by Elgar, Schumann, Shostakovich, Bloch, Vivaldi and Schubert. Written for Sol Gabetta the world premiere of "Presence" by Pēteris Vasks marks the end of the film about a soloist, who not only impresses the audience with her unique musical touch, but also with her charisma. The audience seems to become part of the concert and of Gabetta’s world of imaginative and emotional perception.

At her wedding reception, the beautiful but depressed Justine spots a red star in the sky. It is the planet Melancholia, which is on a collision course with Earth. The bridegroom Michael tries to calm her down with his love, her mother Gaby poisons her with her darkness, and her sister Claire attempts to rescue her with her solicitude. But no-one can stop the mysterious forces ignited within Justine. And Melancholia gets closer and closer…

The iconic director Lars von Trier’s apocalyptic Melancholia took the world by storm in 2011. The composer Mikael Karlsson – known to the audiences for his music to Alexander Ekman ballets such as Midsummer Night’s Dream and Hammer – has now made a full-length opera based on the drama art film. The librettist is Royce Vavrek, who also wrote the libretto for the operatic version of von Trier’s Breaking the Waves. The soloists include the soprano Lauren Snouffer – a virtuoso performer of both baroque opera and contemporary music – as Justine, Metropolitan Opera’s young rising star Rihab Chaieb as Claire, and Anne Sofie von Otter as the ice-cold mother Gaby.Repertoire: Richard Strauss: Die Frau ohne Schatten

About "Legato - World of the Piano"

A new generation has made the piano popular again: pianists with a passion for virtuosity and a willingness to expand their repertoire. In addition to the usual classics, they perform formerly scorned works or discover neglected composers. LEGATO is a series dedicated to presenting some of this new movement's most fascinating pianists - their individual approaches, their fresh ideas and their music.

Roland Pöntinen acquired his mastery quietly, with seamless consistency in his native Sweden, and since his debut in 1981, he has become known beyond his native North in the more cultivated international piano world.

For this recital, Pöntinen put together a program that could be a kind of self-portrait: he dares a lot, because apart from a single work that he certainly considers central, namely Chopin's Ballade op. 52 - it is one of the centerpieces of his musical thinking - almost all the works on this evening are rarities: Couperin (with the sensuous "Rondeau Les Barricades mistérieuses" and Rameau's sparklingly played "Gavotte", the Busoni group - not to mention the fact that he offers a new work by the Finnish composer Saariaho: 'Prélude' and, answered in the program sequence by Chopin's Ballade, also a 'Ballade'.

About "Spirits of Mozart"

A crossover experience inspired by the music of Mozart: the surprising and original Spirits of Mozart. In this crossover concert, outstanding personalities from the fields of pop, jazz and classical music interpret Mozart`s compositions in their personal musical languages for a broad public of the 21st century. These performances show that the impact of Mozart`s music reaches far beyond the boundaries of classical music. Performers like Dee Dee Bridgewater, the young violinist Benjamin Schmid with jazz band and orchestra, Jethro Tull’s singer-flutist Ian Anderson and many others present Mozart arrangements in a rousing, electrifying melange of classical, jazz and pop culture.

Meet conductor and cellist Klaus Mäkelä through the eyes of Bruno Monsaingeon. The legendary director discovered the young maestro's genius for the first time in 2021 at a concert by the Orchestre de Paris, when he was just 25 years old. A wave of emotion swept through the hall, setting off a chain reaction. The orchestra expressed its desire to play again under his baton, and Bruno Monsaingeon decided to share the story of this prodigy with the world.
From his way of interpreting music to his meticulous approach to concerts (with Amsterdam’s Royal Concertgebouw orchestra or Orchestre de Paris) and recordings (with Oslo-filharmonien), via his personal history and his years of training (in the class of Jorma Panula), nothing is left aside in this portrait. Through his travelling and musical collaborations, the director reveals himself as a conductor who is to leave his mark on the 21st century, although his career is just beginning. More than a simple subject of study, Mäkelä plays an active role in this documentary, lending himself to interviews, giving us an invaluable insight into his vision of music.
