After receiving numerous requests for this video, I will share my experiences with the new 15 watt UV laser from Haotian Laser. . I aim to provide insights into the differences, materials tested, and overall impressions after weeks of use.
Unboxing and Initial Impressions
Upon ordering the UV laser, it arrived at my doorstep within 12 days. However, when it arrived the create lid was taped on instead of nailed down. This was not normal! Watch the video to find out what happened.
This experience reinforced the importance of purchasing equipment from reputable sources. Had I encountered issues with a less responsive company, proving the damage could have been a significant challenge.
Key Differences Between UV and Fiber Lasers
One of the first notable differences between the 15 watt UV laser and my 60 watt fiber laser is the cooling system. The UV laser requires a chiller that not only cools but also heats the water to an optimal temperature of 25°C before use. This means that there is a waiting period of about 15 minutes after turning on the chiller, especially in colder environments. In contrast, my fiber laser could be used immediately upon startup.
Setup and Configuration
Setting up the UV laser was straightforward, taking about an hour and a half. Unlike the fiber laser, the UV laser's source is located above the computer case, which means standard cases used for fiber lasers are not compatible. I also opted for a 700mm motorized tower, which I highly recommend for ease of use, especially when working with 300mm lens sizes.
Leatherette
One of the first materials I tested was leatherette. The UV laser performed exceptionally well, providing detailed engravings and the ability to cut through the material, which my fiber laser could not do. The settings provided by Haotian Laser were accurate, allowing for impressive results across various colors.
Coins
I also experimented with coins, a staple in my business. While the UV laser can engrave on brass and stainless steel, it operates at a slower pace compared to the fiber laser. For surface marking, the UV laser is adequate, but for three-dimensional work, the fiber remains the better option.
Ear Tags and Plastics
Marking cattle ear tags was another successful application. The UV laser produced smooth, readable markings in a matter of seconds. Additionally, I found it effective for marking on 3D printed parts, which is increasingly in demand.
Golf Balls and Hard Coolers
The detail achieved on golf balls was impressive, although I encountered some challenges with bright yellow ones golf balls. The UV laser also marked hard coolers effectively, producing contrasting colors based on the surface color and material.
Glass Engraving
While I had some initial struggles with glass, the results are promising. I used both rotary's and flat setups, and with further refinement, I expect to achieve excellent glass engravings.
