This show is produced and sometimes directed by Tim Burton and shows confidence in its source material and what can be done with it, especially in the second season. Its dark humour is consistent and a source of great pleasure.

All three films are worth watching, all are eccentric but they agreeable go to the beat of their own drum. Gods is the strongest overall, even if to Western audience it might feel odd in places.

This is probably the strongest live action version of the tale, even if it has flaws within action and sometimes over-stating a theme. Yet its charm and an ability to stick to the story and themes with sensitivity elevates the film beyond its flaws and makes it a film to watch.
Ick and Weapons nazarinprod 2025-09-15 | A look at two modern horror films, Ick and Weapons. Ick is a genre monster movie with satirical undertones while Weapons is the elevated horror release of the year, suggesting classy horror. I preferred Ick but both are worth a look.

Matewan nazarinprod 2025-09-15 | A look at the John Sayles film Matewan. This film looks at the Matewan massacre and the build-up to it, between the coal-mine owners and the workers trying to organise into a union. A terrific film with many nuances, this deserves a wider audience.
Beautiful Disasters: Tron Legacy nazarinprod 2025-09-08 | A look at the flawed but wonderful Tron Legacy. Directed by Joseph Kosinski and starring a returning Jeff Bridges, this film is a thing of beauty in regards to images and sound. The story is still a bit basic, which lets it down, but it has terrific moments throughout that make up for it.
Caught Stealing nazarinprod 2025-09-08 | A look at the new Darren Aaronofsky film Caught Stealing. This is a modern noir starring Austin Butler that is also influenced by Asian crime movies. While its influences are everywhere it has enough of its own personality to make a dent on the viewer.
Three Outlaw Samurai nazarinprod 2025-09-08 | Three Outlaw Samurai is the debut of director Hideo Gosha. It looks at the samurai and their employer relationship with an honest cynicism, having people make realistic decisions rather than safe choices tied to plot needs. The characters become fascinating and flawed, which is the jumping off point for a complicated film set in the Japanese warrior past.
Orson Welles Macbeth nazarinprod 2025-09-08 | A look at the wonderful and atmospheric adaptation by Orson Welles of Macbeth. This film is moody and looks into the mindset of the pagan-like society dealing with ambition gone violent. It's use of monologues as thoughts is beautiful and modern. Its a hugely influential film.

This is an odd, low budget Lovecraft adaptation with as many good or intriguing scenes as those which appear incompetent. Its a strange film that I would like to enjoy due to its inventiveness but it keeps hobbling itself with terrible production solves.
These Bodies Dont Do What They Should - Lifechanger and Spiritwalker nazarinprod 2025-09-01 | Lifechanger and Spiritwalker both deal with the idea of someone moving from body to body, having a different appearance to the world after a set period of time. Lifechanger uses this idea for a low-budget drama about a person killing people and assuming their looks. Spiritwalker is a medium budget action film where the spirit is transformed from body to body to solve a conspiracy. Both are flawed films but worth seeing.
Parker But Not - The Outfit and Payback Directors Cut nazarinprod 2025-09-01 | This video looks at two adaptations of the Richard Stark novels featuring Parker. These are The Outfit and Payback Director's Cut, both of which use the character but under different names. Neither are top class, having messy elements in scripts, direction and performances but they are fun b-level films.

It's terribly designed and directed, its paceless, has actors embarrassed to be there. A perfect film for this series.

It had numerous difficulties throughout and came out a classic. Its old school filmmaking from an era that cannot be reproduced and no-one should even try.

A sequel to the Stephen King novel in name only, this is a crazy direct to VHS movie from an experienced low-budget director, where the charm is in its scrappiness.

Lester replaced Richard Donner, who had shot the original and some of the sequel, but gave it his own spin. Grave Of The Fireflies is a dark tale of Japan in the last days of World War 2 as two children try to survive. The Cat Returns is a fantasy tale following a girl saving a cat. Both are wonderful films, if for very different reasons.
