Bandai America was truly firing on all cylinders after their successes from the first two years. They went in releasing more long-standing wishlist items fans had wanted, while fine-tuning other elements such as figures and electronics.

However what would end up being their final four Zord releases exposed their shortcomings in designing cross-compatible combiners, and required fixes from both Bandai and third parties.

Cosmic Fury Megazord Toy Review (Power Rangers Season 30)

powerrangertube 2023-08-27 | Our 30th anniversary megazord takes us back into space for Cosmic Fury. Five Zords and six Cosmic Orbs form the main contents of the 2023 set, based on the 2017 Super Sentai mecha that *may* have had input from Bandai America, back when they ran the toyline and were still expecting to adapt it for Power Rangers.

Hasbro have picked up where Bandai left off with this overpriced and undersized take on the main megazord of the season, which unfortunately vetoes their established trend of additional articulation and instead retains the brick-toy aesthetic, muddled with the same lego-like Zord Link ports from Dino Fury.

While it's easy to critique, Hasbro seem to be trying something different here, more based on Bandai America's take on megazords, and drawing greater distinction between their basic and collector lines. Let's talk about how successful this toy ends up being.

powerrangertube 2023-01-21 | Hasbro's 2nd Lightning Collection Zord Ascension Project release gives us their take on Dragonzord. And while it's our 5th combining version of the green ranger's iconic zord, they've managed a few new surprises, including missile hands, special effect pieces, and a solid two-handed grip on the warrior mode staff!

The Megazord of the Gold Ranger and based on a Mosasaurus, this release brings back one of my most hated pet peeves, but does continue Hasbro's greatest asset of figure flexibility. See what you think.

Why I dont buy the Wild Force Megazords (Power Rangers Season 10 2002)

powerrangertube 2022-05-01 | In 2002/3, Power Rangers went super mega corny again for Wild Force. Set on a flying island, with a singing Disney mentor, matching coloured gilets, silver bang highlights, and a "we must stop pollution(!)" message. I was so out.

The zords were very different as well. At the time it was radical, but looking back, it's style is the dawn of the modern 'snap-on-snap-off' limb swap gimmick we lived with for most of the Neo-Saban era. But I couldn't get on board, and all the duplicate zords confused me.

Now 20 years later, here's a run down of why I'm still not interested in Bandai America's arguably best ever zordline.

What went wrong with the Power Rangers 2017 Movie Toyline?

powerrangertube 2022-04-15 | In 2017, Power Rangers came back to the cinema for the first time in 20 years. 5 sequels were meant to follow. Turns out though, you have to get part 1 right first.

While I still think there's a lot of great stuff in the movie, the designs massively let it down, and in a franchise where toy sales are critical, the film messed up coming out the gate.

Here's my thoughts on why nothing worked during this odd line, and why Bandai were set up to fail from the outset.

Deluxe Transwarp Megazord, Time Force HQ base + TimeJet toy review Power Rangers Time Force Season 9

powerrangertube 2022-01-15 | There was only one way to end your Time Force Zord collection and that was to go back in time to Japan from the year before. Only sold as Super Sentai, the Provider base included DX Providus - what to us, was the Transwarp Megazord. And our holy grail item, the TimeJet, which gave us the mini figures for the Time Flyers, and the blaster for Time Force Megazord Mode Blue.

Transwarp was a very retro end to what had been an otherwise futuristic season. But don't discount his 'wind-up' gimmick, because it's weirdly fun! Let's wrap up the deluxe zords of Time Force with this fourth visit to the past (or future).

I think Quantasaurus Megazord is the highest technical achievement from the entire Power Rangers francise. It sort've bombed and that's why we've never had another one like it, but it exists as a timeless classic; set in the future but originating from our past.

Deluxe Time Shadow Megazord 2001 Toy Review (Power Rangers Time Force Season 9)

Why the Gokaiger toys are (mostly) better than Super Megaforce

Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger had a huge spread of toys - across figures, role play, and zords, that Power Rangers Super Megaforce had a lot to catch up on for their versions. But how well did they do?

Deluxe Lifeforce Megazord / DX Max Victory Robo Sigma Project 1999 (Power Rangers Lightspeed Rescue)

powerrangertube 2021-08-05 | Lightspeed Rescue wasn't done giving us megazords even if Bandai America were done giving us toys of them! Lifeforce Megazord entered the series with just 3 episodes to go, basically a black and gold version of Lightspeed Solarzord.

And following years of resistance, I finally bought a version of this in 2020 from Japan. While it's not my favourite of the five releases, it does represent a few ''firsts' for the toyline...

powerrangertube 2021-07-17 | Nearly 3 years after the first Lightning Collection reveal at Power Morphicon 2018, we finally have a complete team! Mighty Morphin becomes our first fully complete set of rangers, and what a sight the 7 of them are.

Following Bandai's 5" and 7" Legacy versions in 2014 and 2016-17, here's Hasbro's 6" to show them how it's done. But are they as flawless as wave 1's white ranger first led us to believe?

This is complicated because Mighty Morphin is currently getting constant releases, in double packs, and metallic versions. If you want the original version figures shown here though...at time of posting, wave 7 is gradually making its way into Europe, though has been available in America for up to 6 months. This may make it easier to find Green and (the re-release of) White Ranger. The rest of the rangers will currently require an aftermarket purchase, although I would suggest waiting for their inevitable re-releases!

Our 4th Zord release of season 8 was a strange one - originally meant as a Microsoft interactive toy, it eventually came to America (but not Europe) virtually unchanged from Japan's version. Here's my thoughts on all 3 modes of this retro-futuristic array.

Recent toyline: Dino Fury and Beast Morphers: jump on what you can while you see it at list price or lower.

Neo-Saban era: Samurai (2011)-Super Ninja Steel (2018). 2nd hand versions may be popular on eBay at good rates as people grow up and sell on their old stuff.

The same applies for the below:
Disney era: Ninja Storm (2003)-RPM (2007)
Saban era: Mighty Morphin (1993)-Wild Force (2002). Look on eBay or at conventions and pay what you're comfortable with. Be advised toys will be pricey from this time. Consider The Bandai Japan versions.

And for all eras: be wary of scalpers. Be patient where you can and set up those eBay search alerts!
