7shield Demonstration on the ICE Cubes Infrastructure Space Applications Services NV/SA 2022-12-13 | The 13th of December 2022, Space Applications Services hosts the third and last demonstration of the 7SHIELD project.The demonstration has the objective to evaluate the effectiveness of the innovative technologies and the robustness of the 7SHIELD platform and its modules as applied to the ICE Cubes service. The demonstration will focus on cyber security scenarios. The 7SHIELD demonstration will cover all the phases of the cyber security, including the prevention phase, the detection of attacks, their responses and mitigations. The demonstration scenario will involve the latest ICE Cubes asset, the AI-BOX, an experiment cube deployed in the ISS to provide GPU and Machine Learning capabilities at the edge, onboard the ISS. This is a multi-tenant environment accessible by multiple end-users. Final Demonstration of MOSAR Project Space Applications Services NV/SA 2021-07-15 | On July 9th 2021, Space Applications Services organised the final demonstration of the MOSAR project.The video shows the demonstration relative to our Walking Manipulator relocation and the manipulation and connection of spacecraft modules between Servicer and Client spacecrafts thanks to HOTDOCKs.The MOSAR Project achieved the development up to TRL4 of the following technologies enabling an in orbit modular assembly and reconfiguration of spacecraft:• Orbital Replaceable Units (ORUs). Each individual module is dedicated to a specific function such as control, power, thermal management, sensors. EXOSUIT - Training Future Astronauts with an Exoskeleton and Virtual Reality Space Applications Services NV/SA 2021-06-04 | The number of space travelers is expected to dramatically increase in the next few decades. However, current tools for astronauts are not well-adapted to the needs of mass training for microgravity environments. This project describes a training system that requires a low level of supervision while also allowing high flexibility, scalability, customization, safety and immersion. It is based on an upper-body exoskeleton and a Virtual Reality environment that work seamlessly to replicate the movements of the trainees while also allowing force feedback. With this bilateral communication, the movements of the trainees are replicated in the virtual world in real time, and the users are able to feel the forces involved in different activities such as grabbing, pushing, pulling, drilling or even feeling the constraints of the Extravehicular Mobility Unit. This is LUVMI-X: the Lunar Rover that will explore the resources of the Moon Space Applications Services NV/SA 2020-04-07 | Space Applications Services uses Virtual Reality to help scientists plan the journey of LUVMI-X on the Lunar Surface.Believed to exist in or near the cold permanently shadowed regions (PSR) at the lunar poles, the possibility of water ice on the surface of the Moon is an item of major interest. Harnessing the water, as well as other mineral resources available in the Lunar Regolith such as Oxygen, would enable humankind to sustainably expand into space.The LUVMI-X Lunar rover is a lunar mobility platform being designed and prototyped by Space Applications Services in Belgium, to provide modular mobility to a variety of payloads on the lunar surface while maintaining a footprint small enough to fly on commercial or agency lunar lander missions, with a launch planned for 2024.In its core reference mission, LUVMI-X is configured to visit the Lunar poles to detect Lunar resources, hosting a novel compact volatiles sampler designed by the Technical University of Munich (TUM) and OHB System AG, a volatiles analyser by the Open University, a LIBS spectrometer by Laser Zentrum Hannover/German Space Center/OHB, a radiation detector by TUM, a light-field camera technology demonstrator by Dynamic Imaging Analytics, and proof of concept propellable and deployable payloads.The rover features two payload bays (fore and aft) capable of hosting up to 24 U (12 U x 2) worth of instruments and experiments developed by Earth-based lunar explorers, or samples and other equipment, depending on the mission type. They will be either accommodated on LUVMI-X’s standardized payload bay (based on CubeSat-like volumes), or custom interfaces or containers.The rover is currently being designed and prototyped along with its state-of-the-art payload suite. Novel approaches to non-invasive BCI have been used to control a lower limbs orthosis enabling different types of gaits. A Virtual Reality (VR) training environment assists the patients in generating the correct brain control signals and in properly using the orthosis. The main BCI approach relies on Dynamic Recurrent Neural Network (DRNN) technology applied in a two stages process.
