Old Cariboo road at Nine Mile canyon near Boston Bar BC Canada smokeywoodstover 2020-02-09 | This was the main highway through the Fraser canyon until about 1958 when the new Nine Mile canyon bridge was built at Ainslie creek. To explore the portion south of the old bridge, I parked at the big pullout just south of the present Ainslie creek bridge and walked/climbed straight up the hill to the old highway, starting to the left a home made sign with a cross nailed to a tree. It took about 10 minutes. It takes about an hour to get to the old bridge site due to having to go over and under many fallen trees. An interesting hike.

Convert Autocad map to vector format for Garmin gps DWG to IMG smokeywoodstover 2018-05-16 | I made a program to create a custom Garmin format map in .IMG format from an Autocad drawing in .DWG format. The two black screen shots are Autocad, then you see the same thing in Mapsource, then a screen capture of the same map from the gps. After that are several more screen captures from the gps of other maps I have made from Autocad drawings. There are other programs out there that do something like this but they draw the map with waypoints and tracklog lines. Mine is much better because each feature has the correct line style and a name.
Train derailment Keefers BC, Boston Bar, North Bend May 3, 2018 smokeywoodstover 2018-05-11 | About 6 PM May 3 2018 this Canadian National eastward freight train derailed 20 cars near Keefers BC in the Fraser Canyon on the Canadian Pacific track. It is about 16 km east or north of North Bend. No one was injured and no hazardous material spilled. Two of the derailed cars are shown hanging over the edge of the embankment. I sent these to Global TV news but they didn't respond and didn't use them. Maybe they can only use "official" photos supplied by the railway company? I heard that years ago CPR had a deal with some of the photo labs. If anyone had pictures to develop showing a train derailment the lab would "loose" the pictures or tell the customer they didn't turn out.
