These unique terms, called “terms of venery,” date back to 1486 when a British woman named Julia Berners wrote The Book of Hawking, Hunting and Blasing of Arms. Originally, these terms were used by hunters to separate the "real" hunters from the amateurs, but over time they became a way for the upper class to show off their knowledge. From a gaggle of geese to an implausibility of gnus or even a conspiracy of lemurs, these whimsical names are a fascinating look at how language evolves. Which one is your favorite? To manage the population boom, vets are using darts filled with sedatives and pig hormones as a form of birth control. But not everyone agrees with this solution. Many argue that humans destroyed the wetlands first, and the capybaras are simply reclaiming their home. They’re calling for a capybara reserve instead of more golf courses and mansions. In a surprising turn of events, the bears returned to their enclosure on their own—well, mostly. Mish wandered back without a fuss, while Lucy needed a little encouragement (and some treats) to follow suit. The park is still scratching their heads over how the escape happened since the enclosure showed no signs of damage. Could these clever bears have mastered the art of lock-picking? In this exclusive making-of video from Wild Canada – The Eternal Frontier, the crew sets out to film wildlife underwater in the icy waters off Newfoundland and the high Arctic. Using topside high-speed cameras and a team goes filming underwater led by legendary diver Didier Noirot, they faced fog, freezing temps, and murky waters filled with millions of capelin — the primary food of humpback whales.
🎥 Despite these obstacles, they captured one of the most unforgettable moments ever filmed: three humpback whales swimming directly over the camera.
🐋 Plus, for the first time ever, the spawning behavior of capelin (believed to date back to the Ice Age) was recorded while the crew was filming underwater wildlife.
This video highlights the dedication, patience, and teamwork it takes when filming wildlife in extreme conditions.

Equipped with the strongest bite force of any big cat, the jaguar is capable of crushing the thick, bony skull or tough hide of a Yacare in a single, lethal bite. In the wetlands of South America, the Yacare caiman uses a fascinating strategy to attract a mate. Males produce low-frequency vocalizations that resonate through the water, creating visible ripples and vibrations. This display is both a visual and auditory signal, showcasing the male’s strength and fitness to nearby females.
The intensity and depth of these vocalizations are key to catching the attention of potential mates, as only the strongest males can produce the most powerful sounds. This unique courtship behavior plays a vital role in the Yacare’s reproductive success, demonstrating how even in the wild, communication and display are essential for survival and the continuation of the species.

And the journey to find her wasn’t easy.
Aotearoa New Zealand is a country of fascinating birds, but perhaps none are as famous as the Kiwi.
A South-Island hunter first reported seeing this kiwi back in March, so the department of conservation decided to act.
They sent Biodiversity Ranger Iain Graham and his conservation dog Brew to a four day stakeout in the west coast of new Zealand.
harsh conditions proved a challenge, with winter weather and tricky terrain.
Brew’s training came in clutch, finding a number of Kiwi Burrows, but they were all empty.
Then, finally, on the last day they spotted her.
And the people of Aotearoa got their first sighting of what was believed to be a lost treasure, a wild Pukupuku Kiwi.

The male Cock-of-The-Rock, native to South America, has a very distinctive look, one it uses to attract his mates! Compared to the females, the males are bright orange, and puff out their plumage to attract females.
But it’s not that easy. Rival males will try to interrupt the display, calling out and butting in! Thankfully, it’s not up to the rivals, and the females will select their favourites.
Head to our channel tomorrow to watch our latest video all about how songbirds use their voices to vocalize complex expressions!

I recently went camping and woke up every day to birdsongs. When I returned to work, I felt like a different person. So why do bird songs calm us?
When birds stop singing, it can signal that something's wrong. Like a predator nearby or danger. But when they are singing, it's your brain's signal that you're safe.
That simple sound helps lower stress, anxiety, and even overthinking. It's like your brain goes: "Okay, I can relax now."
Birdsong also gently holds your attention without overwhelming it. That's what scientists call "soft fascination." It keeps you present. Not zoning out, not doomscrolling, just here. The sounds of the outdoors are much smoother compared to flashing lights and horns.
Being in nature, even just hearing birds, pulls you out of your own head. And recordings also work! Your brain loves birdsong. Give it a listen!
The Wolf, covered in the remains of a previous hunt, is close to capturing a young bison. But will the bison be able to hold him off? Is it just a matter of time before one comes out on top?
