Archeage 2 - Open World Action Combat MMORPG in Unreal Engine 5 Paradox Gaming Network 2022-11-18 | A couple of years ago Archeage II was announced. At the time I was really excited, but then the issues with Gamigo and then later Kakao just totally destroying the IP and stealing the magic behind Archeage was enough to make me forget about the project for a while. A few days ago, however, they released a new trailer and the game is starting to shape up. Archeage II is slated to be an open world, action combat, MMORPG with cross platform support, so people can play on console or on PC. They are developing the game in Unreal Engine 5, so the graphics we see here in the trailer aren’t some fancy representation that won’t be reflective of in-game graphics.Jake Song, the Executive Producer of Archeage and Archeage II said in an interview that they want to take the best parts of Archeage, things like Housing and Trade runs, fix the flaws and build upon them. If they can manage to do that, then I think Archeage II has a real shot at being a market changer, assuming that Kakao games can get their act together, not turn AAII into a clown fiesta filled with P2W or NFTs, and that they can actually manage the servers and not fumble and bumble them into oblivion. Building an MMORPG Crafting System WITHOUT MINIGAMES Paradox Gaming Network 2022-11-12 | During the October 2022 Ashes of Creation Livestream, Steven Sharif the Creative Director mentioned that the crafting system might have some sort of mini-game in it. In over two decades of MMORPG gameplay only two games have really stood out for their crafting systems; Eve Online and Final Fantasy 14. FFXIV is without a doubt the more complicated of the two systems, with at this time 24 different buttons on your hotbar for crafting. The problem is, that in FFXIV you can simply create a macro that 100% ensures you HQ each and every craft. Where is the game in that? The other is Eve Online, which isn’t a crafting system but more a Manufacturing and Logistics system, which I believe is the gold standard of production and more MMORPGs should model it.What do you think? Now I am pleasantly surprised and I’m shocked that I’m surprised. Intrepid has pivoted away from only certain things in the environment being able to be harvested. Now everything can be harvested. 100 REASONS why PVE SERVERS cant work for ASHES OF CREATION Paradox Gaming Network 2022-10-27 | So first it was a discussion about the open world PVP system and how even with the corruption system nothing was going to stop the game from becoming a gank-box. After breaking down corruption, how every kill requires between 2.8 and 6.4 hours of grinding to earn back, and how corruption compounds with each kill and is multiplied by not only how many kills you have but also the level disparity. Apparently that wasn’t enough because now the push is for PVE servers. Now, don’t get me wrong, PVE servers work in some games, but Ashes of creation has too many interconnected and interwoven systems to suddenly just remove flagging and hope that it doesn't cause a cascade breakdown. Take out flagging, there goes bounty hunting. That’s 1 of 8 PVP themes gone. Caravans become less of an option since you can run 10% of a caravan load with your mule out. Just like that 2 of 8 systems gone. Player Agency and Emergent Gameplay turning into conflict? Not without flagging. I’m willing to listen to any argument about how PVE servers could work. I think creators need to be free to make the content they want to make without fear of ridicule, however, sometimes a piece of reaction content needs to be made. In this case it was Lucky Ghost’s Ashes of Creation video which was so mis-informed that Steven Sharif the Creative Director of Ashes of Creation had to comment on the video to set the record straight. It is creators like this that I do not understand. You have 100k subscribers, some of your videos get over 500k views approaching 1m views and you can’t be bothered to do any amount of research into the product you make? So much so you get called out by the man in charge? With that said, I reacted to about 50% of the video, which took me over 30 minutes to get through since there was so much bad information, biased information, and projection of opinion. Chronicles of Elyria WINS Lawsuit but can they RECOVER? Paradox Gaming Network 2022-10-13 | So the Chronicles of Elyria saga finally ended with Soul Bound Studios winning their class action lawsuit in Washington. Caspian claims this is a great victory for crowd funding products, but the truth is this is a slippery win as the only reason why SBS won, was because they excluded some verbiage in their Terms of Service. Had their TOS been written differently, or had they gotten a different judge on assignment, this case would have gone a totally different way. With that said, the future of crowdfunding is secure for now, but I imagine this going to be an issue we see again very soon.With that said, I would absolutely recommend you NEVER give Caspian, SBS, or COE a dime until the game comes out, and even then it is iffy if you should support a company that was greased up and slipped through the cracks. Modeled loosely after the Farm Hauler/Freighter idea in Archeage, Caravans are going to be the lifeblood of trade. Should Ashes of Creation have Automatic Moderation? Paradox Gaming Network 2022-09-11 | One of my viewers cashed in 50,000 viewer reward points for me to do a segment on Automated GMing and how Ashes of Creation should handle it in the wake of the recent World of Warcraft automated bans. Staysafe TV did an amazing job of showcasing how little it takes to trigger the automated response, and what all of the after affects of that ban were. Someone is trying to say that because New World’s cities failed, that Ashes of Creation Nodes would fail, but then more than half of their arguments or complaints had to do with the PVP system. It had to do with the ease of accessibility of freeholds. I think a lot of the player base was expecting that freeholds would be relatively easy to acquire, but from Steven’s comment it does seem like they may be a bit hard to acquire. I think this is going to cause a little controversy, especially since they sell cosmetic cash ship skins for freeholds. I also think we may have an issue with who can become citizens early in the game, where only the super rich or super lucky get to become citizens and leadership in Stage 3 nodes.These are just my thoughts, make sure to leave a comment on what you think. Ashes of Creation Combat Update - Not Sure What to Think Paradox Gaming Network 2022-07-01 | I’m really not sure what to make of this update. In some ways I think it is great because it is showing off a lot of great things that Intrepid has improved on. The art and animation are leagues better than the APOC days, all of this looks better than last year's Alpha 1. In other ways, I’m really confused because things like active blocking don’t easily fit into a tab centric game. I’m really hoping that Intrepid does less dog and pony show next month and spells out more of the new direction and vision. The switch to Unreal Engine 5 looks nice, the character creator looks great, but there has been a continuing lagging issue with the cosmetics for the last 15 months and that is the cosmetics. People continue to spend money and buy cosmetics, but they have no idea what they are buying. The answer we get in regards to the cosmetic is that the answer is coming Soon™ and yet the cosmetics switch out monthly like clockwork. How MARKETING and MEDIA Ruin Games - Lost Ark Paradox Gaming Network 2022-03-09 | I want to make this perfectly clear: This is not a dig at Lost Ark or an attack on the developers. Everything I've seen shows the game is doing very well. This is a concern I have with the media. If everything is a 10, if everything is GOTY, GOAT, then nothing is. Nothing is a 10. Nothing is Game of the Year or Greatest of All Time. Lost Ark has a lot of problems, because every game does, so when it starts getting 10s and 100s, that is just the media outlet riding the hype so they can get more clicks, views, ads, and comments. They are using the success of a game for their own goals, not the benefit of the game itself. Part of this is on the consumer, we need to stop believing the outrageous hype.
