HappyDragoniteHappy December, Dragoknights! It’s time for some Wintery PokéTunes to celebrate the greatest month in the year (fact) with some great music to get you in the holiday / Winter spirit. Today we start off with Snowbelle City, which I have already done this year so let’s get wierd. There were a helluva lot of mastering and technical problems with my first go at Snowbelle, and I think I worked most of them out, and I’m pleased with the result. I really messed with the overall composition of the song, and I think that, along with better samples and mastering made a difference. Snowbelle City is a wonderful place, contrary to what LugiaDialga would have you believe. I love the atmosphere more than anything. The music is great, and the greatest part about Snowbelle are the benches you can sit on. The benches are a holy place. Also the snow is great too, or whatever. I’m really excited to continue uploading throughout this month, and I hope you like my take on Snowbelle! I wonder if Wulfric is out at the ass crack of dawn shovelling…
[Stupid updates are stupid: Last week I said Dragon’s Den would be this week, but my calendar skills suck and that is being delayed because December has to happen. Dunno when I’ll get to uploading it, but it WILL happen. I’m so sorry for hyping that up only to do this. It’s 100% poor planning on my part, and should have been avoided. I’m a dumdum sometimes.]
P.s. Peter, if I ever catch you requesting Snowbelle City again, I will personally fly my ass down to Florida with a steel container full of packed snow, and I will dump it all on your Snowbelle obsessed head.
Q: Download links? A: I was having some technical difficulties with my service provider since the Summer of 2013, and I am in the process of getting download links back. Please be patient.
Q: You used my art in one of your videos, can I have credit? A: For anything pre Autumn 2014 send me and email at HappyZoroark [at] gmail.com with the video title in the subject line, or art, and I will add a link for you in said video. As of September 2014 there will always be a link so you should have no reason to worry about credit unless it’s a bum link, or you (the artist in particular) would like a different link to be used.
Q: What do you use to produce your music? A: High quality samples and Logic Pro 9. For video editing I use iMovie 9, and for image editing I flip-flop between Pixelmator and Photoshop CS-something.
Q: Can I use your music in a video / monetized video? A: Absolutely. You don’t even need to ask my permission, just add a link to my channel in the description of your video and it’s all good. No need to make it all complicated. Go right ahead.
Q: How can I help support your channel ie. donations? A: I don’t accept donations at this time, but watching my videos (liking etc.) helps. If you have adblock on, if you turned it off to watch the videos of the people you watch on YouTube that would be super cool.

It’s 8:37am when I’m writing this so my brain is not functioning super great but like yeah here’s a song happy whatever-you-celebrate. I figured since I did 'Vast Ice Mountain Summit’ last year I should do the other one for symmetry or something? My parents won’t shut up it’s so awful please shut up I’m tired and can’t focus on what I’m writing like seriously these dweebs are talking about a facebook review of a movie forchristsake. Okay, I’m back. Uh, so the song. I had a lot of fun with the winds in this guy, and the strings too! It was a really good exercise in mixing, and I think it turned out okay? Maybe? Anyway, happy whatever-you-celebrate, I think you are all special and nice and I like you as an individual.

So Dark Ice Mountain doesn’t really have many ice types which is a little bit ironic given the name, and it’s not even that cool, but damn, that music is pretty good for an ice mountain that’s also dark. While I was working on this, I really tried to improve my percussion so it sounded a bit darker, and I thiiiiink it worked okay? Probably sorta. Anyway, uh, things and stuff. Workin’ real hard to make another thing before the 24th, so cross your fingers for me. See ya next time.

Blaze Summit (Reorchestrated)HappyDragonite2016-11-11 | A wild HappyDragonite appeared…and he’s getting grey hairs now. Well, his channel is anyway—so here we are seven years into this thing. I’m typing this early in the morning of November 11th, I’m dying for a cuppa (which as soon as I have this finished believe you me i will be funnelling down my gullet), and I’m not 15 anymore. I’m a twenty-something who’s actively working hard to improve his own life, and I like to think the fifteen-year-old that made this channel because he was lonely and wanted to talk about Pokémon with people who wouldn’t think he was a freak would be pleased with how his life is turning out.
This year as been an absolute nightmare for progressives (and if you follow me on any social media whatsoever you’ll know in between the shitposts I’m incredibly passionate about social issues), with so much loss, and so much heartbreak. 2016 has been tough for the world, but in spite of that, it has meant a great deal of personal growth—which honestly, has been years in the making. That gets into the little bubble that is my closely guarded personal life, but it’s been important to me. So important that 15-year-old me probably would have thought a bit more of himself.
Another thing that’s changed since that prat (aka 15-year-old me) made this channel is that now I actually have friends—and not like friends that I like but I sorta also hate, but like friends I really love, and people who I support and who support me. I have YouTube to thank for that. In past years I’ve named names, but this year I’ll save you, reader, the extra few paragraphs and just tell those individuals reading this that I couldn’t have done this without them, and their endless encouragement. These are people that that moulded me into who I am, and away from who I was.
In conclusion: thank you, each and every once of you (including the hate viewers—thank you for the views that let me buy pizza) for giving me a chance. Over the past year I think I’ve produced my absolute best music, and while I don’t produce it as much (see: life), when I do, I push myself to standards that would have given 15-year-old me a headache and probably bored him to tears. It’s incredible to see how this channel has grown in it’s little ways, and I know it’ll keep growing, which is really cool to get to experience from behind this computer screen. Thank you for caring. I care too. When I think about what I’ve tried to do here in the past few years, I realise I’ve tried to turn it into the safe place that I would have clung onto like a baby koala when I was younger. I couldn’t have done that without the support of a bunch of genuinely kindhearted people, and I’m honoured that we’ve gotten a reputation of inclusiveness here—seriously, whenever I’m in talks with *anybody* at YouTube they *rave* about how clean and positive my comments are, which is such a rarity *anywhere* on the internet. Be proud of yourselves for that. Know that wherever we go, we’re in this together. Thank you for seven years.

It’s Halloween, or the night of the year I’m thankful I live in a neighbourhood that largely has grown up so I don’t have to answer the door and give free candy to children who would have probably said horrible things to me if I were a child. Anyway, the last time I visited the Distortion World was in 2012 when I knew absolutely nothing about what I was doing, and now I sorta do? I dunno? Kinda-sorta? Well, here’s an updated version of that old chestnut, but like, better. It was fun to experiment with the bells and strings together, and I was glad to have an excuse to build a nice cello section. What a happy surprise. I’ve been thinking about doing something with the ‘Royal Unova’ theme for quite a while, but a few days ago I started thinking about doing a less bombastic arrangement with percussion and brass and what not, and doing something a bit more…less. Can you tell I’ve been listening to a lot of Max Richter yet? Anyway, I thought of doing an arrangement for strings, and it really just came out naturally from there. It was a lot of fun to make, and I hope you all like it as much as I do! Have a happy E3, and try to think some thoughts for Christina Grimmie today—it’s really sad when the community loses one of it’s own, let alone to an act of such pointless violence.

Yeah. Dark Hill exists in the Pokémon world, and it certainly has music in it. Sometimes when music exists in things I do things with it. My description writing skills have really diminished, haven’t they? Anyway, more on the actual track: I started this a while ago, and then it sorta nosedived into the ground, but then I dusted it off a few weeks ago and started trying to fix what was wrong with it. I really wanted this piece to be more experimental for me, so I really went out of my way to build up a gigantic brass ensemble because apparently that is still a thing I have difficulty with. I’m pretty pleased with the results of that, as it really sounds powerful—which is what I was going for. The ending was an absolute ass, so I made the executive decision of stripping away all that brass and ending not with a bang, but a fizzle, which just so happened to include a break that I’m incredibly proud of. Hope ya like it. See you all with another thing soon!

Anyway, Mt. Travail. It exists, and it has good music. I also exist, and I make music, so I figured it would happen at some point. That point is today. I had a lot of fun working with the strings in this one, and I based my library around winds, strings, and piano for the arrangement, which hopefully sounds as good to you as it does to me! This is also the first PokéTunes I’ve uploaded in ages, so hopefully that’s a welcome comeback. Hope you enjoy the song, and I’ll have another one up soon! Now I’m going to go daydream about Uncharted 4.

Q: You used my art in one of your videos, can I have credit? A: For anything pre Autumn 2014 send me an email at HappyZoroark [at] gmail.com with the video title in the subject line, or art, and I will add a link for you in said video as soon as I can. As of September 2014 there will always be a link so you should have no reason to worry about credit unless it’s a bum link, or you (the artist in particular) would like a different link to be used, in which case you can email me. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Q: What do you use to produce your music? A: High quality samples a la Kontakt 5, my wits, and Logic Pro 9. For video editing I use iMovie 9 (because the new one is impossible to figure out because I’m old and I don’t know how new fangled things work), and for image editing I use Pixelmator, which is a fantastic image editor for Mac, and doesn’t cost a bajillion dollars like Photoshop.
Q: Can I use your music in a video / monetized video? A: Absolutely. You don’t even need to ask my permission, just add a link to my channel in the description of your video and it’s all good. No need to make it all complicated. Go right ahead. If you want some attention too, feel free to mention me on Twitter @HappyDragonite, and I’ll check your video out!
Q: How can I help support your channel ie. donations? A: I don’t accept donations at this time, but watching my videos (liking etc.) helps. If you have adblock on, if you turned it off to watch the videos of the people you watch on YouTube (or whitelist YouTube!) that would be super cool, because that’s sort-of completely how I can afford to keep uploading videos instead of working retail, or running an international Rare Candy cartel. So hi. I’m here again, and I have a thing from Animal Crossing because who in the heck can hate Animal Crossing? This particular song is from the remastered Animal Crossing for the Gamecube and it plays when it rains! I like rain, and I like Animal Crossing, so this was something that was fated to be or something. Writing descriptions is awkward. More soon, people.
Q: What is "Rusty Does Other Stuff" about? A: I do more than just PokéTunes, LaytonTunes, and ZeldaTunes! RDOS Is an outlet for both me to dip my foot in some other waters of video game music, movie music, or even television music that I’m interested in that is NOT a part of these three series I have going.
Q: When with Rusty Does Other Stuff be uploaded—will it effect regular videos? A: Whenever the heck I feel like it, and nah. PokéTunes will always be the priority here, but this is just a way I can do other stuff too!
Q: Can I use your music in a video or a monetized video? A: Absolutely. You don’t even need to ask my permission, just write my username in the description of your video and it’s all good. No need to make it all complicated. Go right ahead.

Well hey, I’m back—and with my annual tribute to one of the greatest and most criminally under-appreciated series of all time, because for some reason I put a ridiculous amount of pressure on myself to Layton it up every year after I travel through time. I’ve really been struggling to make music these days, so I hope you’ll forgive the simplicity of this arrangement. I was thinking of adding percussion, but I sorta ran out of time, so that’s not a thing. What is a thing are the winds I made, because good god I’m actually proud of the wind section in this. Poor virtual woodwinders are cursing my name. Anyway, I hope (actually) I’ll have another thing for you guys soon—but until then solve a puzzle or something, I ain’t your daddy.

Remember how last year on Valentine’s I uploaded a cutesy arrangement of Wigglytuff’s Guild? Well now we’re getting dark. Because what says Valentine’s Day more than Dusk Forest, right? Right. So fun story: this has been in my WIP folder for more than a year, and when I rediscovered it most everything was done. I polished it up a bit, and added a heck of a lot more bulk to it, and I think if this is any evidence of a diamond in the rough, I should probably go over my WIP folder more often! Dusk Forest is such a neat dungeon to explore, and I love the overall atmosphere the song adds to it. I hope you like the piece, and I hope you have a great day regardless of what it means to you personally! I LOVE YOU ALL.

The pun worked in my head, but in print it just sounds…yeah, okay anyway let’s talk the actual track, shall we? I actually started this project a long time ago, but when I was digging around in my WIP folder I gave it a listen, and where once I obviously saw just coal now I saw a diamond in the rough. To be honest, my biggest concern going back into Steam Cave was knowing it’s a fan favourite, and there’s no way everybody would be happy with my take on it—although I hope the majority of you guys like it. I had a blast with the strings, because I wanted them to sound really airy, and I think it worked maybe? Steam Cave is such a neat area—I’ve always loved the expedition segment of the Explorers games. Going from Foggy Forest (also a personal fave of mine!) to Steam Cave, just wondering what could be on the top of the mountain…it’s pretty neat. Anyway, thanks for reading / listening, and I’ll see you again real soon with another PokéTunes!

Happy-almost-Christmas, Dragoknights! Jeez, time flies doesn’t it? I feel like an entire month has gone by and I’ve just woken up or something. Well, here we are, and here is my annual Christmas-special-PokéTunes-thing! I mean I never go overboard with jingle bells or whatnot, but this year I thought I’d try something a little more chill. Thus, Dragonspiral Tower. I’ve always loved the song, both in Celestial Tower and Dragonspiral Tower. The melody is so beautiful, and it always struck me as being oddly pretty considering one of the places it plays at is owned by dead Pokémon (morbid much?) and the other is this epic tower that leads up to you getting a glimpse at a huge dragon-bro that you’ll need to arm-wrestle later. And then that piano tinkles in, and the song dwindles away. Also there’s snow around Dragonspiral Tower so it’s Wintery and nobody can tell me different! Anyway, I hope you enjoy the song, Dragoknights, and if you are celebrating Christmas or anything else I hope you have a fantastic one. See you all again real soon with a brand new PokéTunes! Hohoho...

Told you to bundle up. Okay, so first thing’s first, I have ann announcement that will make a lot of you very, very happy: download links are back. I lost all my file prior to early Summer 2014, but I’m working on getting all the tracks after that point uploaded. You’ll be able to find their links in the respective videos. Anyway, on to the actual track itself: it’s been a while since I’ve really done a powerful track, so I thought this would be a perfect opportunity to reorchestrate Vast Ice Mountain Peak (which I like way better than Vast Ice Mountain even though that’s cool too) and I did so with whole lotta strings, an amazing choir, and that pounding timpani that you can thank Mewmore for helping me make sound good. You go from Vast Ice Mountain which has this epic adventure’s-ending-soon sound, and then Vast Ice Mountain Peak which is almost triumphant sounding. You did it—you’re going to get to the top of the mountain and at this point you’re probably not gonna die a horrific death with your companions. GG, Grovyle. You do you, boo. I absolutely love the breaks in this song too, with the low strings and the celesta playing away in the background. Sounds…Wintery to me. I hope you enjoy(ed) the track, and I’ll see you again really soon with another PokéTunes!

This time we’re getting closer to Winter, right? Okay, I have some obscure reasoning behind this one. So a couple of years ago, Chuggaaconroy introduced me to Kirby’s Epic Yarn (I’ll link his playlist down below if you’re into that sort-of thing—it’s a good one!) and it was like a magical awakening of sorts. “But HappyDragonite…” you wonder, “how does this song have anything to do with that?” Well, questioning Dragoknight, stylistically I tried to replicate the sounds from Kirby’s Epic Yarn’s music (which is wonderful go check it out later) in this track. Also Shaymin Village leads on to the ‘Pass dungeons, and one of them has snow so I’m totally justified in this Winter decision, Arceusdammit. Lots of winds, strings, and an accompanying guitar and celesta (along with some even stranger and awesome instruments I couldn’t find samples of for this track)—those are the kinds of things you’ll hear in Kirby’s Epic Yarn, and those are the kinds of things you’ll hear here! I had a lot of fun Kirby-ifying a Pokémon track, and hopefully sometime I can visit and actual Kirby track! Shaymin Village has such a peaceful vibe, and it’s just so happy that it just made sense for the style I went for, which thanks to the help from Mewmore and GlitchxCity (also links down below!) I think I got just right. Hope you all have a fantastic week, and stay tuned for next week’s PokéTunes…although you may want to bundle up for that one. Brrr...

Happy December! Yeah, okay, Dragoknights I admit I’m reaching pretty far with this one. Rustboro City (And Mauville, and Mossdeep) has (have) literally nothing to do with Winter so it’s basically a disgrace to my unnamed month of Winter stuff. Oh well. Find Winter in unexpected places, ya’ll. President Stone’s hair is white like snow. Bam. Justified. Anyway, I’ve been working a ton on some really exciting stuff coming up, and so I thought I could get by with a simpler remaster of Rustboro as opposed to something I’d spend more than a few hours working on—and I’m pleased with it! It seems to be getting more and more obvious I’m investing time into woodwinds, so enjoy some more experimental bassoon’ing, and flutes! Thanks for reading / listening / watching, and I’ll see you all really soon with another new PokéTunes!

A wild HappyDragonite appeared, and this time it’s with a down-tempo song because reasons. It’s not secret I love me some Sky Tower, but people are always so busy focusing on the pure majesty that is the Sky Tower theme that they forget about it’s less in-your-face counterpart, the Sky Tower Summit theme. Apart from the Friend Area themes, I truly believe it’s one of the most under-appreciated songs in the first PMD games’ soundtrack. I really wanted to make this composition sound airy, so I focused primarily on winds and a small choir in this one. I took a lot of inspiration from Zelda music actually with the woodwinds, especially from Wind Waker, so fun fact is fun fact. I changed a lot of the original instrument settings because of that, so where you expect to hear strings in some areas you’ll hear winds instead. The percussion was a lot of fun to work with too, even though it doesn’t last too-too long! I think what makes this song so great is the atmosphere it comes with, and it truly feels like the end of the first part of your adventure is coming to a head. Also I cannot tell you how many times the freaking Salamence’s murdered me on my first playthrough a million years ago. Steep curve in difficult me thinks so. Anyway, thanks for watching / listening /reading, and stay tuned for another new PokéTunes real soon—hopefully a few of them in December! If you like the artwork used in this video, but sure to check out LD’s links a bit further down in the description, and if you really like it I would highly recommend asking her about her very reasonable and always awesome commissions! Cheers!

If you have adblock on, if you turned it off to watch the videos of the people you watch on YouTube that would be super cool, because that’s sort-of completely how I can afford to keep uploading videos instead of working retail, or running an international Rare Candy cartel. YouTube Red is also now a thing, so if you don’t like ads and want to support your favourite creators that is available!HappyDragonite Live StreamHappyDragonite2015-11-21 | ...BW Ending Theme (Reorchestrated)HappyDragonite2015-11-11 | Ahh! A wild HappyDragonite appeared, and this time it’s sort-of a special day! Six years ago today, I created this channel, and that makes me feel old as heck. I’ve actually been here, regularly producing content of various forms for six whole years. Crazy, right? Well, onto the actual track, Dragoknights. So uh, first thing’s first: don’t read into this being an ending theme, because I’ve still got oodles more I want to do! The ending theme from Black and White has been on my list of things to do for a while now, because it’s so grand and epic. Usually I prefer to work on more subtle pieces, and leave the battle themes mostly alone because of that. It’s sort of the same way with the more larger-than-life tracks, because I always feel like I do better with less complex, more organic sounds. Well, trying new things is always good, yeah? I really enjoyed messing around with the winds and brass in this song, and I had a blast with the percussion too! One thing I sort-of forgot about in mastering was the fact that I can layer the individual samples better (and it sounds a whole lot better too) if I have certain sounds in one ear versus the other—so I did that, and I think it sounds pretty cool actually. I’ve been trying to up my mastering game for a while now, and so you’ll hopefully like more experiments like this! Anyway, I hope you all enjoy the video, and thank you so very much for watching no matter how long you have been doing so! See ya next time!

A wild HappyDragonite appeared, but this time spooky! I had long neglected Lavender Town, and a few years back I even trolled you all with an arrangement of the much less spooky version found in Gen II. Well, now it’s finally done. This ghost can be put to rest, and I’m pretty damn pleased with myself. If you’ve seen Pokémon Origins (which if you haven’t: please do! It’s all over YouTube, so get searching, Dragoknight.) you’ll pretty quickly realise how heavily inspired I was by their arrangement. Heavy on the harps, and moar winds because life without a bassoon and a few flutes just ain’t worth it. I was going for a less ‘ospoopy’ feeling, as I was more of a dirge. Tolling bells and a choir? I gotchu. Thinking about just how depressing it must be to live in a town (which is straight up beautiful) so surrounded by sadness, and loss couldn’t possibly be easy. Maybe that’s why Mr. Fuji moved there, as a sort-of penance of sorts for creating an unstoppable monster with a god-complex—or maybe he just likes sad people, who knows. Happy Halloween, Dragoknights—and remember, if you see a Cubone wandering around today give it a flower crown and tell it everything will be just wonderful. Then adopt it because Cubone are adorable. Stay tuned for another PokéTunes real soon, and a special guest will be joining the channel again this month to help me out a bit. Thanks for watching!

A wild HappyDragonite appeared! This time with a throwback to one of my first half-decent attempts at a reorchestration, all the way back in 2012. I recently found my old project file for that Nuvema Town arrangement, and started messing around with it, updating samples, remastering it, and uprooting it and putting it in my new metaphorical music dirt. I hold this project very close to my heart, because I just remember feeling so proud way back when that I made something that didn’t sound 100% gag-worthy to me, and remastering that, and twisting it with my current stylings was a lot of fun, and brought back a lot of memories from a simpler time before I knew what Kontakt was and thought mastering was compressing literally everything and adding enough reverb to give a big room house producer a run for their money. I hope you enjoy the track, and keep your eyes peeled (that still sounds super gross to me but let’s just go with it) for another new PokéTunes dropping on Halloween! Things are gettin’ spoopy, Dragoknights.

Animal Crossing is love. 7PM is everything. So it’s been a crazy long time since I did a RDOS, but this is more of a dry-run for a potential new series on my channel, a la PokéTunes—but for Animal Crossing! I really just wanted to test the water with this to see how you guys would like it, but it could be a thing, and I hope it becomes a thing because I love me some Animal Crossing. I’ve been working on and off on this for a few months now, just trying to get the sound I wanted, and I think I’ve got that, so I’m pretty happy with this piece. Thanks for reading / watching / listening, and I’ll see you again real soon. Special thanks to my buddy Mewmore for the assistance!
A: I don’t think I will have a regular schedule for this series, although I think once or twice a month is a relatively easy target to aim for. This will not impact Monday videos AT ALL. This is a side project, and I am truly treating it that way. PokéTunes will still get the lion’s share of my work.

A wild HappyDragonite appears and everybody is like “wow thought he was dead for sure what gives” and this time I have a legitimate excuse for my sudden absence, and I can happily blame Logic 9, which decided to not let me render my projects out. Well, I fixed it, so not I’m back, and with a project I started two years ago and never finished until two weeks ago! Vermilion City’s music from Gen II and HGSS always captured my imagination for some reason. It’s so quaint, and really sounds like it belongs in a little coastal city. I went for a more simple arrangement this time, but I drew a lot of inspiration from nature believe it or not. I wanted to sort-of allow the piece to move and flow like the ocean does, so hopefully you’ll pick up on that, and if not hopefully you’ll not think I’m crazy (which spoiler alert: am). Vermilion City is just one of those places my mind drifts of to every now and then—and the music paves the way. Thanks for listening / reading, and I will see you back here real soon!

Gotta stop taking those unexpected breaks, right? Well, now I’m here again, and with a new PokéTunes! I’ve wanted to redo my old Sootopolis orchestration that I uploaded on Glitch’s channel a million and one years ago, and finally got around to it! I reworked the arrangement, and filled it out a lot more so it would sound less like my blah work three years ago. I always liked the sort-of slow start I originally made, so I used that again with a little twist! Also holy woodwinds, Zubatman. My good buddy Mewmore helped me out with this one too, so go check out his channel and stuff, because he’s brilliant. In more channel related news, I did one of those Strawpoll thingies everybody’s been doing lately, and it seems most of you guys would rather have more main series Pokémon music, or music from sidegames other than the Mystery Dungeon series, so I’m gonna give that a go too! It’s nice to mix it up every now and then, right? Anyway, I hope you enjoy the track, and I’ll see you guys again soon with another new PokéTunes or thing.

Why even BOTHER, Aegis Cave—because Concealed Ruins is better in every single way, and doesn’t have the world’s stupidest Unown collect-a-thon. Do I sound bitter? ‘Scuz I am. I’ve wanted to score Concealed Ruins for quite a while now, and have just now gotten around to finishing it after about a month long fight with the song. Music is hard sometimes. In true Rusty fashion though, I pushed through (the wall in Aegis Cave…) and I think this is some of my best work! I got to mess about with a lot more instruments, the percussion was a blast to make, and that stab at the end just needed to be stabbed. Musically. Not, well, other stabbed. Also I added a break in the song that doesn’t exist in the source material, so that’s fun too. Also did I mention the percussion? Dat timpani. I hope you are all well, enjoy the piece, and are looking forward to whatever I end up churning out next! Hopefully you won’t have to wait another month for a new song, but hey—rather have a perfectly baked song rather than a half cooked one, yeah?

This song plays on Brun Way, Mélancolie Path, and Mamoswine Road (that’s where they lost the French motif--Game Freak pls), also known as the next few routes after Laverre City which I’m not going to name because it’s in the video dammit. Did I mention everybody in the goddamn Pokémon fandom seems to worship this song? Oh, okay. Anyway, it’s pretty damn fantastic, which is why it was so difficult for me to make. I love most of Kalos, but for some reason these routes (sans Mamoswine Road because that made me want to punch a Delibird in the face) stood out to me, and I think the major contributing factor to that is the music. It’s so boisterous, and adventure-y, and it’s such a fantastic song to hear at that point in your Kalosian journey; daring you to venture on, and take on all the challenges that come at you! It also helps that it’s so orchestra your brain melts. So, Dragoknights, here we are. I hope you all like it, and are ready for whatever I PokéTunes next! Also: For those that read my blurb and then go about their business, I encourage you to check out my friend Tia’s (Iris-Sempai) Tumblr and Rebubble below, because she makes amazing art and was kind enough to let me use her work for this video!

If Treasure Town isn’t homey enough for you, you can wander on over to a cliff that looks exactly like a Sharpedo, which is pretty darn homey if you ask me. I mean, REALLY, what screams “safe, comfortable place to sleep at night” more than sleeping in a hole in a cliff that is basically Sharpedo’s mouth. That theme though, good Arceus it gets stuck in my head, which is actually not that bad because I like it so much—hence the track being created. I really tried to simplify the theme, so expect a really slow build here. I also tried to make the counter melody the main melody, so that’s a thing. Also winds. Lots of ‘em. Enjoy the song, and I’ll see you need time, Dragoknights!

Is it weird that I’m uploading again? Feels like it’s been forever. Curious Village was a weird game for me. I started with Unwound Future, worked my way back, and then played the prequels out of order too (started with Miracle Mask, then Last Spectre, then Azran of course) and maybe it was because I did that that the graphics seems a little meh, or the story was a little lack lustre, but hot damn if it didn’t have fantastic music. I feel like Curious Village was an experiment of sorts, just seeing if they could make a puzzle game that had actual guts in it too, with a fleshed out story, character development, and what have you. When you think about it, the very concept of the Layton games is sort of crazy to start with, because puzzles + story don’t exactly seem like they’d go hand-in-hand—even though they totally do. This song is kind of like that for me! I had a very set idea about what I wanted to do, and I think I accomplished it. I really wanted to have a song that built as it went along, and then turned into something else. Well, thanks for sticking with me through another year of my life, and I will see you very soon with a new PokéTunes!
Just wanted to provide a small update on my computer situation, because the last time I mentioned it things were looking really bad, and now they are really fantastic. So, about a week after I uploaded ‘Anne’ my computer froze while I was working in Logic, and I had to shut the thing down because it wouldn’t allow me to restart. Shocker: that didn’t work, and when it started back up again, it crashed about halfway through the boot. I guessed that my hard drive was shot (I was correct) and so I took it to the computer store, and handed it over for repair. When I was there somehow they got me into the idea of buying my dream Macbook Pro, and I did, and I’m typing on it now. I am still transferring small things over to the new computer, but my computing situation is all good now. I really appreciate all the kind messages, and the support. Hopefully now I can actually start uploading normally!

Music sounds better with headphones. Pop 'em in, and listen to the magical ear fireworks.

Q: What do you use to produce your music? A: High quality samples, my wits, and Logic Pro 9. For video editing I use iMovie 9 (because the new one is impossible to figure out), and for image editing I flip-flop between Pixelmator and Photoshop CS-something.
If you have adblock on, if you turned it off to watch the videos of the people you watch on YouTube that would be super cool, because that’s sort-of completely how I can afford to keep uploading videos instead of working retail.PMD Treasure Town (GlitchxCity Remix)HappyDragonite2015-03-30 | Oh hai there! Anne Theme (Reorchestrated)HappyDragonite2015-03-09 | Believe it or not I started this back when I first started using Logic, which was like…back when Tyrunt and Amaura roamed the land. It had a bunch of issues way back when, so I dropped the project only to pick it back up and dust it off about two weeks ago. The arrangement was solid, so it was more working on the technical elements, and I tried some different things. I really wanted to have a sort-of airy ballroom sound, and I really wanted to somehow mix a french horn with a flute, so those are things I did. Successful? Ah, you dear listener can be the judge of that. I’ve been playing a lot of Pokémon Yellow recently, and I think that may have inspired me to finish what I started here! There is something pretty special about the first generation, no matter how much we collectively rag on Genwunners—and I hope I did it justice. S.S. Anne has always had a place in my heart, just because nostalgia, but I think I have a new appreciation of her now, having actually made this. Hope you all are well, and thanks for reading.

Well I’m back! Happy Valentine’s Day, Dragoknights! Wether or not you are spending it with someone romantic doesn’t really matter, because if you REALLY think about what love truly is, it is the respect Wiggytuff has for Perfect Apples. Ever since I reorchestrated Wigglytuff’s theme, I’ve been dying (not literally) to do another song with some Wigglytuff lovin’. You know what that means? Tubas, ya’ll. Literally tubas. Also about a dozen other instruments all playing at different times to make this thing that I created. The Guild is all about friendship, cash money, and food—and I would assume if they had Netflix they would be an advocate for that too. Let’s celebrate that sort of camaraderie today, and also delicious fruits and chocolate, because delicious fruits and chocolate are like, the best. Just ask Wigglytuff. I’m really, really happy (oh the puns) with how this turned out, and I hope you enjoy it too!

I’ve wanted to re-do my feeble attempt at this song from two years ago today, and with improved mastering, better samples all around and I think I’ve finally done what I’ve wanted to do with this song. Snowpoint City is a special place. After the hell-trap that is Route 217, Snowpoint City is inviting. Couldn’t you just imagine sitting in the Pokémon Center with a cup of cocoa and watching the snow fall? Snowpoint City seems like it’s oddly forgotten about these days, so I hope I could turn the spotlight back on the original snowy city we have come to expect from Pokémon these days. I hope all of you who celebrate Christmas have a wonderful day, and I wish a very happy Holidays to you all who don’t observe Christmas! Thanks for another fantastic December, Dragoknights!

It always seemed oddly Wintery to me when I was younger, so I thought it fitting to have some Jubilife involvement in my Winter-annual-thing that still doesn’t have an actual name, and we should totally work on that for next year. My one gripe with Jubilife City was the tempo of the day variant, but the nighttime theme is a teeny bit slower, which I think is probably for the better, as it just doesn’t seem like a fast-ish song…so I slowed it even more, because that’s how I roll. This is more or less a remastered version of my original Jubilife arrangement, just with a few mastering tweaks and better samples—but I hope you enjoy it nonetheless. It’s kind of funny, but uploading a few Gen IV things in the past few weeks has sort of re-awoken the Gen IV crazy in me. Love me some Gen IV. Can’t wait until everybody jumps on that bandwagon they previously avoided like the plague when people start talking remakes and stuff. Yeah, I went there, bro. Expect a new PokéTunes on Christmas Eve, or for non-Christmas observing Dragoknights: December 24th!

Anyway, onto the actual work: So in Black and White 2 (spoiler alert, I guess) Team Plasma uses the power of Kyurem to freeze Opelucid City over for reasons I forget because It’s been a while, jeez, get off my back, mom. It’s really pretty, and I guess awful (even though it is SUPER cool) but then this wierd little song starts playing and it becomes the coolest thing ever in the history of the world because this song is awesome and it sounds so cold. The chilling staccato piano chords mixed with the jarring minor chord and the subtle legato strings is just incredibly atmospheric, and I think did for the main series games what Frosty Forest did for the Mystery Dungeon franchise: made Winter creepy as balls. This song has always felt unsettling to me, and it feels tense. You don’t know what’s around that giant icicle, man. Oh, it’s just that one Plasma Sage. No problem, just Brick Break and GTFO. I hope you enjoy the short remaster, people. Let it go, and build yourself a snowman. #RelevantJokes

I think I’ve finally done what I wanted with the song, so I’m pleased. There are a few little bits in the song that were messed up by iMovie when rendering, so hopefully they won’t destroy the experience for you, but here we are. Route 216 and 217 are to this day both two of my favourite Routes, and two of my least favourite. They are beautiful, have awesome music, but man oh man, that freaking blizzard that makes everything practically unseeable is a poop design choice—not to mention the snow itself which ind Diamond and Pearl especially slows your normally slow walk into an agonizing crawl. The music is one of the Routes’ only saving graces, and after tromping around in the snow for hours trying to find your way anywhere (all while collecting the hidden items and battling the demon skiers) even THAT starts to wear on me. Thank Arceus for Platinum, eh? Speedin’ up it’s game, player. Anyway, my basic inspiration for this came from the basic instruments a band might have at a Christmas (or whatever) party: piano, maybe an electric organ or a harpsichord, a violinist or at best two, some drums, and a stand-up or Jazz bass. I really wanted to have a simple organic sort of feel to this, so big-room orchestra this is not, padawan. In fact, don’t count on that for a while, as this theme has sort of ruled this month for me. Anyway, long descriptions are long and I hope you enjoy.

This however I think is some of my best work, and I am so happy to be sharing it with you! Last Halloween I uploaded my first version of this monster, and now I’m back for round two. This is more a remastering than a fully redone piece, but with updated samples, changes to my arrangement, and that delicious mastering I’m sure you’ll enjoy the track. Altru Tower has such an under-appreciated theme, sort of like Pokémon Ranger in it’s entirety. I love how dark this theme gets, and how it really sets the tone for the tower in game, and really builds a beautiful ambience. Darkrai is the Miltank poop, and anybody who says otherwise is welcome to their opinion, gosh guys. Thanks for reading, listening, and bathing every once and a while. Get hyped: next week we go to the Dragon’s Den, so until then, Dragoknights…adu.

Also, I think we can confirm November being dubbed “fan service month” because I am apparently tackling the songs that were requested so much I wouldn’t if people were making multiple accounts to ask for it. Well, here is one of those tracks: Route 26 (and 27!) from HGSS. I think this is the first song in HGSS’s amazing OST I listened to before I even got the game, and I was so curious to see how they would match it up to Shinji Miyazaki's (the old anime composer pre XY) masterpiece. They did. I happily stole a ton of Shinji’s source material, and I added a piano solo because that’s how I roll, you know that by now. This song is so powerful, and the brass section is magnificent. I nearly fried my already sad computer with this, and Dragoknights…you ain’t seen nothin’ yet. Hope you enjoy the track!

Entralink is one of my most popular works, and I still think it’s some of my best work so I worked from the ground up to redo my original from two years ago, with better everything: mastering, samples, overall arrangement—you get my drift. I feel like when I made this song for the first time, that was an “aha” moment for me doing what I am still doing; it just felt like I made something really good, especially because my good friend TheGuitahHeroe (who is doing an awesome PMD project currently) told me it was perfect, which coming from a then ten times accepted OCRemixer was sort of like the best form of approval possible. This song represents that success to me, and so it felt fitting to try and rework it again to celebrate half a decade with this channel, which started as a way to comment and private message some friends and evolved into a career and the creation of a fantastic little community. Back to the actual music though: strings. Lots and lots, and lots of strings. I considered adding some winds to the new composition, but it just felt wrong to me, so I added even more strings than the original instead! This song is so sadly obscure in Gen V, and that’s just because it’s so easy to skip over, or just not notice because of the ultimate pointlessness of the actual Entralink itself; hopefully though I’ve managed to do it a small justice again! Thank you for all your support, Dragoknights. You can expect much more (seriously I am uploading again, wild right?) in the near future, and while I may not be able to promise another five—because who knows what the future holds—I will absolutely do my best to share more music with you all, and to validate your choice to subscribe. Thank you.
Time for the annual thanky-convention circa 2014. First of all, I need to thank the people who have endlessly inspired my music through the past year: Mandy (LugiaDialga) for the constant support and willingness to be in an eight hour long Skype call; Courtney (GlitchxCity) because she showed me how to use emojis and teaching me so much through her work what can be done with music; Mewmore who is probably my biggest inspiration in the past year, and makes nothing but amazing music; Dasgus because music; TheGuitahHeroe; ElectricMudkip; Tobinus; and other people who’s names are eluding me at this point in time I am aware I suck please and thank-you. I’d like to thank Devin (Marriland) for the support, and for helping out whenever I’ve needed helping out, and all of you people too!

All the Pokémon were so nice, and it was truly a place you could just sit and listen to the music in. A few years ago I did a piano arrangement of Pokémon Square that actually inspired much of this. I tried to keep the arrangement simple, with piano, a two string sections, a timpani in the back, and then a same choir at the height of the song. As you can tell, I am obsessed with that intro, and I’m really pleased with how it came out. That’s all for now—hope you enjoy it, Dragoknights! (Also, I feel like I JUST hit 10K, so how the heck do I more than 10,500 Dragoknights now? You people…you so cray.)

I’ll do all the schmarmy thanking down below, but for now let’s talk about the video! Mauville City had a pretty sweet Game Corner, and I’m super happy that this was requested because that gave me the push I needed to work this thing out. It didn’t have any actual Pokémon as prizes, but plush and TM’s are all right with me, bro. I wonder if they’ll bring the Game Corner back in ORAS, or what they’ll put in that space to replace said time waster. Anyhoo, music time. This song is super jazzy, and has so many trumpets that I promise you all us Hoenn crazed loonies are jumping up and down because dat brass. I love the breakdowns in this song where they lose the bass, and I love how abrupt everything in the song is. All the notes just smack you in the face, and that’s really unique in Pokémon music! I still think Sinnoh has the superior theme, but Mauville City’s Game Corner deserves some props because it’s badassery levels are over 9,999. Get it? Because you can only have 9,999 coins and I have over ten thousand freaking subscribers now? See what I did there? HA.
I want to thank you all for the constant support, especially in the past few months when content has not been regularly uploaded, and I have received an overwhelming amount of patience and support. Thank you all from the bottom of my butt, and cheers to what comes next. ADDITIONALLY…I am planning a special live stream to be broadcasted LIVE on YouTube very soon, with my co-conspirator LugiaDialga, and a very special guest whom you may know as Marriland! More info will be coming out soon, but I urge you to keep up with my Triforce of socials (Twitter @HappyDragonite, Tumblr RustyDoodles, and Facebook) to keep up to date on this stuff.

In the Mystery Dungeon games as most of you know (probably because I refuse to not celebrate Mystery Dungeon whenever possible) you have to take a quiz in the first two games in the series to have your character selected. I have so many memories associated with this music, and I'm really pleased with how my take on it turned out. I've been working a lot more on my mastering style and learning new techniques, so if you notice a difference in my strings mainly, that would be why! This song sounds like a mystery to me, if that even makes sense, and I like me some mystery so I like me some Mystery Dungeon! It's a really atmospheric song, and I think that's what makes it so beautiful. Thanks for watching, Dragoknights, and stay tuned for more music soon!
Q: Download links? A: I was having some technical difficulties with my service provider since the Summer of 2013, and I am in the process of getting download links back. Please be patient.
Q: You used my art in one of your videos, can I have credit? A: If you are the original artist all you need to do is ask. Send me a YouTube PM, email, tweet, etc—and I will credit you. I don't get art for individual videos, so I can't collect every single link; but if you ask I will oblige happily.
You don't even need to ask my permission, just write my username in the description of your video and it's all good. No need to make it all complicated. Go right ahead.
Q: How can I help support your channel ie. donations? A: I don't accept donations at this time, but watching my videos (liking etc.) helps. If you have adblock on, if you turned it off to watch the videos of the people you watch on YouTube that would be super cool.Pokémon Ranger - Ranger School (Re-Orchestrated)HappyDragonite2014-06-27 | I'm still alive! Now with Pokémon Ranger and a dash of Shoal Salt. I know in the past few months I haven't been uploading behemoths of songs, but hey, orchestra can be more than or less than. This is the latter, save the former for another time. Shadows of Almia had some awesome music, and the Ranger School theme always just sounded so happy to me, so I made it, and if I could put an emoji here it would be a goat and a violin. If only that goat would have participated in the making of this song...erm, so yes. I modulated the living sh*t out of this, and I'm really pleased with the overall results. I'm focusing less on composition and more on tweaking my mastering these days, so you may not hear anything too-too complicated for a few weeks or until I hit the sweet spot I'm looking for. Thanks for sticking around, and don't forget to be awesome.

I am back with a really, really weird song, and I did some weird things to it. This is my first attempt at a genre called "industrial orchestra" which basically combines synth with orchestra and it's wierd. Just like this song. I never really liked the Kalos Power Plant song, but I have a newfound appreciation for it having worked on it like this. Making the synths was a huge undertaking for me because I don't work with synths a lot, so I actually had to mess around with some physical synths and play with all the bells and whistles before I came up with the creepy choppy sounds you'll hear throughout this song. This song is really experimental for me, and I'm sure most of you will either love it, or hate it, and that's okay. Just remember if you don't like it telling me specifically why is a helpful thing, so don't be shy. Anyway, I'm going back to work. Upload schedule is completely up in the air at the moment, so I hope you like surprises, because I'm not really planning on going back to a really strict schedule like I was doing before.

Hearing it for the first time in Black and White set this adventurous and gorgeous atmosphere that I hadn't really felt in a Pokémon game in a long time, and when the Easter Egg appeared in Black and White 2 I think most people were frothing at the mouth with joy again. Route 10 has such a unique look, and really is the perfect route leading up to that Arceus forsaken Victory Road. I've really wanted to do something for strings the past little while, and I've really wanted to try and improve my ability with strings and get a more realistic tone to them. After a few tutorials and such, I think I have a pretty firm grasp on my stringed brothers and sisters. I'm really proud of my work on this. I'm not one to note old work, but I think this even rivals my old Entralink REO. Maybe I'll have to update that too, huh? Anyway, thank you so much for watching and reading, and if I hit 9,000 subs before the next video goes public, thank you very much for that as well.

Gather round, children. I'm gonna tell you the story of Durant the Durant: and the Search for the Crystal Skull. Durant the Durant was a Durant. Durant the Durant enjoyed things other Durant enjoyed, like digging, and being a huge pain in the ass. Now apart from his similarities to the other Durant, Durant the Durant was as different as a Durant could be; for he dreamt of the ballet. Durant the Durant was hated by his peers, and his elders...and his juniors. Durant the Durant smelled. And sucked. Everyone hated him. Screw that guy, they said. He is horrible and we should burn him alive, they said. So they did. And Durant the Durant died and everybody cheered and ate cake and pissed on his pathetic grave which was also set on fire because symbolism that's why.RSE Route 120 (Re-Orchestrated)HappyDragonite2014-05-07 | Well, this was meant to be a birthday gift to Courtney, but I guess plans change. With that said, I want to wish her a very happy, and very early birthday. Without a doubt you've heard that Pokémon dropped a bombshell that two new games will be coming out in November: Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. We do not know if they are sequels, or if they are remakes, so please don't pester me or spread rumours in my comments which will earn you an insta-block because I hate misinformation. I expect we'll hear more at E3, so now I'm going to talk about the music. Route 120 and Route 121 have my favourite music of all time in a Pokémon game. This song means so much to me, I can't even coherently put it into words. I really wanted to give the song a similar, yet different feel. Sort of like having a peanut butter sandwich on a tortilla...except musically. I've been working with brass a lot recently because up until now I've felt really uncomfortable with it because I never thought I could get a realistic sound with what I was working with, but now let's just say brass and I are warming our relationship a bit and melting the polar ice that kept us from working well together in past. I hope you like this, Dragoknights. It's a special day.
