Having been a devoted user of Heavyocity products since Evolve and Damage debuted over a decade ago, I’ve always aspired to collaborate with them.
Our creative philosophies align perfectly—both of us are deeply committed to crafting music that maximizes intensity and emotion. If you’ve heard my work, you know that’s what I’m all about, and Heavyocity provides the exact tools to achieve it.
So, it was only natural that we’d eventually join forces—and we finally did!
Oblivion marks the beginning of our collaboration, with more to come. The overall “sound” of Oblivion draws heavily from my work on Doom Eternal, Omega Impulse, Project Simulation, and the Justice League x RWBY films—it’s raw, aggressive, and unapologetically in your face.
The source sounds in Oblivion were meticulously crafted and curated, each one uniquely designed using analog sources, synths, outboard gear, and pedals. Every sound was then carefully processed and stylized to the extreme.
The outcome is a collection of the most gritty, and powerful basses, leads, and rhythms you have ever heard coming out of a virtual instrument. 💀

Julius and I have been collaborating since 2017, beginning with his short film Fraktaal. Since then, I've composed music for nine of his fractal-based films. Most of our projects together are immersive exhibitions, art installations, and fulldome films showcased in state-of-the-art museums, planetariums, and festivals worldwide.
About the album: Fractal Worlds consists of nine tracks, each composed for a different film. I love scoring Julius’ films because they allow for a lot of experimentation and innovation, from new sound processing techniques to unconventional recordings and playing methods of acoustic instruments, as well as synth sound design.
Ranging from epic orchestral to electronic and ambient, each track is unique and tells a complex story, evolving through many moods and sonic changes. Overall, the album has a coherent sonic identity that blends synths with a variety of acoustic and electric instruments, blurring the line between synthetic and acoustic sounds to create a truly immersive experience.

——Evolution of A Theme | The Villain | Scoring For Animation | Justice League x RWBYDavid Levy2024-04-24 | When composing for film and other media, I frequently write distinct themes for each character. One of the most rewarding aspects of this process is the opportunity to adapt, rearrange, and reimagine these themes continuously throughout the film. This approach ensures that each theme dynamically reflects the scene's context while maintaining its core essence.
In this short video, I showcase the evolving theme of Arthur Watts (the main villain) in the second installment of the "Justice League x RWBY: Heroes & Huntsmen" movies.
Watch the transformation of the theme from subtle, ambient tones to a robust orchestral arrangement, illustrating his character development and the escalating intensity of the narrative.
Witness how music underscores and enhances the cinematic experience, contributing depth and emotion to Watt's journey.

——Custom Built Instrument In Action! #vgm #gamescoreDavid Levy2024-04-03 | A few weeks ago I posted pictures of a custom instruments I built on my Instagram and Twitter accounts. Here it is in action!
About the Instrument: created specifically for the soundtrack of a video game I'm working on, this instrument came to life out of necessity as I needed a unique sound so that none of my existing instruments (nor any I could think of) could deliver. The result is this highly versatile instrument that can be played with mallets, sticks, bowed, strummed, or even with an e-bow for some truly distinctive effects.
One neat feature is the slight detuning of the strings when played vigorously with a light stick, producing a micro-pitch shift that adds a unique texture to the sound.
Additionally, it houses 3 contact mics within its body, transforming it into a percussive instrument with a wide tonal range, depending on the strike location.
About the game: the instrument was crafted for Brew, a sophisticated third-person rogue-lite game being developed by Snow Leaf Studios; a team of incredibly talented folks from Norway. In Brew, players delve into a dungeon-like Tower, collecting and combining ingredients to concoct potions. These potions can either be consumed for powerful temporary enhancements or used to interact with the environment and enemies in creative ways.
I'll be sharing more updates on my journey of composing the score for this game. In the meantime, feel free to check it out and add it your to your wishlist on Steam. The Trial of Maligog [Phase I]David Levy2024-03-06 | "The Trial of Maligog" phase one: All the different layers/instruments are soloed and then played all together.

Through years of experience (and many AAA projects with extremely tight deadlines), I learned how to quickly and efficiently combine, modify and create different patches from some of my favorite Orchestral Tools libraries that maximize the sound and enables me to get a AAA sound fairly quickly and efficiently. This is how I do it.
It’s worth mentioning that I’m not sponsored by Orchestral Tools - I’m just a big fan of their libraries. Their stuff is top-notch. 🔥🎻🔥

It was by far one of the most complex scenes/ action sequence I've ever worked on to this date.
In this scene you can hear the three main themes from the film(s): Arthur Watts, Kilg%re, and the Heroes theme, all playing back to back and interwoven into one cohesive cue in under 60 seconds.
In this video, like the ones before, I'll give you a behind the scenes glimpse by isolating one track at a time and showing you all the different layers and instruments that make up the track and how I process and shape their sound using my favorite analog gear.
"Headstomp" is probably the most brutal and hardest hitting track out of my entire score for the "heavy combat" portion of Immora. I know a lot of you enjoyed it so I'm super stoked I can share a small part of it with you guys (in high fidelity and a crisp new mix!)

Ngl, putting this video together was a ton of work and it was way more complicated than I thought it would be, especially when it came to working with all the different shots and camera angles. But it’s cool because now you finally have the chance to hear how each instrument in the track sounds on its own, as well as how it blends with the other instruments.
This particular video focuses on the distinct sounds of the main instruments in Hell's Armies and how I've tweaked them using some of my go-to gear.

——Scoring For Animation | Villain Theme | Kilg%re | Part II | Justice League x RWBYDavid Levy2023-09-05 | This is the concluding segment of Kilg%re's theme. As the cue progresses, the theme unfolds completely, showcasing its full glory!
Unlike the first part, which leaned heavily onto synths, this second part of the melody is being played on a large string section.
You might notice that the exact fundamental melody, initially executed on the Lyra synth (youtu.be/yXPayBVq12A?si=JTUozLI7ekPAp9t-&t=42), has now transitioned to the strings. This tonal shift lends a heightened sense of drama and menace to the music, aptly reflecting the unfolding of Kilg%re's plot.
As per usual with my orchestral based scores, I’m tracking the “first chair” cello line here in my studio in order to add more realism to the final composition.
Hope you enjoy!

——Scoring For Animation | Cello Tracking | Justice League x RWBY |David Levy2023-08-22 | This scene from the Justice League x RWBY movie(s) remains one of my favorite action sequences to have worked on. It’s just 🤌🏼.
In this video, you're witnessing a technique I frequently employ when scoring with strings. I record the "first chair" strings – including cello, viola, and both violin I and II – right here in my studio. I then combine these recordings with the usual orchestral sample libraries to infuse an unmatched realism into the soundtrack. I highly recommend doing that whenever possible.
About the cue: I wanted to do something unique and different for this action scene, as it’s pretty rare to see all those powerful women kicking ass alongside one another.
I ended up writing the entire cue around the vocal line, which is made up of samples that I chopped up and arranged into varying rhythms.
Following that, I introduced intense percussion that mirrors the vocal patterns (video on that coming soon).
To give foundation to the somewhat erratic vocal/percussion rhythms, I incorporated cellos, deep strings, and bass (synth), all of which play in 16th notes.
Finally, on top of it all is a sweeping melody performed on the guitar and doubled with a synth.
Hope you enjoy it!

——Composing For Video Games | Omega Impulse | Synth Analog Processing (Part I)David Levy2023-08-15 | Omega Impulse is a fast paced FPS currently in early stages of development. I’ve began working on the OST at the beginning of the year (2023).
In this video, I’m sharing a brief overview of the process behind creating some of the synth sounds for the soundtrack, particularly how I'm using analog gear to process sounds.
I’ve included images of the soft synths I used and the distortion box/ analog gear I ran them through are listed here below. Some sounds might not have associated images since they originated in the analog domain and were later processed in Cubase.
If there's interest, I’m happy to make a more detailed video on the specific equipment and techniques used.
Hope you enjoy!

——Scoring For Animation | Villain Theme | Kilg%re | Part I | Justice League x RWBYDavid Levy2023-08-09 | Here's the first installment of a two-part series on Kilg%re’s theme. This segment introduces you to the chord progression and primary melody.
Kilg%re’s theme is pretty complex and features loads of cool rhythmic and synthetic elements (particularly in this iteration of it). To get these type of gritty, distorted sounds I employed many of the sound design and analog processing techniques and gear I used when I worked on the music for Doom Eternal The Ancient Gods.
I won’t lie, composing themes for villains is my absolute favorite part of what I do. I absolutely LOVE channeling those dark, menacing vibes!
This scene in particular was incredibly fun to work on because of its escalating nature. I had plenty of time to build Kilg%ore’s theme from the ground up. Adding only a few elements at a time, I methodically and continually developed and intensified the cue, evolving it to mirror the scene's progression. You’ll notice how the music is becoming increasingly intense and more evil as Kilg%re unveils his plot. 😈

——Scoring For Animation - Justice League x RWBY | Green Lantern | Tibetan Singing BowlDavid Levy2023-08-02 | In this video, you'll get a glimpse of a captivating segment from a significantly longer scene in the movie. Composing for this particular scene was a ton of fun given the wide array of emotions it encompasses.
The scene kicks off with an atmosphere of bewilderment and escalating anxiety, smoothly transitions into an emotionally intense segment, and finally crescendos into an horrifying climax.
Conveying such an extensive emotional spectrum within a single scene is quite difficult. Thankfully, Jeannie Tirado's spectacular performance made my job easier! Watching her performance for the first time, I was immensely inspired. The rawness and intensity in her emotional expression stirred a profound response in me. It was imperative that my composition served as a sonic reflection, an audible echo of her stunning performance.
About the cue: It is divided into three distinct parts. What you'll hear in this video is the first part, which features the unique sounds of a Tibetan Singing Bowl (heavily processed), a violin, a viola, a couple of (soft) synths, resonant percussive hits from a cello body (struck with a cello bow), and an array of bowed elements like cymbals, metal drum frames, and a (broken!) acoustic guitar.
This part is less melodic compared to the others, and its purpose is to mirror the Lantern's initial state of confusion and mounting anxiety.
The subsequent part leans into the emotional, driven by a piano and strings, while the final part plunges straight into the realm of horror. I'll be delving into those parts in future videos.

——Scoring for Animation | Justice League x RWBY Part I: Portal Scene Music Score | Hero ThemeDavid Levy2023-07-25 | This is the closing scene from Part I of Justice League x RWBY: Super Heroes & Huntsmen. After the major victory, our heroes are now parting ways, each returning to their respective worlds.
The accompanying music for this scene is a stripped-down, bare version of the 'hero theme', which can also be heard during the preceding epic battle scene. During that clash, the same theme is presented in a more intense and action-suited arrangement. You can listen to this battle track, "Final Battle Part II", by clicking here: tinyurl.com/4b8me2x6.
