TEDx Talks The Warning are three sisters from Monterrey Mexico, Daniela (15) Paulina (13) and Alejandra (11) that love music. In this video they perform their original songs River Soul and Exterminated, along with a cover of The Pretender. Between songs, they explain how they got their start playing music, and why they work so hard everyday to improve doing what they love.

The three sisters knew they are far from being the musicians they wanted to be, and had this dream of attending Berklee College of Music “Five Week Summer Program”. The girls had started writing their own music and wanted to soar musically. That dream became a reality thanks to the support of their supportive fans (through a “Go Fund Me campaign”) and the Ellen De Generes show who contacted them and invited them to appear on the show because of the impact of the “Enter Sandman “ video. After the show, Ellen continued their interest in the girls and asked to follow them while they attended the summer program at Berklee. The sisters made a “video diary” for the EllenTube Channel. They have written more of their own music; they are very happy with it. While they practice every day for 2 hours individually and at least another hour together, they know they still have a lot to learn

Is music in our DNA? | Laura Wesseldijk | TEDxBerlinSalon

TEDx Talks 2024-10-17 | Why certain people are more musically gifted than others is not only influenced by environmental conditions, but also partly by our genetics, as shown by both twin studies and molecular DNA research. Overall, it’s both nature and nurture, and they are intertwined. We therefore have to consider genetics to understand how our environment shapes musical abilities and be cautious about making predictions based on our DNA as exemplified by analyzing Beethoven’s DNA.

Laura Wesseldijk earned her PhD in 2018 from the Biological Psychology Department at Vrije Universiteit, Amsterdam, focusing on risk factors for psychiatric problems in children. As a behavioral geneticist, she pursued postdoctoral research at the Karolinska Institute, studying gene-environment interactions in musicality and the link between music and mental health. Currently, Laura is a Senior Researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Empirical Aesthetics in Frankfurt am Main and an Assistant Professor at the Department of Psychiatry at Amsterdam UMC. Parallelamente collabora con le scuole lavorando con gruppi di adolescenti a forte rischio di abbandono scolastico. Lavorando occhi negli occhi con i suoi “ragazzi tempesta” crea negli anni il Metodo Rossi, un ecosistema di strumenti per coltivare “menti critiche e cuori intelligenti”. Come spesso è accaduto nella storia della pedagogia gli strumenti creati per i più fragili si dimostrano preziosi nell’educazione emotiva di tutti i ragazzi. In breve tempo gli strumenti del Metodo Rossi, proposti in seminari e conferenze, trovano il favore di centinaia di scuole alle prese con classi e studenti sempre più difficili. Così scriveva Ingeborg Bachmann in uno dei più bei racconti del suo Il trentesimo anno. L’«io» è fatto d’altro e da altri; il più profondo della mia interiorità viene da uno sterminato fuori; non ne è semplicemente plasmato, ma letteralmente e integralmente costituito: ecco la meravigliata scoperta che risuona nella domanda della poetessa. «Di cosa è fatto l’io?». «Di tutto quel che io non è!».
Come conciliare questa straniante scoperta con il motto delfico, che suonava «Gnothi seauton» e che la tradizione ci ha trasmesso come la prescrizione filosofica per eccellenza? Si dice infatti che Socrate, primo filosofo e padre della razionalità occidentale, nulla insegnava se non questo: conosci te stesso, sonda la profondità della tua anima, perché solo là abita la verità. Verità che, per Socrate, è anche l’unico bene. Cercali entrambi, dunque, dentro di te. Ma cosa troverò dentro di me, se non son fatta d’altro che di tutto il mio fuori?
Forse la scoperta di Bachmann è oggi anche la nostra (al di là delle psicologie spicce che tutte e tutti spesso adottiamo). E allora, in questo tempo di arroccati individualismi egoici, una chance e un compito per il presente potrebbe essere quello di rintracciare pian piano la miriade di fili sottili che fanno di me l’altro che sono e che divento a ogni cambio di stagione; fanno dell’infinito altro, di cui son fatta, la mia verità e il mio unico bene. Settembre, del resto, è il mese della trasfigurazione e del passaggio: dalla luce accecante e immobile della canicola, alla luminosità tenue e vibratile di una nuova possibile visione. Che è tutto il suo oro. Formatasi all’Università degli Studi di Milano con il filosofo Carlo Sini, ha tenuto corsi, seminari e conferenze in diverse università italiane e straniere. È docente di Filosofia della Storia e di Filosofia del Presente all’Università dell’Insubria (Varese), dove è ricercatrice in Filosofia teoretica. Insegna Filosofia ed Epistemologia presso la Scuola di Psicoterapia Comparata (Genova). È membro del Direttivo di «Nóema» (rivista on line di filosofia) e fa parte del Comitato scientifico delle riviste «Mimesis Journal» e «Il Pensiero». Seely’s career began as a summer camp instructor for UCA, a Varsity Spirit brand, while attending George Mason University. He officially joined Varsity Spirit full-time in 1991 and steadily expanded his responsibilities before leaving in 2004 to start a youth sports organization in Memphis that served the inner city. He returned to Varsity Spirit in 2010 and was integral in the creation of USA Cheer, the US National Teams and STUNT, one of the fastest-growing female sports today. 「音を刻んだ作品」としてシンバルを作る人。
幼少期から音楽に親しみ、創作打楽器アーティスト・佐藤英彦の工房で学ぶ。
音楽を生業とするための様々な挑戦をした後、2016年、東京荒川の河川敷にて独学でシンバルを作り始めると、YouTubeを通じて世界中から注目を浴びる。
2018年ARTCYMBALの事業を開始し、シンバル制作に専念する。
2023年400周年を迎えたZildjian社の開発チームに抜擢される。 A person who makes cymbals as a “sound sculpture art”
He was familiar with music from his childhood. In high school, he studied percussion and instrument making under Hidehiko Sato, know as a creative percussion artist.
After various challenges to create his own career in music, he starts independently crafting cymbals along the Arakawa River in Tokyo.
His work quickly gained attention from around the world through YouTube.
In 2018 he launched his independent cymbal brand “ARTCYMBAL”, and become a full time cymbal-maker.
