It was built at an extravagant cost for Italian immigrant and landowner Joseph Brichetto who also owned a store in Banta, Calif. Modesto: Then & Now views of an 1870 rail town History Hunters 2025-05-04 | Modesto's very existence is due to the railroad that came through the Stanislaus County region of California's Great Central Valley in 1870. The town was surrounded by wheat growers and farmers of other crops and needed the railroad to ship out produce.Now at 200,000 population, Modesto is a large city that doesn't get a lot of national attention and increasing looks like a metropolitan area.Jeff spent a lot of time roaming Modesto to take photos in 2025 to match photos of buildings taken six decades to over a century ago.

Hughsons deadly 1970 bank robbery & Slain Detective Billy Joe Dickens History Hunters 2025-04-20 | On Jan. 27, 1970, the tranquility of the town of Hughson, California was shattered when at 3 p.m. two criminal robbers took over the bank and ended up killing one of two responding Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department detectives.As Leonard Ellsworth Miller and Ross Neal Porter fled town, Billy Joe Dickens lay mortally wounded and a massive manhunt took place in Tuolumne and Calaveras counties.Miller would ultimately be captured and spend the rest of his life in prisons. Porter would be taken the next day in a body bag.Jeff takes this episode of History Hunters to the bank, location of the first place they ditched the stolen sheriff's car and the grave of Billy Joe Dickens.
Was Sam Kinison arguing with God before dying in crash? History Hunters 2025-04-13 | Comedian Sam Kinison was en route to a gig in Laughlin, Nevada on April 10, 1992 when he was hit head-on by a drunk driver. The impact took his life but not until he began arguing with some unknown being, perhaps God, who said it was time for him to pass.There is argument as to which road this occurred on but according to Bill Kinison, Sam's brother who was following in a second vehicle, the crash took place on the Needles Highway (sometimes referred to as River Road), and not Highway 95 as outlined in the coroner's report.Jeff revisits the crash site and explains things.* * * * *CHECK OUT OUR MANY VIDEOS! Arizonas historic Oatman, named after 1851 massacre victim History Hunters 2025-03-23 | Jeff and Sarah drop into historic Oatman, Arizona to check out the buildings that are left as well as marvel at the burros, the descendants of the ones who served miners and prospectors of over a century ago.Oatman is tucked away in the Black Mountains of Mohave County, Arizona and is a community rich with legend. The town was named for Olive Oatman and her family who were victims of the Oatman Massacre in 1851, and it came to life in the following decades as prospectors discovered gold, ore, and other valuable resources in the land. Did sex symbol Marie McDonald fake her own 1957 Kidnapping? History Hunters 2025-02-09 | Jeff recounts the bizarre Jan. 3, 1957 kidnapping incident involving Hollywood actress and sex symbol Marie McDonald at her Encino home. She turned up the next night on a desolate section of road in the Coachella area.Wearing a bathrobe and slippers McDonald was bruised and bloodied, had two cracked teeth and a black eye. She was shuttled to the hospital where explained the chaotic details to police.Police detectives looking into the incident didn't really believe her story, believing she faked it for publicity purposes to help her flagging career.The chaotic life of Marie McDonald began as Cora Marie Frye in Burgin, Kentucky in 1923. She was born to a former Ziegfeld Follies showgirl and spent her childhood in Kentucky before moving to New York City as a teenager.Her career wasn’t the only thing failing. McDonald’s personal life was a mess.
