I was in college when I first heard this album. I must say the music really touched me in a deep way. This was a time when I realized my life was created with a deeper purpose than just living for me. This journey in Christ has stuck with me in spite of man’s religion which makes up most of today’s American Christian experience. With the rise of the celebrity today, I can only imagine what it was like to be Bob Dylan in 1980! The most famous pop star of his day being put under the scrutiny of the American church and dragged out to be the poster boy for Jesus! That must have been very hard! To this day, I pray and believe that these deep Jesus music songs represent a part of Bob’s faith in God. I’m realizing that I have done about half the Steely Dan catalog in drum covers. Check out my Steel Dan playlist, Aja album playlist, and Katy Lied album playlist! The song's lyrics tell the story of a May 1969 drug bust at Bard College in Dutchess County, New York, referred to in the lyrics by its location, Annandale. The upshot in the song is that the singer vows he is "never going back" to the college until "California tumbles into the sea".The incident happened while both Donald Fagen and Walter Becker were students there, and the song recounts how a female acquaintance betrayed them to "Daddy Gee" (G. Gordon Liddy), then a local assistant district attorney. Contemporary news reports noted that 44 people were arrested, approximately 10% of the school's enrollment. Bryan and I wrote the verses and completed the song in Vancouver a few days later.I thought producer Charlie Midnight did a superb job recording the track for Joe Cocker. I particularly like the backing vocals ... and of course, Joe's lead vocal is exceptional. But most of all, I like Joe's scream before the last chorus:Bryan and I recorded a very concise demo of the song which we sent to Joe and his producer. Wait for the Healing - Amy Grant (CCM Drum Cover Revisited) Earl Bennett - earldrum 2023-06-30 | This revisited song is one of those special song to me. The song got in me the minute I heard it on Amy’s 1988 release Lead Me On. Later that year, we saw her in concert and met the great Greg Marrow as he play it live. Now I believe the drummer on the studio track was Keith Edwards her live drummer before Greg (on the Age to Age tour). My wife interviewed both drummers for Modern Drummer back in the 80s!Anyhow, the song’s lyrics seem more relevant every year to my ears! We need a healing in this world! But the drumming is just outstanding with the drum break down in the middle and amazing pocket with the great musicians on this track.This take of the revisited cover had a certain charm to it being it felt funky and loose. To me it worked, even though I did my best to muddle through that drum break. Anyhow, you will be the judge! I think it’s better than my previous version! I hope you enjoy it!
