My theme this year is about aging well and I'm starting a Visual Journal on this journey with the word of the year which is Act.
How many times have you put something else until it's too late or that it weighs on your mind so much that you almost become paralyzed with life. I have done that quite a lot and this year I don't want to do that. I want to act on it or move on.
To remind me of this, I put it as the first page of my Visual Journal and then thought y'all may be interested in seeing my thought process. Often, you'll see an artist's technique but I know seeing an artist's process is not always available. We live in our head alot. 😊
Please enjoy. Let me know your word of the year below and let me know if you want to see more Visual Journaling.
And as always, please like and share.

These are things that came with aging that I did not expect. Yes there is wisdom but there are some things that come and are solvable. There are answers to those inconveniences or hallmarks of aging and here are my aging well tips.

Last week, I showed you the dashboard for YouCam software - a face filter App for Videos. This week, I am showing you how well the software works with before and after shots of me, without makeup and without filter, without makeup and with filter, with makeup and without filter, and with makeup and with filter.
I found it works well with my webcam while recording video, streaming, and on conference calls.

I've been using this software for several years, as I get older I want to smooth out the wrinkles and erase some age spots and any acne, ok I rarely get acne these days but it does happen. YouCam is not perfect but it does pretty well, including artificial makeup filter to help with the smoothing.
SnapChat is still #1 when it comes to facial filters but this does the trick for my video and video conferencing calls.

Again, taking an After Effects course on Udemy - I feel like I've come a long way in special effects - this was made with two graphics and a video of smoke to create this spooky scene and it only took me an hour to put it all together.
I'm a little bit more than halfway through the course but I expect to make longer pieces after the holidays. I know it's the holidays and scary is not the in right now but it was the assignment. Next year, I'll try to make them more relevant to the time of year.
Enjoy.
I like to draw and paint while traveling. However bringing the supplies can be a challenge because while traveling being a minimalist is the best way to go. Not to mention is so much easier than dragging around the huge art boxes from the old masters days. I found this art haul from a workshop I took with Janet Takahashi. I am traveling overseas next month and believe this will get lots of use.

It is day 4 of Inktober2022 and the prompt is Scallop. I thought of the scallop trims in fashion and then remembered RGB's famous collars and not only was one of her collars scalloped, she wore it to give her dissents (disagreement to the majority ruling)

Prompts that are verbs are always a challenge and I thought of the mouse scurrying but that seems typical and I wanted something different. I watched my dog chase a squirrel as he does most morning and thought - that's scurrying. The biggest challenge to this image was the foreshortening.

Filming my inktober this year. Day one is a gargoyle. I use Pigma Brush pen for the first time - I like it, then Artist Loft Watercolor markers from Michael's. I think it's a Michael's low-cost artist brand - I'm not sure. Either way, it worked well. I first penciled drew it then inked it then put in some color with the watercolor markets and a bit from my travel kit.
I would love to see your gargoyles - I'd love to make a playlist of all the inktober videos so let me know in the comments if you have a gargoyle video you'd like to share.

My kids are new adults and was trying to get their first credit card. In my day, I got a store credit card, bought something from the store, paid it and then had a credit history that I could get my first VISA card. Today, there are no store credit cards, so we did a little research to find ways they could establish a credit history and now we are sharing it with you.
It always astonishes me that banks allow Debit Credit Cards. Not only allow, sometimes that's all they have if you want a bank card. This is a quick overview of the differences between Credit and Debit-Credit cards and why a credit card can keep your money safe.
So much to say here. I have had bouts of depression and over the years, as I further my personal development, I've found things that worked naturally. Many of them have also made me feel like a whole person.

We had several Ash trees infected with the Emerald Ash Boar. The larger trees we had professionally taken down but the small trees we decided to save some money and DIY it with our handy chainsaw which has become in handy over the years. I recommend a chainsaw if you have a property with lots of trees.

This is good for those who are beginners in hand sewing and beginners in hand embroidery.
There are different ways to knot the end of a thread. I have been sewing, quilting, and embroidering for years and I find this is the best and most secure method for hand sewing. I will even clip the excess thread right to the knot and the needlework still stays secure.
My daughter on the other hand likes the quick method of balling it up in the palm of her hand. I personally don't like the randomness and unpredictable nature of this. :0)
