Chris Smart Rare 1955 footage of the Canadian National Exhibition in Toronto. This footage was found at an Antique Market in Pickering Ontario. It is unknown who the camera operator was but other films from the collection show the gentleman and his wife on film multiple times, and there's also footage from their house at 32 Sheppard Avenue East. Chris Smart 2026-07-09 | A collection of still photos I shot of Evangelie @styleheroine after the @area SS23 fashion show during New York Fashion Week @nyfw @fashionweek in September 2022 📷 The entire clip was meticulously edited into a 16mm style sequence using only Photoshop and Adobe Premiere. The intro countdown is from a 16mm film I found then captured while projecting on a wall.

2023 - Universal Studios, Hollywood, California - Super 8 Film - Kodak Ektachrome 100D

Chris Smart 2025-08-07 | In August of 2023, Jodi & I travelled to Hollywood and visited Universal Studios on my birthday. This footage was recorded on Kodak Ektachrome 100D Reversal Film using a Minolta XL401 Super 8 Camera. Scanned & Processed by Niagara Custom Labs in Toronto, Canada.

No editing was made to the sequence. This is how it was shot. I did minimal color/brightness adjustments in Premier due to the original footage being a little over exposed. I used Auto exposure while shooting with the Minolta XL401, I should of shot manual to prevent so much over exposure in the blazing California sun. When viewed on a vintage Super 8 projector the exposure looks absolutely fantastic.

2022 - New York Fashion Week - Super 8 Film - Kodak Vision 3 500T

Chris Smart 2024-03-13 | Back in September of 2022 I went to New York to shoot street style outside the shows during New York Fashion Week, something I've been doing for almost 10 years now. This time I brought a couple vintage 8mm cameras with me.

The following Super 8 footage was almost entirely shot in the rain outside Tommy Hilfiger's SS23 show. I shot this with the expectation it would turn out too dark or completely unusable. Yes it's messy, imperfect, and very random but that's why I love it. Shot on a 1966 Braun Nizo Super 8 camera using Kodak Vision 3 500T Film Stock. Edited in Adobe Premier.

Appearances by Kiwi Lee, Lisa Rinna, Kris Jenner, Kenny Edmonds aka: Baby Face, and Georgia Fowler at the end.

1965 - US Airman, In Flight - Unknown Home Movie - 8mm Kodachrome Film

Chris Smart 2023-10-23 | WARNING. This Film has multiple issues and damage but I felt it was important to digitize it. There are some jarring moments in the running of the film but it's worth watching. I apologize for the jumpy footage in some sections but it is the best I can do with my personal equipment.

I found this film almost a year ago at an antique shop in Las Vegas. These films only have the name Baker printed on a sticker on each canister. In total I picked up three 400ft reels. This particular reel follows a US Airman from 1965, flying all over the world, visiting different Air Force bases. I've tried to time stamp as many locations as I can below.

2023 - Nevada, Utah, Arizona Road trip - Ektachrome 8mm Home Movie

Chris Smart 2023-10-03 | At the end of 2022, Jodi and I took a trip to Las Vegas to recreate a road trip we did back in 2018. This time around I took one of my Super 8 cameras. Unfortunately the weather was completely different and we experienced cloudy days and multiple snowstorms. One snowstorm in Sedona, Arizona almost killed us.

This film is mostly driving footage. It starts off with Jodi at the Nelson Ghost Town in Nevada. We then drive to The Valley of Fire just north of Las Vegas. Next is footage from Monument Valley in Arizona, then Goblin Valley in Utah and finally some clips from Arches National Park in Utah. The final clip shows a snowstorm in Flagstaff Arizona. Shortly after that clip we experienced the most terrifying drive from Flagstaff to Sedona on Route 89A near Oak Creek Vista. We will forever call it the Death Drive. I still get anxiety just thinking about it.

1949 - Toronto & Sudbury - Unknown Home Movie - 16mm Kodachrome Film

Chris Smart 2023-05-02 | I found this film in 2021 at an auction in St. Catherines, Ontario. It was part of a large lot of film including some Kodak yellow boxes with an address pointing to a mining town in Sudbury, Ontario that no longer exists. This recording was the only 16mm reel in the lot, everything else was 8mm.

The opening shot is a view from one of the roofs at the Royal York Hotel. It pans across the facade of Toronto's Union Station and then reveals the view of the waterfront. This is a remarkable view considering the Toronto Harbour Commission Building stands alone near the water. Today this view is filled with condos.

1938 - Flensburg, Germany - Elke Thomsen Smart - Home Movie

Chris Smart 2023-04-19 | This is a film from my personal family archives.

After my Dad passed away in 2020 I found this film in a box under the stairs. My Mom, now 88 years old, told me he was given this film by her father on a trip to Germany in the 1980's. My Grandfather made many 8mm films but unfortunately almost all of them were lost due to a flood in the basement where they were stored for decades. This film is one of 2 that survived. In this short film it shows how my Grandfather was interested in telling stories. My mom remembers how he would direct her and tell her what to do when he was filming. Its a story about a little girl and her dolls and a stressful moment when her teddy bear goes missing on the streets of Flensburg, Germany.

1957 - Colorado - Unknown Home Movie - Kodachrome 8mm film

Chris Smart 2022-01-20 | I don't have much information on this film. Picked it up off eBay over a year ago. This 400ft reel came with a note inside with the dates 1957 - 1958. The only location reference I have from this note is for a place called Miracle Lake. I can only find a place in Wisconsin with that name.

If anyone recognizes the snowy mountain they drive up at the 05:00 minute mark, please comment below. Here is a list of scenes in this film.

On my most recent trip to New York Fashion Week in September 2021, I shot three rolls of 8mm film at 24fps using a 1937 Bell & Howell motion picture camera. I edited it down to this short 3 minute montage of the best footage I recorded and edited to one of my favorite songs from the 80's. This Bell & Howell camera has a 3 lens turret with 2 fixed focus lenses. Chris Smart 2021-12-11 | This film was found in eBay last year. I have no names or address to go with these films and not entirely sure what year in the 60's this was taken.

Chris Smart 2021-12-08 | This 3 minute film was found on a recent roadtrip to Detroit, Michigan. The name and address on the yellow Kodachrome box points to an individual in Pontiac, Michigan. I left an image of the box at the end of this film. I checked the address in Google street view but the house has been demolished. The films development date was 1949. The only other writings on the box was the words "Ice Boat. Good"

Chris Smart 2021-11-04 | Another film from the Jolly Roger Collection. I have no names or address for these films. I found them at an Antique Market north of Toronto last year. This film had a note inside which said 'Rogers Kid Party Twisting & Valentine Party's' There are two parties captured here, all from inside someone's basement. The kids are drinking soda pop and eating pizza.

Chris Smart 2021-11-01 | Footage found at an auction in Michigan. The auction came with dozens of films and notes with references to the Clark Equipment Company a group called the Niles Movie Club. This particular film was found inside a yellow Kodak box dated 1949 with an address in Niles, Michigan.

The name on the box is Roger E. Lorenzen

Chris Smart 2021-06-07 | Maple Leaf Stadium, 1954. Havana vs Toronto. This footage was found in a collection of films from a Thornhill estate. The gentleman who took the footage was known as Mr. Parrott.

Maple Leaf Stadium was located at Bathurst and Lakeshore in Toronto. It opened in 1926 and was demolished in the 1960's. In this short film you get a glimpse of the old Loblaws building. Still standing today after extensive renovations. I slowed down the fist few seconds of the film because it goes by so quickly. You also get a view of the sign showing the teams playing that day. Also seen in this film is the grain silo that stills stands at the foot of Bathurst Street.

Chris Smart 2021-03-26 | This 200 ft movie reel was part of a collection of films I picked up off eBay but was originally found in a thrift store in Seattle. The symbols on the film strip indicate its from around 1943. I have no other information on the individuals in the film or who recorded it. The film starts off with a sailor in front of a post office in California. Some scenes are a little over exposed.

Chris Smart 2021-02-26 | Originally found at a thrift store in Oregon, these sets of films are some of the oldest I have digitized. Not sure all of this footage is from 1943 and there is a car spotted from the late 40's early 50's in one of the films. Most boxes had the developers stamp with the date 1943 but some didn't have a date. There are 7 short films in total combined into this 16min video. The subject matter changes throughout. 1979 - Disney World, The Magic Kingdom, Florida - Super 8 Home Movie

Chris Smart 2021-02-11 | This film was found at an antique market in Pickering Ontario in 2020. Just one week before the market closed permanently.

This footage of Disney World from 1979 brought back my own childhood memories from when my family went there in the 80's. I have very specific memories of just a few rides. One of my favorites was the 20,000 League's Under The Sea. You actually got to take a ride on a small submarine like the one in the movie. There's a short clip of the ride at around 00:41 it's only a few seconds but it was enough for me to burst out loud OMG when I spotted it on the film.

Chris Smart 2020-12-13 | Lost footage found on eBay of a biplane spraying cotton somewhere in California, I believe. The film also includes scenes of farmers picking cotton fields with tractors. The film starts and ends with footage of a puppy. The film canister had a few words taped to the outside which said the following..

Chris Smart 2020-04-15 | 1 of 3 films found. From an unknown family. This films has lots of locations and scenes. It starts off with my favorite scenes of all, views from the passenger seat. It begins with what the individual wrote as Nevada US 40 but I40 doesn't run through Nevada, so I think they meant i80 because there are shots of the giant cowboy sign in Wendover and later they enter Cleveland before getting to New York. They are possibly from Gustine, California and drove across the US to New York then south to the Carolinas then back again along i40. Scene breakdown is below.

Chris Smart 2020-04-03 | This film was found in a collection of films from a completely different family from Riverside California. eBay sellers sometimes mix films together from different estate auctions. Not all Kodachrome boxes have names and addresses on them but this one did and I was able to find out more about this gentleman through a google search.

George Dohner Tice was born on September 21, 1933, in Altoona, Pennsylvania, the child of George Dohner and Etta Geraldine. He lived in San Diego, California, for more than 6 years from 1967 to 1973. He died on June 17, 2015, at the age of 81. He is buried at Ato Reste Burial Park in Altoona, PA. He served as a Warrant Officer in the U.S. Navy. Chris Smart 2020-03-20 | A collection of unedited home movies found on Ebay last month. All originating from a family in Riverside California. Dates from 1959 and 1960. Only one of the yellow Kodachrome Boxes has a name and address on it but the name is hard to read. I will list it below the scene breakdown.
