Le Carnaval des animaux is a suite for instrumental ensemble by Camille Saint-Saëns composed in Austria in early 1886. The work was premiered on March 9, 1886, and performed on April 2, 1886, in private auditions in Paris, by the cellist Charles Lebouc and the singer Pauline Viardot respectively. The first complete public auditions (posthumous) took place on February 25 and 26, 1922 under the direction of Gabriel Pierné.

One wonders how far pianist Cyprien Katsaris' programmatic imagination will go. It must be said that his incredible technique is practically limitless and that the fact of having created his own label, Piano 21, solves all the problems of publishing.

As he does nothing like everyone else, the Franco-Cypriot pianist contributes in his own way to the centenary of the birth of Camille Saint-Saëns with a double album of dazzling transcriptions ranging from Carnival of the Animals (with interjections shouted in four different languages in the Pianists issue!) to the first film score ever written, The Assassination of the Duke of Guise in 1908, thanks to which Saint-Saëns will earn substantial royalties. Katsaris recorded it with the precise timing that could be used for the film's soundtrack, which is also available on DVD.

Between the two, one will be amused, or delighted, by discovering the hallucinating versions for solo piano of the Symphony No. 3 (written, let's remember, for large symphony orchestra, organ and piano four hands...), of the famous Second Piano Concerto in the transcription of Georges Bizet or the Danse macabre due to Liszt, with in both cases some small additions of Cyprien Katsaris himself to be even closer to the original orchestral versions. Half a dozen pieces complete this astonishing double album, which includes numerous and rather rare arrangements by Saint-Saëns himself and others.

Few words on "The Arranger":

In 1994, within the framework of his Sony contract, Cyprien Katsaris went to Hamburg, in the beautiful acoustics of the Friedrich-Ebert Halle, to record several works by J. S. Bach where the strong imprint of Italian music of the end of the 17th and beginning of the 18th centuries, with its flamboyant and virtuoso concertante violins, is revealed. Sony had published a part of the works recorded in 1995, within the recital "Italy in Bach". By gathering today these remaining Sony engravings, previously unreleased, with another part of the session, also unpublished to date, realized in 2000 at the Van Geest studio - and thus completing the "Bach Recital" released on Piano 21 in 2009 (P007) - Cyprien Katsaris offers us a beautiful selection of works he loves by the author of the Brandenburg Concertos, most enjoyable. Cyprien Kastaris MASTER CLASS Program 2020 is about to start soon!!! Time to apply!!

I am so happy to see so many registrations, in order to attend or participate in the online Master Class! It is really great news to be able to pass on my knowledge to other people! Given the current circumstances, I feel very lucky to be able to meet new students, although it is virtual.

The online Master classes will be delivered through the Zoom software. It's a software that allows you to make online conferences with several people.

Master classes will be organized as follows:
Each student, after registration, will obtain an individual time slot, and will present some piano works to work on with me, for 1 hour, until the next student.
Since each Master Class session is 5 hours long, it is obvious that students will have visual access to the full 5 hours, including their time.
Each auditor will also have access during the full five hours session.

As you know it is very important, for a better understanding and learning, to stay connected as long as possible and watch other students.This is always beneficial, because advice or similar cases can be related to you also.

How to proceed with our online Master Class? 🧐🧐🧐🧐🧐🧐🧐

You need a COMPUTER or a TABLET, or a SMARTPHONE, in order to be able to capture the sound and the visual.
Then you need an electronic keyboard, or in the best case a piano!

1) Write us an email introducing yourself, mentioning which pieces you want to play, and on which date and which time slot would you be available, at the following address: cyprienkatsaris2020@gmail.com

2) After receiving a first confirmation e-mail, payment must be made through the PayPal online payment website (or app), to cyprienkatsaris2020@gmail.com

3) After the payment is confirmed, your registration will be valid and you will receive the Zoom internet link, which will allow you to connect with the group of your Master Class session.

It features an original and exciting programme including works from Peru, Paraguay, Brazil, Cuba, Argentina,
Uruguay and Mexico presented by Cyprien himself in French and English from the stage with Chinese interpretation.
Inspired by the need for international reconciliation, especially between peoples in conflict, following his return to Paris, UNESCO Artist for Peace Cyprien Katsaris audio-dubbed an additional ten languages:
Hebrew/Arabic, Greek/Turkish, Spanish/Portuguese/Italian, Russian/German and Japanese: in sum, twelve languages spoken by the pianist himself,
plus Chinese and Korean by two interpreters.

Cyprien Katsaris played his Latin American recital at at the International Piano Festival of Shanghai Conservatory of Music on 2 October 2007.
It features an original and exciting programme including works from Peru, Paraguay, Brazil, Cuba, Argentina,
Uruguay and Mexico presented by Cyprien himself in French and English from the stage with Chinese interpretation.
Inspired by the need for international reconciliation, especially between peoples in conflict, following his return to Paris, UNESCO Artist for Peace Cyprien Katsaris audio-dubbed an additional ten languages:
Hebrew/Arabic, Greek/Turkish, Spanish/Portuguese/Italian, Russian/German and Japanese: in sum, twelve languages spoken by the pianist himself,
plus Chinese and Korean by two interpreters.

Cyprien Katsaris: “On the occasion of the 30th Anniversary of the Hainan Province, a paradisiac tropical island of China not far from Hong Kong, the Chinese President had announced in April 2018 the creation of the First Hainan International Film Festival which took place in the city of Sanya.
My distinguished colleague and friend Lang Lang had been asked to play “Seaside” composed by Dong Lexian, a Concerto based on a traditional local song, during the closing ceremony, on 16 December. Already busy on that day, he had to decline the offer. Three days before my Beijing recital at the Concert Hall of the Forbidden City on 25 November, I was asked to perform this new piece but the score was not yet totally completed... but it finally came to me! However I agreed because I am a big Cinema fan!
I played this Concerto on the new magnificent C. Bechstein Concert Grand Piano.
The whole event was broadcast live worldwide through 3 TV Channels: CCTV 6 (the movies Channel of the China Central Television), the Hainan TV and the Travel Channel.
The Film Festival was attended by nearly 100 actors, actresses and directors from home and abroad, including Jackie Chan as the promotional ambassador, Oscar-winning actor Nicolas Cage and Johnny Depp from the United States, Juliette Binoche and two-time Cannes winner Isabelle Huppert from France and Aamir Khan from India.”
