the kids arent alright ✧ kaveh Red the Mudkip 2024-10-13 | red? uploading at an ungodly hour of the night? shocking. what else is new. anyways hi did you know that this AMV was supposed to be done FOR KAVEH'S BIRTHDAY on JULY NINTH which was OVER THREE MONTHS AGO? I was doing so great. it was like the weekend before his birthday and I was halfway done and I was like hell yeah I got this, I'm getting this done on time. spoiler alert I Did Not Get It Done On Time. kaveh baby boy I'm so sorry.this video was so so painful to make and is probably just as unpleasant to watch lmao. at first I was like "kaveh has hours of footage! I'm sure I can make this work with relative ease!" but I was wrong, actually. because here is the thing about genshin impact cutscenes. either they're the most beautiful prerendered cinematics you've ever seen, or they're an ugly series of half-body shots where the character models stand around and stiffly move their arms. HALF-BODY SHOTS. EVERYTHING IS A HALF-BODY SHOT and it's AGONIZING to edit with. searching for a visually interesting cutscene to utilize is like pulling teeth. and here is the OTHER thing: kaveh has a beautiful story, but a lot of it is only told through text. his depressing home life as a child? his deeply emotional reunion with the only person who could ever really see through him? those are all only in his character stories babeyyy! so I had to get a little bit creative lol. the "footage" of his reunion with Al-Haitham at Lambad's is a manip -- I restarted his hangout quest, brought Haitham in to stand at a distance, recorded the footage of that, and masked them together afterwards. I also enlisted the help of multiple strangers in co-op (literally just hopped into their worlds like "HEYYY do you have a Kaveh and/or a Haitham," thanks to the 2-3 people who participated in that, you were the MVPs). there are many shots in this AMV that were recorded all by myself, and even a scene built in my Serenitea Pot... see if you can spot everything :Dand, of course, I made the sketchbook bits myself, which is why they are such an eyesore hahaha. the entries are taken from Kaveh's second-to-last character story, which is just titled "Old Sketchbook." please please please go read Kaveh's character stories; they're great.I wanted to use as little fanart as possible, but ended up having to do so in order to properly depict kaveh's backstory -- credit to these incredible artists:https://x.com/thijikoy/status/1647233558795149312https://x.com/mlsysy/status/1715760090626900150https://x.com/paladinsoda/status/1714673909297975750/all that said, time to get sappy! this man means the universe to me. I have already talked so much about him to practically anyone who will listen, but like, I cannot ever overstate it. he walked into my life one fateful day in May 2023 and... well, he didn't change the trajectory of my life or anything, but he gave me the strength to recover from a very bad period of my life. I haven't related THIS hard to a character in a very, very long time. his undying passion for art, his debilitating guilt complex, his unmedicated ADHD swag,and his story destroys me. in the face of everything he has been through, he still chooses to be kind. he chooses to give every piece of himself away for others, chooses to stick to his ideals and his sense of justice, even when he knows it's not the smart thing to do, even when he knows he will just hurt himself. perhaps, even, BECAUSE he knows he will hurt himself. see the aforementioned debilitating guilt complex. Kaveh is selfless, but that never ever means he's perfect. as I have stated several times before, he is like if Madoka Kaname somehow survived long enough to become a working adult. I just. really love that the story props him up as an altruist, then goes out of its way to say that *that isn't a good thing,* but it also isn't a bad thing. he just is. that is just how he chooses to live his life, and it's up to you to decide how you feel about that. hooooly hell. the way his worldview is juxtaposed against Al-Haitham's is SO GOOD.speaking of Al-Haitham. their relationship is SO important. I originally wanted to edit this in chronological order, but in trying to match the lyrics, it turned out such that the first verse is an exploration of 3.6 and how Kaveh's backstory leads up to the climax, while the second verse is an exploration of his relationship with Haitham. because. because what if you and your best friend hurt each other so irrevocably that you were outright enemies for years and then he finally extended the olive branch in your hour of need when nobody else would and that SHOULD have been the happy ending but reconciliation is a long and terrible road and you are still sorting out the pain of growing back into your relationship and trying to forgive each other every day. CRAZY/GENIUS — A Completely Normal Alhaitham GMV Red the Mudkip 2024-04-23 | you know, I went on a very long hiatus and almost quit editing entirely. for a while, was devising my big comeback. "the first thing I'll make is an Umineko MMV," I thought. I never got around to that. "or maybe the first thing I'll post is an easy raw edit with Madoka Magica, and I can explain my absence in the description." then I played UTY with my friends and thought "oh hell yeah I'm going to make a Starlo AMV." and so on and so on. never in a million years did I think that my first uploaded AMV in over a year would be, uh, this thing I threw together in 5 hoursthis hasn't yet been documented on my youtube channel (because you know, hiatus), but Literally Anyone Who Knows Me can tell you that I have a serious problem about Al-Haitham. it is very very very very bad. it started in july/august 2022 when he got leaked and I was like "oh hey a character based on the islamic golden age, cool, I am very excited for good representation." ohhhhhhhhh my god I didn't KNOW what kind of obsession would spawn out of this. he is my LEAST FAVORITE character. he is my FAVORITE character. he drives me insane. every word that comes out of his mouth is a reddit comment. he is so kind-hearted and caring. he is literally the most annoying and abrasive man I've ever had the displeasure of listening to. if you locked us in a room together it would end in either cardiac arrest or a murder. HE'S SO HOT AND FOR WHAT? anyways this was a stress relief edit. I am so incredibly At My Limit bc I have finals and am Definitely not gonna finish things on time (lololol say goodbye to getting my degree in December I guess). soooooooo I decided to make the problem worse by dropping everything and making an AMV! I promise I don't hate you, I've simply forgotten how to exist and interact in interpersonal relationshipsanyways happy Albedo Rerun :) I've been meaning to make this vid for a few months now -- when I heard that Albedo's VA had covered this song, I was like "yo I have to make a vid out of it." I love love LOVE Dragonspine, hands-down my favorite region in the game, and I also adore Albedo for his connection to it, so this was the perfect opportunity to show my love for a pretty underrated area of Genshin. But I'm a master procrastinator and put off the whole idea until this week because we just got a new trailer and cool new clips and the first few scenes just clicked in my head.except when I sat down to make the rest of it, I ran into a problem. this is a love song. I do have some Albedo ships that could've worked, but I wanted this to be a character-centric AMV, and a ship would've taken away from that. So, my cheap way of reconciling those two facts: this is no longer a love song, it's a "my dead brother is an evil dragon and I want to spend as much time near his corpse to learn the truth about myself" song.(plus, we have no real shippy cutscenes w/ Albedo, and I was not about to recruit an Albedo main to stand around next to my Traveler or Sucrose while I recorded footage for 2 hours. I really am just lazy and wanted to use cutscenes lmao)Albedo is an interesting character bc he's filled with wonder and curiosity for the outside world, but at the same time there are so many unknowns and mysteries *within* him. Listen, I don't have him (yet), so idk if this is confirmed in his profile stories, but I would like to think that Albedo exploring the world is his way of exploring himself. "Chalk pursues gold," right? He wants to know how Rhinedottir made him and whether he can do that again. And a large part of that, I would imagine, is studying Dragonspine, because that is Durin's ultimate resting place. I'd like to think Dragonspine is where he feels most at peace, because that's where he's closest to the answers to all his unknowns. Closest to Durin, to Rhinedottir, and probably close to Khaenri'ah considering how many Ruin machines there are in Dragonspine. And I really wanted to capture this side of him; the side that's enamored with this desolate snowy mountain and eager to learn more about himself & unlock his potential. It's like a quiet, meditative self-discovery, except through alchemic research that may or may not end up angering God.If you're a Genshin player who hasn't yet delved into the lore, I highly recommend that you do so. It's incredible, and has been holding me over while I wait for the sixth installment of a.......... certain *other* open-world fantasy RPG series that's also rife with lore.anyways it's almost midnight and probably none of this made sense lmao so I'll stop. Goodbye, Apathy ✦ RDR2 Red the Mudkip 2021-09-27 | warning for an obnoxious amount of voiceovers. I'm not sorry. I needed a way to capture the frantic emotional energy of this game's ending and the only way I could figure out how to do that was through a ridiculous amount of overlapping voices.aaanyways. I started working on this vid on March 21st, over half a year ago! and I was just stuck because I didn't know how to keep going with it. I wanted it to be way longer; wanted to include more scenes with Rains Fall and Eagle Flies because honestly they were some of my favorite characters in the game. but it's been too long and I just said screw it & decided to upload this as it is.it's not the best vid. but it means a lot to me. because RDR2 was the perfect prequel to an already fantastic story. my brother and I beat the second game together this March, and... and long story short it hit way closer to home than I thought it would. I have so many thoughts about it that I can't put into words -- about broken friendships and death and making things right and moving on and everything. this is my love letter to the game that anchored me for months.I chose this song, specifically, because the lyrics fit Arthur so well. from the references to not being able to breathe & move (lolololol) to giving everything you have for the sake of someone you love... to slowly learning how to feel peace, shedding the chains of apathy as you begin to see that your choices matter and you need to try to fix things even though it's too late. this whole theme, of Arthur trying to do the right thing despite the fact that it doesn't matter anymore, even though he's already made so many mistakes, although he's a dead man walking ("we're more ghosts than people"), is.... inspirational. to put it lamely. I don't have a better word for it, but it touched me so deeply.and then there's John. trying to fill the shoes of the only positive role model you've had, the man you loved the most, the man who gave his life so you and your wife and child could thrive: it weighs on John. he never says it but it's so apparent. he wants to be the man Arthur knew he could be. but it's so hard to follow the deceased's wishes when that wish is to let go and move on. after beating RDR2 I went straight back to replay RDR1 and the transition is genuinely seamless. Arthur, as a concept, didn't even EXIST at the time the game was made -- and yet he's there, somehow. you feel him with every word John says. it's crazy. kind of magical.(and then there's my... "alternate" reading of the "you're my brother" line. John Marston is a man living in the 1800s with a wife and a child, and he probably has a ton of internalized homophobia. as someone who ALSO is very deep in the closet IRL because I live in a vehemently homophobic environment, I know with a lot of my crushes I've told them they're "like a sibling to me" because I've wanted so badly to confess my love but have been too afraid to say it like it is. and that's what I see in John's parting words to Arthur, personally. I understand most people like to interpret it as literally them being "found brothers," which is really sweet! but that's my take, and it's very important to me, so I just had to put it out there.)even if you haven't played the first Red Dead Redemption game (which you SHOULD), I recommend the second one for sure. it's a prequel so you don't need background info at all. there are sad cowboys. sad gay cowboys. what else could you ever want?special thanks to Lena and Kyle, who taught me how to make my voiceovers actually sound good lol. and of course to my older brother for playing this hell of a game with me. love you guys.

Mogeko Castle was one hell of a game, and honestly, I can't say I would've been able to sit the whole way through if I had been playing by myself. Fortunately, it was a group of us watching Jo play it together so that comforted me a bit. xD I'm very bad with horror/dark comedy. BUT. Yonaka is such a precious girl, and I love Defect Mogeko to bits!! I wish they could've gotten a happy ending together. I think it looks pretty and I needed moving images that weren't super cutesy and also even if Ney is the one who killed Michaela I STILL LIKE THE AESTHETIC OF ALLEN RELUCTANTLY STABBING HIS FIRST LOVE TO DEATH IN A FOREST leave me alone ;w;-for those of you who don't know, yes, the characters look familiar because they're based on Vocaloids -- this is an AMV for a series of Vocaloid songs (which were adapted into light novels & manga)-shoutout to Mitzi for beta'ing the first 10 seconds of this and also listening to me infodump about evichro in the hopes that she'd get into it-shoutout to Jo for putting up with my evichro BS for like, 5 years at this pointwith that aside!! I was really excited to edit this because I haven't edited Evillious since, what, 2017 maybe? and those were really bad MEP parts. it's nice to be able to dedicate a significant amount of effort to interpreting one of my favorite series as a video. this video was actually supposed to focus solely on Clarith and Riliane, but because they have NEXT TO NO CONTENT available on the internet (I have no access to the Act 3 and 4 manga chapters), I had to pad it out with some of the other DoE characters in the first half. which kind of worked out because one of the most interesting things about these two is the fact that their backstories are so similar. they come from completely different places and are of wildly different social statuses. for almost the entire story, they're bitter enemies, even if they've never met each other. but one thing's for certain: they were lonely, miserable people before their respective "special person" came along.in Clarith's case, that "special person" was someone she came to love romantically, while for Riliane, that person was simply her brother -- but either way, Michaela and Allen both served as the reasons for them to smile and go on.but unlike Clarith, Riliane doesn't know what she has until she loses it. the war takes both Allen and Michaela in the end, and their two loved ones are left to cope on their own. it's a really beautiful thing that Riliane found her way to the monastery where Clarith fled to; somehow, they became the best of friends, when unknowingly they had hated each other not long before. if Clarith had known who Riliane really was, there is absolutely NO way she would've treated her as kindly.so when Clarith overhears Riliane in the confessional, she's faced with a dilemma. this lovely, beautiful person she's gotten to know is the stone-hearted genocidal lunatic who laughed as Michaela died. what is she going to do? well, Seth interferes because of course he does, and Clarith ends up deciding she'll stab Riliane that night. but like.when Allen's spirit jumps in front of Riliane to protect her, it's literal sure, but it's also metaphorical to me. as if in that moment, Clarith realized that Riliane had her own special person in Allen. just like Clarith, she was also a lonely little girl who had nothing until someone else came along, and then that very very important person was taken away from her. in a way, the only difference between Clarith and Riliane had been circumstance.and it's that moment of hesitation, when she breaks free of Seth's influence and opts out of killing Riliane, that means everything to me. it's why I ship this. because of the idea that someone could forgive another person, no matter how evil they had once been, all for the fact that that person was a human too. it would be hard to stop ourselves from bringing the knife down if we were in Clarith's situation. the fact that she was able to realize for herself that Riliane had also been through a lot, and genuinely wanted to change; and she was willing to control her own anger for the sake of giving someone a chance to be better: that's the bottom line. Clarith truly becomes the kind of person Michaela was, in that momentwould Clarith have even planned to kill Riliane if Seth hadn't manifested there? I don't know. maybe it's spelled out in the manga, maybe I'll find out when I finally buy and read it for myself. but does it really matter? in the end, regardless of why she found herself on that beach in the first place, Clarith was able to come to terms with the fact that even the Daughter of Evil was a human being too.thanks for watching, and if you've gotten to the bottom here, thanks for reading.

Red the Mudkip 2019-10-28 | when you accidentally become complicit in acts of terrorism because you wanted to impress a girlokay so guys... i really wanted to edit this entire song. but i just. ran out of footage. i swear, as canon as hinanami is, they've only got THREE EPISODES together in the finale anime before hajime pulls the dumbest move of the whole series and becomes izuru. and then the rest of their moments are in the second game, Which Didn't Get An Anime Adaption. also. i would like to say. that almost ALL of the hinanami moments happen at that exact same fountain at sunset. so if you haven't watched the anime it probably looks like i took most of this footage from a single scene, right? nope, it's several scenes scattered across multiple episodes. honestly, editing raw hinanami is SO HARD. next time remind me to use fanart instead.anyways. uh... this was originally just gonna be a hajime amv, but a quarter of the way through i was like "lol all of the fitting scenes are with chiaki" so it turned into a hinanami amv. and god, i could go on for ages about hajime -- my best friends know i've got a really, REALLY complicated relationship with him as a character -- but i'll save that for another day when i can actually form words. for now i don't have anything else to say. it's late and i have class tomorrow. hope you enjoyed the vid. lol good night.

[NO SPOILERS] Young Volcanoes ✦ Fire Emblem: Three Houses Red the Mudkip 2019-08-19 | Something I threw together in around 3 hours, not counting the breaks I took. I've been a huge FE fan for quite some time, and this game... it's unlike any of the others. It's like the tone of Genealogy, the lovable cast of Awakening, the charm of all the GBA games, the GENIUS gameplay of Echoes (previously my favorite title of the series), and a MUCH better version of the MyCastle function from Fates all came together to create the sixth Persona game and I love it.For this AMV I wanted to really focus on and appreciate the students. One of the greatest joys of my life has been teaching the kids of FE3H, nurturing them and helping them flourish. After the timeskip, it gets super dark and there's a lot of suffering -- so I just had to make a video kinda celebrating... the good times, the lighthearted, warm-and-fuzzy side of this game that is just as amazing as the heavy angst. My... theme? for this AMV was "the type of slideshow you'd see at a graduation ceremony, but like, as an AMV". so... yeah. Class of 1185, good work. I'm proud of you.My freshman year of college starts tomorrow. Let's hope my professors are as cool as Byleth.

I really badly needed Hinatsumi content, okay? They make me cry. A lot.Buy the Stars is a great song, and I feel like it fits the Reserve Course students... they try to buy their way into "talent", under the false impression that "talent" is something possessed by only a select few. But no matter how much money they throw at Hope's Peak in the hopes that they can be something, the fact of the matter is that they are inherently worth something - and that'll never change.Too bad that just as Hajime was beginning to realize this, Juzo came and crushed his dreams. I love Juzo but he's really, really, really dumb. Almost as dumb as Hajime himself.
