A hot glue gun and drill were the only power tools needed to make this concrete patio comprised of custom geometric concrete patio pavers. Table that weighs less than 19lbs | DIY Polycarbonate Furniture HomeMadeModern 2022-12-06 | I made a super lightweight table or desk that weighs less than 19lbs. I used 25mm polycarbonate panels that are typically used for greenhouses. I cut and shaped the panels with basic wood working tools like a circular saw and palm router. I poured total boat epoxy into the ends to make the polycarbonate ends solid. I discovered that total boat 2-part epoxy is great for glueing together polycarbonate. In this video I will show how to cut polycarbonate panels, how to sand poly carbonate panels, and how to seal the ends of polycarbonate panels with epoxy. I used total boat thick set fathom to make this modern cafe style table. I used a CNC to cut MDF pieces that I then used to make a silicone mold. This is not really a true DIY project even though I did DIY it myself. The silicone molds are expensive and I plan on making a few hundred tables to get value out of the time and material cost. I drew the designs on illustrator and then exported as DXF files for easel software which is the free tool I use for CNC projects. I actually kind of like how the MDF prototypes look so I think I will turn that into an actual table. if you don't have a CNC you could do a similar style table with a jigsaw. I made a STOOL OUT OF A ROCK HomeMadeModern 2022-07-25 | How to drill holes in rocks is the question I had in mind at the beginning of this project. I want to do more stone furniture projects and I have access to a lot of low cost rocks so I have been experimenting with small rock diy projects like this stone stool. I used my ryobi hammer drill to drill 3/8" diameter holes in a granite stone and then used Quikrete Anchoring epoxy to glue in 3/8" steel rods. Concrete Floor Over Tile | EASY Self Leveling Concrete Floor HomeMadeModern 2022-06-03 | Pouring self leveling concrete over linoleum tile with a DIY concrete dispenser made from a trashcan. In this video I show how to self level a floor using self leveler cement. I resurfaced concrete floors with a skim coat of concrete before but doing it bucket by bucket was difficult and exhausting. The trash can on wheels method was suggested to me by followers on instagram. I used Quikrete Self-Leveling Floor Resurfacer concrete mix and poured a skim coat over the top of the existing linoleum type tiles. Making an Outdoor Chair out of a 2x6 HomeMadeModern 2022-05-31 | I made a DIY outdoor lounge chair out of a 2x6 using just 3 basic power tools. This is a really fast and easy DIY furniture project. I used a western red cedar 2x6 because it holds up against elements but a cheaper softwood could be used it just wouldn’t last as long. A circular saw, drill, and orbital sander are the only essential power tools for this project but I used my Kreg 720 pocket hole jig so that I could hide the screws. I think. of this design as a modern take on a modern take on a Adirondack chair. I cut 2x6 boards to 36" for the seat, 30" for the back, and 18" for the legs before drawing a diagonal line 1.5" in to cut triangular pieces. I made this design up on the spot and these lengths can be adjusted 4-10" in either direction. I stained the cedar with CABOT Solid Color Acrylic Stain and Sealer in Pewter Gray and used a Purdy roller and brush to apply it.This video is sponsored by Kreg and Ryobi! Epoxy Resin and Water Balloons HomeMadeModern 2022-03-09 | I poured epoxy resin over a box of water balloons to make a translucent piece of epoxy furniture. Water balloons covered in epoxy resin seems pretty random but I wanted to experiment with two different things. I wanted to know if the room temperature water would act as a heat sink that would allow me to pour deeper layers of epoxy without it going exothermic. I was also interested in using the forms to reduce the amount of epoxy needed for this side table while creating a nature inspired form factor. I recently went to antelope canyon and was inspired by the water carved sandstone rock formations. Making Furniture out of BROKEN GLASS HomeMadeModern 2022-03-01 | I am making furniture out of broken glass and epoxy resin. Recycling glass into furniture is something I am interested in for 2 reasons. 1. It can serve as an aggregate to reduce the amount of epoxy needed to make translucent pieces. 2. I sometimes break glass for some of my concrete molds and this gives me a way to recycle that waste. A bonus is that the glass acts as sort of a heat sink and I can pour the epoxy resin deeper without fear of it overheating. This table looks like it was made out of translucent concrete and weighs about 45 lbs. I saved all the broken glass I created from other mold making projects and used it as a glass aggregate for casting this piece of epoxy furniture. I made a positive prototype out of MDF that I used to make a negative silicone mold. How to Make a Lightweight Concrete Table HomeMadeModern 2021-11-10 | I made a lightweight concrete table by using self-leveling concrete mix typically used for floor resurfacing to apply a 1/4" coat of concrete over a solid core masonite door. I used mesh FIBA tape and concrete bonding adhesive to create a strong bond between the concrete and the door. The concrete added about 45 lbs to the weight of the table and me and my sister jessie have had no trouble picking up the table and moving it. This is an easy DIY friendly alternative to GFRC concrete mixes and doesn't require trowel skills the way poured in place concrete countertops do. I bought a low cost axe and sword and customized them! Hand made blades by experts will always have greater quality than mass produced cheap ones but not everyone has the budget for one-off craftsmanship. I personally also find that I am more likely to use something as a tool if I don't see it as precious.
