The Peace of Utrecht, 1713 - Funny Joke, Laughs, Hee Hee (Read Description) Vinceinite Jest 2023-06-14 | This is a funny video because before 1713 France was in control of the colony of Nova Scotia, also known as Acadia. The Peace of Utrecht in 1713 ended the War for Spanish Succession, brought about by the decision of Spanish Hapsburgian King Charles II to name the grandson of French King Louis XIV as the heir to the Spanish Empire. A coalition, led by William III of Orange, gathered in opposition to try and prevent a universal monarchy of France on mainland Europe. The French, although the major power of Europe, could not defeat the combined powers of the British, Dutch, Austrians, and a number of other empires; therefore they signed the treaty of Utrecht. One condition of this treaty was the French ceding of the colony of Acadia to the British. Good joke, right?
