I don’t have a 3x3 main, so I used Steven’s V11 for the first 3 solves of the average. He needed it for his round, so then I borrowed Freddie’s FZ v10 for the remaining 2 solves. Thanks guys!

A dream come true, a historic comeback, and by far my greatest cubing accomplishment.
I want to give a special thank you to Steven Wintringham for co-organizing this competition with me. He doesn’t even do BLD events, and put alot of work in to make this competition happen and run smoothly while I was doing my thing. I’m super happy he was the one to first tell me this was WR too, couldn’t be more perfect!

A very interesting and unique set of attempts, all pretty different but strangely got in the same score 4 times in a row. The poor bo3 at Amherst prompted a pretty major change in my review system for DFW. Also, I've finally made some really easy adjustments that were long overdue and should save me roughly 30 seconds moving forward.
3BLD is still not super important to me, I’ve just looked at it as the prerequisite to be a world class MBLDer and that’s really it. The idgaf mindset has clearly unlocked a level of performance with this event that I never thought was possible for me in competition.
Even though this was extremely lucky, I’m really proud to be 13th in the world at this event after all these years. I peaked at WR3 in 2008 with a time of 59.66, so to come within 10 ranks of that 17 years later as a 34 year old feels pretty cool.
The goal of this one was to just get through a 68 attempt to have the largest attempt in WCA history, I've been tied with Graham at 66 for months. Definitely did not expect to also set the record for most cubes solved in the same attempt, which before this was Graham's 62/65. 52.54 seconds per cube is also my fastest pace yet!
I rarely practice 68, I really only do 70 but I felt it was best to ease into it with this first. I traced as fast as I usually would for 70, but I safetied the last reviews of certain areas a bit because I could afford to. Exec started off terribly due to cold hands, but as I warmed up it improved so it ended up being maybe just slightly slower than average.
I'm just gonna keep going up by 2 cubes until I miss 5, once I achieve this with 70 I will have 60 points. This was my main strategy this year, but I'm surprised how perfectly and quickly it has been working out (59/64, 61/66, 63/68 lol). I doubt 70 will take one attempt like 68 did, but I'm looking forward to the challenge.
MBLD results weren't great at this comp (50/60 and 51/64), but I'm just glad to be back on the official grind. Obviously not in full form, I had to take a few months off to focus on other things, but I hope to be back to normal soon and be able to touch 70 cubes officially starting in 2025!
I'm like, really bored by the whole mid60s official grind with a 2-3 DNF window for 60 points, so I've decided that moving forward with 70+ in comp is 100% the way to go for me. Even if it takes some time out of this year to adjust to it, this is what’s coming.
70 attempts feel pretty safe for me at this point. I'm not even going full speed here, the exec was pretty mid, and I didn't even do any short term cubes in this attempt to save time. This is my usual 30 long term cubes along with my new system for 40 midterm, and I'll be slowly adding short term cubes to it as I improve.

Super happy with this! I knew it was possible to get a sub20 mean, but I figured it would end up being a really lucky single accompanied by 2 average solves or something, definitely not a pure sub20 mean like this. Pretty sure this is the first time I’ve gotten multiple sub20s in a round, so this is pretty peak stuff at the moment. Scrambles weren’t even lucky, pretty sure the first 2 solves were 10 algs and clutched an 11 alger on the last one.
It feels absolutely unreal to only be 2 DNFs away from getting WR, and I'm so grateful to have finally gotten to this level in competition. I will definitely be attempting 70+ cubes this year officially, I was already considering it for today if the first attempt went well, but it didn't (46/66 1:00). Been grinding 70 at home and getting pretty accurate sub1 results with it, with a few more weeks of preparation I should feel confident enough with it to try it in competition. Most likely after NAC.
Full attempt video with splits/stats coming soon!
Not PR or anything, but it was an interesting attempt and my best so far officially at 66 cubes. The venue was really hot with no AC and was by far the hottest conditions I've competed in. Sweat was accumulating in my goggles and dripping onto my shirt by the end, it was pretty gross. Considering this, pretty content with the result and confident about my upcoming attempts. Memo was possibly strong enough for PR, not sure if it was weak on the long term stuff or I was just tiring out by the end.
Kinda annoyed that I lost a 50 pointer because I attempted that UFL floating parity alg on the last cube, I simply locked up and got lost lol. It's okay though, I'm sure I'll start piling on the 50 pointers soon. Can't wait to nail 66 so I can move up, I'm still not even close to full speed with these splits.

I really needed this tbh. My official 64 grind was slowly getting worse and worse, with my last attempts being 36/64 and a DNF quit in Ohio. Overall my mental state and confidence were at a really low point going into this comp, my goal for this one was to just show up and get through it lol. This has definitely brought my spirits and enthusiasm back up!
But yeah, glad to see a mid60s attempt finally be a PR! Going to move up to 66 for my next few official attempts to see what I can do, that jump should actually be easier than the one from 60 to 64, they don't feel much different.
Been focused on 4BLD and 5BLD lately but I've kinda had enough of that, it's time to return to MBLD. I've had 5 attempts this year at 64 cubes, all of which haven't been great but have not been 100% terrible. I've found the adjustment from 60 to 64 in comp much easier than 56 to 60, and I'm feeling alot of progress even if the results don't show it. Everything will eventually come together, I want to get at least a 56+ pointer before moving up to the upper 60s. Competition attempts and home attempts essentially feel the same to me at this point, I've got enough experience now. All that's left to do is practice and get better.
I go through phases where my brain literally can't 2pass 10 cubes, but I notice that my larger attempt results are always way better when I'm well practiced at this so I need to keep up with it regularly. I don't really have the energy to grind big attempts as much as I used to, but these keep me well practiced at making good stories and linking them to my loci. Pretty much the only thing this doesn't work is my stamina I guess. The goal is to get the memo down to what I usually do in a real attempt for my first 2 passes of 10, around 2:45-2:50, and still retain everything perfectly. If I can do that then sub5 is definitely possible!
Kinda bummed I missed sub3 but whatever, it's my first mean! I'm definitely faster than this, I average around 2:30 so I definitely wanna get a better single asap, but this will do.
This was done at Westchester Blind Leap 2024 on February 29th, and I was pretty shocked to find out later that this was the first time that a 4BLD podium all had means :O Was pretty cool to be a part of that with Brandon Lin and Evan Liu!

This was an insane fluke! I was trying to go a little less safe today to try and beat my 4:39 PB, but I didn't know something like this was possible for me yet even on the easiest of scrambles. 38 algs, no cycle breaks in wings and the memo was just simply memorable lol. Pretty sure I average around low5 and I usually memo in about 3 minutes, so this is just stupid. Still 3passing, but I usually 2pass + centers because I solve them first. This was unfortunately a miscramble, the 3Fw2 at the end was supposed to be a 3Fw, but I'm still gonna count it :P This solve was also part of a 4:36 mean, which is faster than my previous best single haha.
MBLD at this comp was meh. I did 2 64 attempts, the best one being 55/64. Not great, but not a bad start to the year either. I'll be comfortable with mid60s in comp very soon.

3rd success ever I think, first one recorded. I really struggle with confidently turning a 7x7 blind, pretty much all of my DNFs are from difficulties with the middle and 3rd layer turns, they feel too similar to me when I'm blindfolded. I probably won't go any bigger than this for that reason lol, but this is fun to do once in a while. I definitely plan to get better at this, maybe starting doing some 2-7 relays attempts in the future. It's definitely a nice break from MBLD.
First sub5, previous PB was 5:22 so I was a bit shocked lol
Been practicing 4BLD and 5BLD a bit, but still haven't been taking it too seriously. I'm getting a lot more comfortable with the tracing, but I still have to learn better algs and learn how to turn better. Not sure how far I'll get but I'm enjoying it!
But still, I'm really happy to be past the 50 point barrier! I've had 3 really close 48 pointers in comp leading up to this so I'm extremely relieved to finally be past this mental block. I'm also really happy to have gotten this on my last attempt of the year, it feels amazing to end 2023 on a good note.
To be honest I kinda haven't been pushing myself much with MBLD lately, for the most part I've just been practicing in the 60-62 range and safetying hard with 41-42 minute memo and trying to consistently get 50+ points. Now that I've done it in comp, I feel a lot better about just grinding hard again to get back to mid to upper 60s and being my true self again. No more baby steps, I’m confident that I will be able to try those kind of numbers officially in 2024. The worst is officially over, nothing can stop me now.
Fun fact: I doubled my MBLD PR this year lol, 26 to 52
Attempt 1: 46/46 57:53
This was by far the most uncomfortable attempt, even though I was doing an extra pass of everything and super safetying. The room was quite loud all throughout memo, I think the organizers were just figuring things out during this time because this was the first attempt and it wasn't really that bad at all for the others. But yeah the whole time during exec I was just waiting to forget things because my memo didn't feel strong, but was increasingly more surprised with my recall as the attempt when on. Even with the perfect recall I thought I felt myself make some exec errors along the way, but I guess not lol. Second best N/N result in comp all time, tied with Kamil but faster time.
Attempt 2: 41/56 1:00:00
For this one I remember rushing my long term stuff a bit and wasn't quite relaxed, and I realized halfway through that I was going at like a 60 pace and I had time to chill out. I spent a little extra time on the middle and short term stuff, but by the time I returned to the long term a little too much time had passed and I forgot quite a bit. Pretty awful for 56, that should be a really safe number. Also I think there were guys cleaning out the gutters outside on this attempt and they were pretty loud, you can see them through the window in the back at some point.
Attempt 3: 42/58 59:02
Very similar story to the one above. Can't remember much else about it other than that I was disappointed.
Attempt 4: 50/58 59:34
Definitely was happy that this was an improvement over the last one, but I remember thinking the result was worse than what it felt like. I may have suspected there was a chance at a 54/58 50 pointer, but I guess I made some recall mistakes I wasn't aware of. However, this was the winning result for round 2 and it guaranteed me all 9 attempts so I was pretty pleased.
Attempt 5: 38/60 1:00:02
You'd think I was upset with this attempt, but not at all. The long term felt terrible during memo and was horrible during exec, but this one felt soooo close to being a good attempt if I had maybe spent a little more time on those 30 long term and maybe returned to solve them 30-60 seconds sooner. Everything I forgot felt like it only recently left my brain, so I was actually optimistic for the next 60 attempt.
Attempt 6: 50/60 1:00:00
Made the adjustment from the previous attempt, and the memo was way stronger. This attempt disappointed me a bit because it had the potential to be a 50 pointer, but this was the attempt where I first felt the fatigue and it hit me during exec. I pretty much lacked my thinkahead and wasn't fluid at all, and it cost me a few DNFs and wasn't able to solve the last 2 cubes because of time. Disappointing, but I knew with a little more energy I'd be fine on 60.
Attempt 7: 46/52 59:29
This was the third attempt of the third day and the first of the final round, so I decided to safety because I was tired as hell. I decided to do my safety 5 pass system I usually do for 46 but cram in up to 52, and it worked pretty well. I made 3 really dumb mistakes on the first few cubes and it kinda ruined the attempt because the long term stuff was really accurate.
Attempt 8: 40/60 1:00:02
Pretty similar to the 38/60 honestly. I actually had a huge lunch right before this and it was a terrible idea. Got super tired and just didn't have it for this one.
Attempt 9: 54/60 59:51
Soooo close to 50 points. Pretty much felt just like the 50/60 memo but I had the energy to push through exec. I think I forgot 2 things, messed up 2 algs and maybe recalled or memo'd 2 wrong, something like that. This attempt won the comp, and it was my first accurate 60 attempt in comp ever so I'm really happy with this one!
This comp was a lot of fun, would definitely do this again if I ever had the chance!
This result has been encouraging in many ways:
1. 2 of the 4 DNFs were in the short term 6 cubes at the end of memo. This was strange because I wasn't that nervous by that point and it felt like a perfect 6/6. I have to check the scrambles, but I'm pretty sure I made really dumb memo errors with cycle-breaking. But yeah, considering that 9/10 times those short term cubes will be 6/6, this could've easily been 54/56.
2. I was actually more nervous for this attempt than the 51/54 last week, and I think that's because it was a 1 attempt comp. I have never done well at a 1 attempt comp, I usually only get PRs when I get through a shaky first attempt and get most of my nerves out of the way. Knowing I had only one shot, I definitely felt more pressure than usual and the long term memo didn't feel that strong because of it. So yeah not feeling that great during memo but having almost perfect recall is a huge confidence booster.
3. The execution was incredibly good. I haven't recorded many of my official attempts to check, but I'm pretty sure I haven't gotten sub19 exec per cube yet, so 16.46 is just insane. I would be very happy with this kind of exec at home actually, so it's nice to know I have the potential to go that fast in comp because it will be more necessary later on when I'm doing more cubes.
Hopefully 50 points soon :)

Fortune Days by The Glitch Mob
So yeah I recently made the switch back to a 4-pass MBLDer, meaning I only look at my long-term 30 cubes 4 times now and I go much slower. I used to do this, but since 2022 I've been going at a faster speed so I can add a 5th one. This worked at first for unofficial attempts like my WBs, but I concluded a few months ago that this is the primary reason I have been struggling so much in competition. The stress of tracing that fast under such pressure where accuracy is the main goal just hasn't been working for me. Also I feel like consistently practicing with 5 passes for that long made my memory just absolutely terrible because I began to rely way too much on that fifth pass. The transition back to 4pass has been awkward to get used to, but I'm actually pleasantly surprised just how much better everything is sticking now and I'm enjoying the event a lot more.
I did 5 pass the 46 attempt on the first day, but since it was such a low number for me I could still go at the same leisurely pace. I didn't want to risk getting a discouraging result on the first one, so it was the right decision. But yeah, I definitely didn't expect to get such an accurate result on my first 4-pass attempt in comp since 2019 (at that comp I got 24/25 and 27/28 lol). I did an unnecessary 4th review of the last 4 cubes just because I had time and I was nervous. That and the 50 second exec on the last cube probably cost me WR2, but oh well.
In case anyone is curious, my poor results throughout the year and this style change are the reasons I did not go to Nationals or Worlds. Those would have been my first 2 comps trying this out, and traveling that far to test it out under that much pressure made absolutely no sense. I felt more comfortable taking the time off to practice this some more, and I think it was the best decision I've made in years with this event.
But yeah, the journey is back on. I went pretty slow for this one, so next comp or two I'll probably be doing 56-57, and hopefully 60+ again soon.

Not bad for a 30 year old haha. I never thought I'd get a sub7 avg12 on cam, this came out of nowhere. Just the right amount of luck mixed in with some smooth solving I guess! I even messed up quite a bit haha.
Taking a break from multibld until the end of the year, I have a lot to do lately, but this was a fun break recording some 3x3. I really enjoy the X-Man Tornado V2, it's my new main for speedsolving. I highly recommend it, it's so good that I can't bring it to work because it is too distracting :P. But yeah, only quit on 4 cubes I think, but I paused quite a bit on them so if anything they cost me a bit of time. I was surprised that it was sub1 because I didn't realize how awesome the execution was, this is my first time getting sub18 exec per cube in a really long time, so that's nice. In fact, I was on pace for sub17 exec per cube if the exec for 1-10 wasn't so abysmal, so that's exciting, maybe I can break that barrier eventually.

Almost there! If you look at the splits below for the earlier packs, something happened with me on the third pack and I lost a lot of time, this could have maybe been sub1. Overall I can also improve A LOT on the later packs if I work on my stamina, so that's another cool thing I can easily try to improve on. Anyway, still very happy about this, first time under 1:01, and my best accuracy ever. Many PBs here, including cubes solved sub-hour (63), total time per cube (51.935), and some memo splits.
I have been working my hardest to force improvement on my memo and first review for a 10 pack, I used to average around 3:30, but I am starting to average high2 to low3. Only problem has been that this slows down my later reviews because the information isn't as solid, but I'm slowly adjusting to it and my later reviews are getting back to normal speed as I get used this pace.

Cubes: Weilong WRs, custom magnetized by me
The number 70 has been been extremely intimidating to me for the last year, but it doesn't seem so scary now that I am doing it almost every day and seeing improvement. First attempt was early May with 45/70 in 1:09 haha, so I've come a long way. Hopefully I will sub1 it soon!

Also, I'll fix the camera angle next time lol. I'm using my new Iphone, for some reason the quality is terrible whenever I upload videos and there are random cuts in the video everywhere which is really annoying. If anyone's better with this crap and has an idea how to improve this please let me know in the comments lol.
