This follows the same route as the existing tool-assisted run on tasvideos.org (24:04, by Phil and Baxter), but goes about 4.3x faster overall (5:34) with the speed hacks. (not quite as perfect, though) It almost looks like a fast-forwarded version of that, but still at 60fps ...
PKMNwww411 suggested it on my channel comments last week, so I thought why not and did it within the last 3 days.

Windows XP (RTM), taken from a fresh install (no nLite or anything) to the bare minimum (or lowest I could get) in just a few minutes with a set of batch files. This was done by running it in VMWare and using snapshots, adding commands (deletes, etc.) to the batch file as I figure out what I can delete and what I can't (restoring from the snapshot when Windows doesn't boot), until I couldn't find anything more I could remove.
Obviously don't ever run this on any normal XP system unless you want to break it badly ... and it might only work with XP RTM English.Superfast Mario Bros. 3 in 1:54Acmlm12009-07-29 | SMB3 with speed hacks! The game is beaten in 1:54, about 5.5x faster than normally possible (tool-assisted, of course).
I actually started the hack over a year ago (after finishing SMB1 and SMB2), just finally got around to finish it and do the run yesterday ...

1:06:25.92 - Final boss defeated
1:09:59.38 - Last input before credits (after the 1st ending scene)
1:18:21.45 - Last input before getting "The End" (after the 2nd ending scene)
1:18:39.10 - Saved the game, at "Game cleared" status
The ingame time (after saving) is 1:13:42, it probably doesn't count loading times (but did count the ending ...).
Now, although I did beat the game, that's only the main story. There's still the postgame after this, where enemies quickly grow from "normal" levels/stats to huge numbers (like any other game in the series, if you know Disgaea) ... and the last postgame fight (Pringer X) would require about 100x the stats I finished with.
The postgame itself is short enough (10 more battles) and the leveling shouldn't take that long with more failure dungeon abuse ... just enter a 99 floor level 1000 dungeon (clearing a 99 floor dungeon is required at some point), manipulate level 9999 combo items at the end, and fuse them for hopefully high enough stats for Pringer X. However, doing it back in episode 4 would save some time in the last few episodes (kill the last bosses in one hit, no need to manipulate elementals) ... Also, you get nothing from defeating Pringer X, so it'd just end there.
The whole run would probably have to be redone anyway if I was to submit it to tasvideos, and there's a few possible improvements as well:
- Start with a blank unformatted memory card instead of my old existing saves. It's not included in the movie file, but clearing it seems to completely change the timing and random values at the beginning, so it can't easily be fixed.
- The re-recording PCSX2 itself isn't complete, and some changes might cause desyncs
- Find a better set of attacks to use through the later episodes, preferably some of the same type as the basic attack so all the SP for it wouldn't go to waste (also letting me use special attacks more often). But that could be hard to get, since dungeons already take long enough to manipulate without worrying about which weapon types (and attacks) I'll find in them ...
- If it's possible to find and defeat 20 titlists in random dungeons (not failure) right at the beginning within 5 minutes, I could do the powerleveling in episode 1
- Some of the leveling done wasn't needed, neither was the fusing into characters to get past level 100 (unless I go for Pringer X, of course). I only needed Ash and the bottlemail as alternate characters to use, the dungeonmonk for higher level dungeons, and the titlist for exploding confines, the rest was a waste. Leveling multiple titlists (and higher, with more HP if possible) might help a bit, though ...
- Stat gains on level up weren't manipulated, but they can be (not sure how much more I could get)

I've wanted to see at least one of NIS's SRPG's getting owned in record time for a while already (I've beaten them all now), but Disgaea DS (with the newly available DS re-recording) isn't that great and no one had done PlayStation 2 re-recording yet, so I picked up PCSX2 0.9.6's source, tried doing it myself (partly to see if I could), and got basic re-recording features working after a few days. Then I started this run ...
I picked this game over the more popular Disgaea since it should be the shortest (probably no more than 2 hours, I've beaten the main story in 6½ hours on my second playthrough) and it's considered the hardest in the series.
This first part goes until halfway through episode 3, with all story/dialogue parts fast-forwarded by about 10x to fit more action within the length limit. This actually took a while to do (I started this about 4-5 days ago), mostly at the end when I had to sit through all the questions and unskippable delays for 2-3 minutes over and over again for each change ...

It's not 100% accurate, but I'd say it's close enough ... this was done by recording the trailer, listening to it many times, etc., so a few things had to be guessed.
And yes, the whole graphical part shown here is custom too (except for the ripped Megaman graphics).

This was made possible by merging a lot of iron boots (-100 to most stats) for an item with high negatives, which I used to lower each Baal's HP to 1.
Triple EXP (shop wish) was on, and bats have lower EXP requirements per level, so that boosted the level gain even more.La Pucelle - purify bonus 46516Acmlm12008-05-10 | Setting up a purification chain with 5 miracles in Cave of Trials 3 for a high bonus, the best I've gotten so far.

Ok, so I cheated ... it wasn't the "xyzzy" cheat (which would have been slower anyway), but close enough, here's how I did it:
- Run Minesweeper in a virtual machine (I used VMWare), start a new game
- Save snapshot
- Lose and take a screenshot (outside of the virtual machine) when it shows the mines
- Reload snapshot (to restart the same game)
