Philip LimaSomewhere between Las Angeles and Las Vegas, just a few hundred feet off HWY 15, you'll find what started as Lake Dolores Waterpark. It has also been known as Rock–A–Hoola Waterpark and the Discovery Waterpark and was originally opened in 1962 when it featured many attractions including 8 water slides that ascended from the top of a man made hill.
Here is a bit more history on the original park, courtesy of Wikipedia: he park was originally designed and built by local businessman Bob Byers for use by his extended family. Lake Dolores was named after Byers' wife.
The initial phases of conception, planning and construction took place in the late 1950s and early 1960s. An expanse of arid land on the eastern edge of the Mojave Desert 100 yards (91 m) from Interstate 15 was chosen for the project. The area contains underground springs fed by the Mojave Aquifer. Lake Dolores (the body of water) is a 273-acre (110 ha) man-made lake fed by underground springs.
In May 1962 a basic campground adjacent to the small lake was opened to the public. Enthusiasts of Motocross (off–road motorcycle racing) and people traveling on Interstate 15 between Los Angeles and Las Vegas gave the campground some business.
Over the next 25 years, rides and attractions were added, and the site evolved into a waterpark, which was advertised on television with the slogan "The Fun Spot of The Desert!"
The park saw its peak attendance between the early 1970s and the mid-1980s. After a downturn in popularity in the late 1980s, the park closed.

The portability of the Mavic made this video possible. I spent a week in Mexico with the Mavic and was blown away by it in ever way. Keep an eye out on my channel for a few more videos highlighting other beautiful areas around Puerto Vallarta. Some of them are easy to get to while other required hiking or biking many miles into the jungle. Because of the extreme portability of the mavic, I was able to take a flying camera places I would never of thought about taking my Inspires or even phantoms in the past.DJI Inspire Pro X5 - Olympus 45mm & 25mm ComparisonPhilip Lima2015-12-05 | ...DJI Inspire 1 Pro - X5 M43 Camera - Santa CruzPhilip Lima2015-10-11 | I had the opportunity to fly an Inspire Pro and X5 for a couple days and thought I'd edit a few of the better clips together. This was filmed with both the DJI 15mm lens and the Olympus 12mm over the course of two days. Edited and color corrected in Premiere Pro CC. Thanks for watching and feel free to let me know if you have any questions about the Inspire Pro, X5, or anything else related to the video.DJI X5 vs X3 - Side by Side Comparison - Inspire 1 - UHDPhilip Lima2015-10-03 | Using a pre-production DJI X5 and my DJI X3 camera, Barry Blanchard and I spent some time doing side by side tests between the cameras. The footage has not been altered and is straight off the cameras. The settings(WB/Shutter/ISO) were matched to the best of the cameras abilities for every shot. This was shot using no filters and with the Olympus 12mm lens on the X5. Both cameras were set on default settings.
Please watch through to the end of the video where you'll be able to really see the massive gain in dynamic range when comparing the X3 to the X5. Thank you Barry for the opportunity to put this together!DJI X5 4K UHD - Inspire 1Philip Lima2015-09-26 | I was able to shoot a bit of video with my friend Barry Blanchard and his pre-production DJI X5 gimbal. We did not shoot this for the sake of making a video, we were doing lens test and comparisons, but since the footage turned out so nice I thought I'd post some of it so people can see what the X5 is capable of. Please don't judge the compression of the camera based on this video, Youtube compresses the video well beyond what is done in camera.
This was edited and minor color correction was done in Adobe Premiere CC.
Here are my thoughts on the X5 after spending a couple evenings with it. Overall, I'm extremely excited about the X5, it's an amazing camera and as good or better than my GH4 that I fly on my S1000 rig regularly. Having full manual controls of the camera including aperture from the ground is a serious game changer. The image quality is stunning and a massive step up from the X3 camera. The increased dynamic range is evident the instant an image appears on the tablet. When shooting stills, I didn't feel the need to do AEB as the dynamic range in a single shot from the X5 seemed to have more detail than that of a triple AEB shot combined to an HDR from an X3. The ability to change lenses between the 12mm and 15mm is huge, we tested it out with both and got some amazing results. The difference in focal lengths may not seem like much, but it's definitely noticeable and gives a very different feel from the air. Both lenses are very clean and look great straight out of the camera for both photos and video. The low light capabilities of the camera are also outstanding and worth noting, being able to open then lenses up and push the ISO allows you to shoot quality video in almost no light. The overall stability of the gimbal is rock solid, I was able to capture 3+ second long exposure stills with no motion blur even in 10MPH+ winds. The standard inspire(not a pro) handled the extra weight of the X5 without issue and it flew no differently than it does with the X3, even in fairly heavy winds and being pushed quite hard by me. Thank you Barry for the opportunity to test out the X5!Great White Shark Around The SS Palo Alto - Santa Cruz CaliforniaPhilip Lima2015-06-27 | There have been quite a few sharks in the area so I put up my S1000 to see if I could see any swimming around the Cement Ship, sure enough I spotted a couple and was able to get a good look at one. Unfortunately, the sun was setting so I ran out of light to get any additional footage. Hopefully I'll be lucky enough to capture more of these amazing animals next time.SS Palo Alto - Phantom 3 Professional - 4K UHDPhilip Lima2015-05-04 | Shot entirely with the DJI Phantom 3 Professional in 4K. It is located offshore outside Pillar Point Harbor, just north of the town of Half Moon Bay.
Filmed over two mornings with my DJI Inspire 1. The break is roughly a half mile from the edge of the beach where I shot from. There were 15-30MPH winds out by the surfers, which made flying a bit of a challenge. The Inspire handled the less than idea conditions perfectly though and I can away with some pretty unique footage.DJI Inspire 1 Hand Catch TechniquePhilip Lima2015-01-31 | This is how I hand catch the DJI Inspire 1. Some History on Capitola The original settlement now known as Capitola grew out of what was then called Soquel Landing. Soquel Landing got its name from a wharf located at the mouth of Soquel Creek. This wharf, which dates back to the 1850s, served as an outlet for the produce and lumber grown in the interior. In 1865, Captain John Pope Davenport, a whaleman at Monterey, moved his operations to be near the wharf. Unable to capture any whales, he moved his operations the following year to Point Año Nuevo.
In 1869, Frederick A. Hihn, who owned the property in the vicinity of the wharf, decided to develop it as a seaside resort. At first he leased the area to Samuel A. Hall and the area became known as Camp Capitola. Most authorities believe that it was Hihn who chose the name of Capitola, but they are unsure as to why he did so. Several possibilities have been asserted, one being that it was named for the heroine of The Hidden Hand, a novel by the popular author E.D.E.N. Southworth, favored by Hall's daughter Lulu. Capitola is known as the oldest beach resort on the West Coast.
Capitola is a popular tourist town because of its trendy shops and restaurants on the shore directly connecting to a fishing wharf and its large, sandy beach.FOIL. Airchair from above.
