I found a really interesting open source N64 Expansion Pak project, so I had PCBWay produce a few.
Unfortunately, there's a problem with the project, and it ended up killing two of my N64's...
Let's talk about the project and what's next.

An important factor when reviewing a wireless controller is to test it's latency: the time it takes for a button press to make action happen on the screen. On this stream, let's use the MiSTer lag tester to test the latency of the 8BitDo kit via the 8BitDo Bluetooth adapter, and a BlueRetro Bluetooth adapter. We'll also discuss the results to see if this is a good kit to buy!

Recently I was looking for an inexpensive way to use USB mice and keyboards with my retro computers.
I really needed a way to use a USB mouse and keyboard with a computer that had PS/2 (or XT keyboard style) mouse and keyboard ports.
I ended up finding @TheRasteri 's project known as HIDman. It supports USB mice and keyboards as input. Iit can support combo mouse and keyboard wireless dongles, and even USB game controllers!
It can also convert these inputs to PS/2 or XT style keyboard inputs, or PS/2 or serial mouse inputs!
I've gathered all of the parts to build one, so let's put one together!

If the controller latency is too high, it can be the difference between a seemingly well designed and good feeling controller being given a good review or a ctritical one.
Thankfully, there is a tool for testing input latency that uses a MiSTer FPGA and an Arduino Micro to perform automated tests that can accurately determine the latency of a controller. It can even work for wireless controllers!
Let's figure out how this tool works, and try to test it on a wireless controller!

The RVL-DD can be purchased with an Ashida flex cable that makes installation of the LCD screen MUCH easier and cleaner. The flex cable provides a more stable connection to the trimmed Wii (less tiny wires to install and manage). And there are actually less wires to install, since the RVL-DD doesn't need the VGA lines required by the stock LCD driver board.
Let's see what's involved with installing the RVL-DD into my Ashida!

PCBWay offers plenty of services for retro enthusiasts, including custom PCB manufacturing and assembly, 3D printing, injection molding, and CNC machining!
Tim Worthington's NESRGB mod has been the de-facto standard NES video mod for over 10 years. The NESRGB allows users to get RGB video output out of an NES or Famicom, which traditionally only support RF and composite video.
Recently, Retro Castle (creators of several "clone" consoles with updated features, such as the Lava FC, a Famicom clone with HDMI video output) have developed an "open source" alternative to the NESRGB called Lava RGB.
Lava RGB is not a direct clone of the NESRGB. It uses a different FPGA platform (Lattice VS Altera), and makes use of an RGB amplifier, whereas the NESRGB does not (according to RedHerring).
Because the Gerbers and BOM (bill of materials) for Lava RGB are available online, it is easy to have a PCB manufacturer (like PCBWay!) assemble them for a very affordable price.
However, none of these differences matter if the video output is not at least comparible to the NESRGB. So in this stream, let's test the Lava RGB in a Frontloading NES, compare it to the NESRGB, and discuss it's future!

Well, it’s been a few years since then, and DarthCloud is about to release a BlueRetro adapter specifically for the Original Xbox called BRX! Not only will it let us use a wireless Xbox Series controller with the Original Xbox, but we could also do something crazy like use the PlayStation 5 DualSense controller!
DarthCloud has sent me a BRX with some beta firmware, so let’s check it out!

Laser Bear has designed a flex cable that replaces the original PCBs and ribbon cable of the Slotmaster, reducing the distance between the cart slot and the NES PCB.
Let's hook it up and test it out!

Loopy is one of the most well known 3DS capture mod creators. Their most recent New 3DS XL capture mod looks to be the easiest capture mod to install. Compared to the Optimize kit, there is no instense soldering involved.
Last stream, we started installing the kit, but this week we should be able to finish it up!

I've been holding on to this mod for a while, let's get it installed into this Japanese New 3DS LL!

Someone left me a comment saying that I should check the Tamiya rotary tools. Tamiya NO42 and NO41. Tamiya NO42 is a little "router" or rotary tool, and Tamiya No41 is a little drill.
I should be able to use these tools for cutting plastic while on stream to do mods in the future. The best part is that both of these tools are model kits (like Gunpla), that I can assemble on stream!

Last stream, we finished assembling the XT-CF Lite and floppy drive controller boards for the Micro 8088.
This stream, we'll need to populate the ICs and flash the firmware onto the two EEPROMs. Then we can finally boot (and hopefully install) DOS on this IBM XT clone!

XT-CF Lite Project Page: github.com/skiselev/xt-cf-lite-v4
Soon we'll have a new option: the FlippyBoot! FlippyBoot has a lot of great features on paper:
Solder-free install
Faster loading speed than the SD2SP2
Works alongside the original disk drive
On this stream, we're going to check out an early Beta FlippyDrive unit sent to the channel by TeamOffBroadway. Let's install it, and if we have time, compare it to some other options on the market!
